Promise Me Forever is a stand-alone billionaire office romance.
How can you promise someone forever?
The simple truth is that you can’t.
At least that’s what I always thought. Until I met Amelia Ryder. It was a chance encounter. We were meant to go our separate ways and never see each other again.
So you can imagine my surprise when the woman I haven’t been able to stop thinking about turns up at my office two days after I sent her home—as my new secretary. And things are about to get a lot more complicated than either of us expected.
She’s occupying my every waking thought. If I’m not thinking about her smile or her scent, or the very unprofessional things I'd like to do to her on my desk, I’m definitely picturing her delicious curves—the ones I know in intimate detail.
But I’m Drake James, cold-hearted workaholic. I don’t do relationships, I don’t do commitment, and I definitely don’t do my secretary.
So why can’t my mind and body get with the program? Because staying away from the woman is pure torture. And as unfair as it is for her, I’m not prepared to give up whatever this thing is between us, no matter how toxic it gets.
Amelia Ryder is mine, and just because I can’t have her doesn’t mean I won’t.
I'm a bestselling author of dark mafia, billionaire, and paranormal romance. I love to read and write about hot, filthy talking alphas that would burn the world down for the women they love.
I love chatting to readers about my books, or books in general, so please get in touch! You can follow me on Facebook and instagram as well as on here as Sadie Kincaid Author.
Generic, cliche and filled with boring stereotypes. There’s not much of a story here and certainly not enough for 400+ pages. Drake was temperamental, arrogant, ran hot-and-cold almost the whole book, he was oddly possessive and jealous to the point of insecurity. Amelia was weak and naive. Her character had potential but fell flat. Drake continuously treated her like shit and he never had to grovel. When he turned her grief into a pity party for his own issues, I was done. Another forced third act breakup that served no purpose other than to reiterate what a douche the MMC was. The stupid ass twist at 89% made me want to rage.
I’m loving this series. Drake and Amelia had some smoking hot chemistry right from the start. I go absolutely feral for the boss/employee trope, throw in his insane jealousy with her dating anyone else and I’m here for it!! I love the whole James family and I can’t wait for the next book.
drake james has the emotional maturity of an ipad kid throwing a tantrum at the prospect of not getting their allotted daily screen time with cocomelon
ok i love me some good ol’ jealous/ possessive OTT moments as much as the next girl. ya know like when the MMC does the whole dramatic ass Oscar winning performance of staking their claim or even the classic “you’re mine” one liners (ok im a simple girl 🥺). drake def has some mad tricks up his sleeve that’s for sure. buttttt around 70 ish % into this book the whole third act conflict and the stupid ass fucking reason behind the break up that followed defeated the purpose of it all like WHY
Promise Me Forever contained all my favorite tropes: billionaire, age gap, boss/employee, one-night stand, praise, banter, the SPICE, dirty talk, grief, and so much more.
This book was perfection—everything I had hoped for and more. 😍🔥💗 Mr. Drake, the sexy, hot boss, wants nothing to do with commitment or love but can't help falling head over heels for Amelia.
Watching the journey of these two as they fell in love was incredible. Their relationship had emotional ups and downs, filled with hot sexual chemistry, spicy moments, uncertainty, and vulnerability. Each challenge brought new discoveries, making their experience a wild and unforgettable ride of growth and love.
