Guardian Angels #1

Live For You, Die With You

Rate this book
For fans of TJ Klune and Adam Silvera. Live For You, Die With You is an upper-young adult LGBTQ+ urban romantasy about Heaven and Hell lore, a second chance at life, first love, and family.

When Michael Archard accidentally dies on his nineteenth birthday, he soon discovers he doesn't have enough Life Points to make it into Heaven. So he gets sent to Hell until he's up for parole nearly one thousand earthly years later. It’s then a tall(er), sexy, and lavender-eyed angel offers Michael a second chance to relive his last year on Earth before he died. With his guardian angel’s help, Michael is on a time crunch to acquire the Life Points he desperately needs to stay the hell out of Hell.

Gabriel IV has one task: get Michael into Heaven. But he is in over his head since he’s never been a guardian angel before, and his close proximity to Michael is making his Heavenly duties...difficult. Gabriel soon finds himself torn between his job and his fast-developing feelings for his charge. They can't possibly be correlated, right?

Secrets are being kept, but Heaven's laws must be followed. Feelings are running rampant, and Earth time is running out. Can they even truly be together, or will the powers of Heaven keep them apart?

When the end comes, Gabriel will have to choose between his duty as a guardian angel or his soulmate. When the end comes, Michael will have to choose between his destiny, his family, or his own epic love story.

***Content/Trigger Warnings: Car accident on page, death on-page, mentions of death and dying throughout, passive suicidal ideation, mention of slavery, mild homophobia and bullying, mental health confusion, talk of ADHD, on-page anxiety attack, mature sexual content (all on-page sexual content is between two consenting adults, and pop culture references throughout.

Just Grand

Books about Angels are like Vampire books. I read a lot of them and are a weakness I can't resist. This one is about the former and such a unquie take on the genre, but not only that the characters feel real and that you are taking the journey with them. It's an exceptional piece of art that shouldn't be missed and my first five star book of 2024.

Kalob Dàniel's Live For You, Die With You is a heavenly romp that flips the script on your typical angel romance. And all the tropes are there. Magical clouds. Hidden Heavenly powers. An angel who speaks 69 languages. But beneath the fluffy clouds lies a story with more bite than a fallen angel's fangs.

Michael Archard, our protagonist, goes from birthday boy to potential barbecue guest when his low Life Points land him a near-millennium Hell sentence. Thankfully, a loophole grants him a year on Earth to earn his way back into Heaven's good graces. Dàniel masterfully portrays Michael as the quintessential teen–a charmingly immature mess wrestling with the cosmic reality of damnation. Enter Gabriel, a Viking twink turned guardian angel with the social graces of a broken light fixture. Think "light as a feather, stiff as a board" on steroids. Assigned to wrangle Michael, Gabriel fumbles spectacularly, battling forbidden feelings and a ticking clock that screams "one-way trip to Hell."

The story bursts with laugh-out-loud humor and pop culture references sharper than Cupid's arrow. Prepare for tears, too. But fear not! A heavenly whodunit simmers beneath the surface, culminating in a twist you probably should’ve expected but won’t. Live For You, Die With You delivers a happily ever after that's both expected and refreshingly unique. It's a sin to miss this celestial adventure.

Live For You, Die With You made me laugh and cry and feel all of the emotions. I loved getting to know Michael and Gabriel and their friends and family. I especially loved that the book revolved around Heaven and Hell without being about religion. 10/10 recommend!

This was such a beautiful story 💕

I hadn’t read anything about this book before I started reading it, so I went in not knowing what to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised!

I really enjoyed the whole concept of the story, with a second chance to put things right. And I liked the world building of heaven and an introduction to the characters there.

But ultimately this story is a love story between Michael and Gabriel and it’s. So. Bleep. Cute.

Both characters are so well written and it felt like getting to spend time with friends. They were really sweet, both incredibly funny in their own way and vulnerable too. But they brought out the best in each other. They are soulmates, made for each other, and getting to go on the journey with them was wonderful.

The best thing about this book? THERE’S A SEQUEL! Honestly, I am not ready to give up Michael and Gabriel from my life so I can’t wait to read what happens next, especially given how it ended…

Oh gosh, yep, I definitely cried while reading this book. I honestly don't even know how to even start this review or describe what I felt while reading Live For You, Die With You, so I'll do my best.

While reading I felt happy because this family and these characters are perfect I could feel the love and compassion they have for each other, I also felt sad because how could I not when many of these characters are going through so much. I cried because of happy moments where Michael, with the help of Gabriel, had the opportunity to go back and change them. And, I also cried because I would wonder why does it have to be this way after making me live through Michaels' life this final time and making me love this family, I didn't want it to end.

I found this read to be funny as well, and I was not expecting to laugh this much. It made me enjoy this book because Micheal is someone I would so want to spend a day with he's hilarious. And Gabriel, he's a sweet, amazing, and wonderful guardian angel who I'm sure anyone would be extremely grateful to have on their side, I know I definitely would.

Usually, when I read a book, at least one character stands out to me, but with this book, they were all amazing. I loved every single person. I could feel the love they have for each other within the Archard family. Michaels' siblings were the support Michael needed whenever things got too overwhelming. The Archangels' where a great addition to this story as well they added excitement and suspense.

I could go on and on about all the things I loved about this book. However, this review would be extremely long, so I would rather not. Overall, Live For You, Die With You was such an amazing read. I truly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. I highly recommend picking this book up because the feelings it brought out of me were ughh just... it will be one of those reads I will be thinking about for a while.