3.5 stars⭐️ I fear that this book brought more anger in me than joy, especially in the second half. Office romances are one of my favorite tropes, and it did start well. FMC, Amelia, was a decent character, but MMC Drake ohhh, I swear If I could punch him in the face, I would.🫣 For 37 years old, he acted pretty immature and was toxic, and not in an ok way that you sometimes like in the books. Multiple times he would be a total asshole and disrespectful toward her, even though he apparently loved her, when he had a bad day, he would reflect that on her. I didn't really feel his love toward her, I swear he only thought about having sex with her. I took her back to my penthouse and tucked her up in my bed. For once, neither of us is interested in sex, although I would give her that if she seemed to need it. Right now, though, I’m not sure what she needs. He took her home after they've been in hospital and her mom died btw, how does sex even come to your mind at that moment.💀 And I swear he was thinking about himself and his feelings way too much, for example, her friends came to visit her after her mom's death and he saw that from afar and basically thought omg stupid of me to think that I could help her when she has them, omg maybe she has some other people in her life.🤡 Cherry on top, he multiple times mentioned how his girlfriend left him while he was grieving from his mother's death, and he did the same thing to Amelia, because he thinks he is not good enough for her 👉👈. Yeah why not give a girl more reasons to be sad about. He probably told himself he was being kind. He’s not. He’s being a coward. This whole thing is about cowardice. At least she could see that.🙄 “He told us to never fall in love. Said that if we obeyed that one rule, we’d never know a day’s heartache in our lives.” We all fall silent, the easy laughter lost for a moment. “That was fucked up, man,” Mason says, shaking his head. “Nah.” I down my whisky in one gulp and savor the burn in my throat. “He was one hundred percent right. I shoulda listened to the old man.” this was by the end of the book btw. He has the audacity to say this like she broke his heart, and not the other way around. Amelia was naive and Idk how and why she fell in love with him and why was one kiss from him enough for her to forgive him for being the asshole.
I could rent about him more but I think even this is a lot. Long story short, this man was really playing with my nerves.😀 I felt like this was a type of story where she is like hopelessly in love and a naive teenager and he just liked her attention and to sleep with her.🤡 I would run so fast in the opposite direction if I met a "man" like this that even Usain Bolt would be impressed.💀
✨️boss/assistant ✨️one-night stand ✨️she falls first and harder ✨️dual pov, written in first person ✨️spicy:🌶🌶🌶 ✨️there is 3rd act break-up ✨️the second book in the series, can be read as a standalone
• One night stand • Workplace Romance • Opposites attract • Obsessed MMC • Hurt/Comfort • Newly divorced FMC • Spicy meet cute • Fun with rope
Another wonderful addition to this incredibly raw series. How Sadie Kincaid can give us a MMC with a super grumpy exterior and make us fall so in love with him by the end of each book blows my mind! But once again she does it! 👏👏
Drake was a beautifully broken playboy who kept his distance from everyone who wasn't family. Always down for a good time, but never a long time. Until he meets Amelia, who shakes up his world and has him feeling feelings he never thought he was capable of. Thankfully, it's only for a night, and then they could go their separate ways. Only fate had a much different plan for these two! And what better way to truly shake up Drake's life than to put the temptation right in his path continuously in the one place he thought he was safe. At work.
Unlike Drake's character, I instantly fell in love with Amelia's character. She was so gentle and sweet with a fiery side she kept hidden from the world. She was selflessly caring for her mother after being raised by only her growing up! My heart broke for the battle Amelia faced from the grief she knew was coming when her mother eventually passes. But she was so incredibly strong with how she handled everything she did. Especially Drake's hot and cold personality! Sadie really did such a wonderful job developing her character and who she envisions Drake's HEA with. Because this man needed an Amelia! He needed a woman to come in and shake up his world, proving to him that the heartache that comes with grief is worth it.
The road to the HEA in this book was rough, but so worth it, just like so many of Sadie Kincaid's books are. If you've ever read a Sadie Kincaid book before, you know exactly what I'm talking about. But if you haven't... you need to! Because she's a mastermind!
I'm so excited for the rest of the brothers in this series! Especially Elijah's book, which is up next! I'm so eager to see how Sadie handles his HEA after everything we learned in this book!
Always enjoy Sadie Kincaid's books. Drake was fun, there was some points where his dickhole behavior was almost too much, as there were points where Amelia's willingness to forgive him for it so fast grated on my nerves (maybe I'm just petty lmao), but I'm glad it all worked out in the end!
Definitely excited about Elijah's book next! I swing back and forth between whether I want him to work it out with his wife or if I want him to be with someone new.
This was literally the worst book I have ever read. ZERO STARS. I have so many issues. You sleep with the guy, promising a one night stand, then you work for him for a bit and decide you’re head over heels in love without so much as a date? God this character is why woman are painted as stage 5 clinger nightmares. Mi rosa freaking killed me and I literally gagged every time I read it. Then for literally no reason, she gets abducted!? Sorry? What? “What happened to you was the kick in the ass I needed” oh okay so you needed your girlfriend to be abducted and beaten for you to realise you loved her didn’t want to be without her? Chriiiiist Oop and now the MMC is a vicious almost-murderer out of the blue? Okay.. AND EDITH VERONA IS AS BAD AS FREAKING RENESMEE ARE YOU JOKING ZERO STARS. NEGATIVE 1 MILLION STARS. I can’t believe I wasted 2 days of my life on this. What the actual eff

A delicious slow burn that starts with fake names, a one night stand and a match made in exploding donuts heaven.
Sadie Kincaid wrote an emotional story that was both thought-provoking, humorous and spicy. Five stars isn't enough to express how much I loved this book.
"To all of my readers who have ever fantasized about being railed over a desk, this one’s for you" Thank you for your service 🫡.
Receiving the Promise Me Forever ARC was a great way to start my 2025 reading journey. Thank you Sadie Kincaid and your team for giving me the opportunity to read book 2 in the Manhattan Ruthless series and leave my honest review.
Sadie Kincaid certainly knows how to set the stage, and keep you wanting more. Amelia and Drake's story started with a bang, and kept me invested the entire time. I kept telling myself one more chapter, and before I knew it I was 50% complete and it was tomorrow 🤣.
"God, he is so damn tall. I could climb him like a tree." Yesss girl I do like me a good tree 🤭.
Gosh I missed the James brothers' banter, their scenes had a rolling with laughter. But I also loved how closed they are.
Amelia is a character I connected with on a spiritual level, and I enjoyed reading her story. Plus she's a fellow Virgo, so she automatically was going to be a favorite of mine. I related to her wanting to feel useful, struggling to put herself first and having body image issues, while not necessarily hating her body. Being an only child as well, I saw a lot of myself in Amelia, and was very much invested in the character. Now I hope I also find myself a sexy batman!
Amelia said it best Drake's dirty talk had me "melting like chocolate in the sun". And yet another Sadie MMC that's going on my ever growing book boyfriend list. However Drake easily is towards the top, right there with his brother Nathan.
Chapter 35 🤭🥵😏 Iykyk
Drake's reflection on grief earns Promise Me Forever a spot on my hopeless romantic therapist's dream list. It was spot on and relatable. Grief has no timeline and it's a sneaky beast.
Drake and Amelia are such a great couple. They helped heal the worst in each other, while bringing out the best parts. I laughed and cried throughout this story. And it's a book I know I'll think about for the rest of the year, and look forward to reading over and over again.
The cameos and double epilogues chef's kiss!
I'm patiently (but not very well) awaiting Elijah's book, April seems like a lifetime away 🤧! But plenty of time to mentally prepare myself for what I know is going to make me emotional.
I haven’t read a workplace billionaire romance in a hot minute and throw in some Sadie level spice??? SIGN ME TF UP.
Amelia is on her way to restarting her life. Her ex husband cheated on her, she’s the sole support for her sick mother and she’s starting a new job. At her best friend’s wedding she meets a tall, dark and handsome stranger and for the first time in her life decides to be a little daring. When she starts her job the following week both herself and Drake James are shocked to see each other again. Drake has dealt with a lot of trauma after the loss of his mom and doesn’t think relationships or love are for him. But ever since that night he hasn’t been able to get Amelia out of his mind. Now seeing her every day….the temptation is just too strong.
The banter and tension between these two were absolutely off the charts. Their chemistry was unmatched and I was dyinggggg for them to finally find their way back to one another. Both of these broken people deserved so much love and when they finally were able to put their BS aside and be that for one another it was perfection. While I was ready to throw my kindle a couple times I was also on the edge of my seat and absolutely ROOTING for both Nathan and Amelia. I loved their love.
When you read a Sadie Kincaid book you can always count on two things…excellent spice and heart wrenching characters. This one was no exception. Thank you so much to Sadie + team for the eARC for review 🖤
Drake James ‘ .. attorney at law . Brother 3 of 5 … workaholic…
Daddy Dalton James said “ NEVER FALL IN LOVE “
Amelia … divorced, raised by a single mother who has end stage COPD …
He crashes the wedding where she is the maid of honor … as she is sitting at a table alone , he comes over to talk to her . Fake names are exchanged along with a night of passion … just when they think they will never see each other again , she gets a job as his prestigious law firm and ends up his personal secretary… the tension , the push and pull between the 2 is undeniable… they give in to passion , yet he decides that walking away from her is “for her best interest “ UNTIL a blast from her past causes her trouble and puts her in danger ⚠️ that’s when he finally realizes she is endgame for him and there is NO way he is living another day without her by his side . His filthy mouth 👄 is one of my favorites
An enjoyable read, especially if you’re looking for a dark billionaire romance. I appreciated that the book didn’t rely heavily on explicit content, though when it did appear, it was certainly very explicit. The miscommunication trope is something that always gets me—it can be frustrating, but it did serve to increase the tension and drama in the story.
Overall, it was a great break from my usual fantasy reads. The characters were engaging, and while I wouldn’t say it’s a standout, it definitely served its purpose as a quick, steamy escape.
I don't know how Sadie does it again and again! This book was so emotional and raw.
Drake’s whole character arc? PERFECTION. Watching him go from not giving a damn about anyone to being absolutely all-in for Amelia was everything. Like, the man had me swooning so hard!💖 Amelia’s innocence and her relatable insecurities made her feel so authentic, like someone you’d want to be best friends with.
Now let’s talk about the SPICE. 🔥 It’s Sadie, so you know it’s going to deliver, but this? This was NEXT LEVEL. Let’s just say…I learned a few things, and I am not complaining. 😂
This story absolutely intrigued me, captured my mind from the first page to the last. It was an easy read, well paced with characters I instantly missed as soon as I finished the book. I loved the dynamic and chemistry between Drake and Amelia. And even though Drake has lots of red flags they are also kind of green.
And I finally read a book where they practice Shibari. I only wish they were more scenes with it.
If you are looking for... Billionaire MC Office romance Obsessive/possessive Hero Shibari ... then no further, because Sadie got you covered! Highly recommend!
I am a massive fan of Sadie’ books and each time there is a new one i binge read 😂 I was so excited for the next book in this series and it didn’t disappoint. I loved drake! Another brilliant sexy book from the Queen of spicy romance!
It’s was an okay read, but it didn’t fully pull me in. The boss/employee romance had its moments, and Drake’s jealousy definitely added some drama. 🔥 The James family was a great addition, and I liked their dynamic. 👏🏼 The miscommunication trope, though? 😩 It dragged a bit too much for me. The steamy moments were definitely there 🔥, but overall, it felt more like a quick, enjoyable escape rather than a book I’d come back to. That said, I’m still looking forward to Elijah’s book—hopefully, that one brings more to the table! 🤞🏼
I really did enjoy him and his mouth but I knew immediately how the storyline would go once I got 50%. I was right so for that reason I felt it was a little predictable.
I had 2/3 issues with him and in real life would be red flags but well he was still a good guy and OBBESSED with her.
I’ve really enjoyed this series and LL forward to next brother!
You know, I wasn't planning to rate Promise Me Forever. I read it as a bit of a palate cleanser in between the reams of fantasy I usually read. It goes on forever and I found it tedious, as I tend to find contemporary, but the grammar and syntax are decent and I thought it might just be a me problem.
I'm not sure that's actually true though. Apart from the usual idiocy, some completely left field things happened that felt entirely misplaced. And by things, I mean our very own moustache-twirling villain. And Drake's reaction... wtaf? How bizarre.
Otherwise, this was the usual meet-cute - orgasms - characters ditch their values for more orgasms - forevvverrr. It's unbelievable.
Oh - and being the biggest out of two is really not that impressive.
This one missed the mark - I’m hoping it’s just a coincidence or perhaps the storyline was just not relatable for me. I don’t know. I love Sadie’s other books and I liked Nathan’s but this one, sort, was just a bit of a flop for me. It’s like it lacked something, then the twist towards the end… no build up, came out of nowhere so it fell really disconnected from the little bit of a storyline it had going on.
This had a really high average rating so I thought I’d give it a whirl andddd it really wasn’t great (in my opinion lol). It was like the author tried to add in every trope possible?? And her exes last name was POINDEXTER… that’s gotta be a joke right??
Office romance stories exist on two principles. 1. The built-in conflict stemming from "fear of getting caught". It’s the illicitness. 2. Forced proximity of the parties involved. (they work together, so they have to interact with each other)
So what do you get when you remove the first from this story and demolish the second ? - 418 pages of a drag. => I paused "Promise Me Forever" twice to read something else on my to-read list, I was that bored...
PLOT w/ NOTES
The Beginning... => Amelia is the Maid of Honor in her friend’s wedding. Drake sees her and goes to talk to her. Although strangers, they agree on a game of pretend (to be others) and yet they are kinda pouring their souls, talking about their pasts and wishing to be something different. Both.
She is to be Scarlet, and he, Charlie. Whatevs? Then they agree to have one "selfish" casual night and end up in his penthouse room in the hotel next door from the wedding. It’s a little meh, almost forced, kinda straight-forward. No chemistry other than what we are told as readers that they have.
=> One-night stand. But… can’t cook without fire, man. There was no banter, no chemistry, no build-up to this. More like an agreement and then they have sex. She stays the night. The morning after he’s “cold” but they end up having sex one last time. She then feels sad because she won’t see him again. Drake feels something gnawing at his gut only after Sunday’s dinner when he speaks to his brothers about "Scarlet."
=> Amelia is the new secretary in the Law firm of James & James. She thought she was applying to be a secretary to Nathan James but he informs her that she is to be the secretary of his brother, Drake James.
=> The (much anticipated) meet. Amelia is shocked yet Drake shows no emotional response. They greet like strangers. She gets through the day running on nerves that she will get fired on day one, but they talk afterwards and they agree to act professionally. Everything else happened in the past. She needs the job and he’s not the guy that fucks the secretary (or does relationships, either.) And on it goes...
So all the cliches are in place and then the drag happens.
=> It takes a good 50% -and in a story of 418 pages, that means over 200 pages- where Amelia and Drake have meetings with OTHER characters, sit-down scenes with OTHER characters, endless rehashing with OTHER characters, a useless for the plot corporate retreat trip with the coworkers, Sapphire to make another pop-up appearance (who, again?)
for the plot to realign itself and get back to the REASON FOR THIS BOOK'S EXISTENCE.
=> There's barely a couple of significant scenes between the lead characters in close quarters aka OFFICE, with an impact on their behavior and the development of their romance. The vast majority of OFFICE time, they are professional and stew on the inside.
Also, a lot of the time that was spent at the office, we got it in skip-through dry exposition dumps. Like, three weeks have passed and this and that happened… PATIENCE...
MORE DRAG => Then all professionalism so strictly touted and upheld goes out the window because they can't deal anymore, and... more complications are thrown in. Amelia's mom' health, Drake's dad's health, the ex, the Brady bunch of the rest of James men, Amber to drop hints and hype the next book, and ...a quick kidnapping just so we can call this "dark romance." Spare me. Please.
But nowhere in the plot will you see the fear of getting caught. Not a peep. CRICKETS on that front. 👀👀 Drake and Amelia just didn't want to go public because he didn't want to be the boss sleeping with the secretary and she didn't want to be the secretary sleeping with the boss... Until they did.
Is a workaholic, runs hot or cold depending on the weather of the day, and has raging commitment issues. The way he was written, I could not bring myself to care. That includes the unsolved mom issues and the inability to make decisions for himself. The way the author tried to redeem the non-existent "alpha" in Drake at the end by having him beat up Amelia's kidnappers gave me eyerolls.
Why the shibari???
Drake is mentioned to practice shibari early on in the story. Yet we never see him actually do it, it just comes up in conversation. It made me wonder why would the author choose to give Drake’s character this practice in defining how he manages his stress levels and sexual practices if shibari never shows up in a scene. Like… useless trait to artificially create some allure over Drake.
And here is the crux of it: This is a vanilla environment. If Drake was shown to practice shibari on Other Women, readers would be throwing this on the "unsafe" bucket. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about...
And by the time it took him to have a scene with shibari with Amelia, the story was at 70% and some 280 pages deep. And guess what. It’s not even in action. The scene is from Amelia’s POV all tied up and how she feels the knots and Drake is giving her commentary on how good she looks. Lame.
WHAT I LIKED ... for a change: (and why I added 1 star or this would have ended up on the chopping block)
Amelia => has priorities. At least in the beginning. Given the state of the world we live today in regards to women's' rights in the corporate environment, there was a sensitivity that the whole topic “of sleeping with the boss” was treated with. That I actually respected.
Amelia is not some hormonal bimbo after the boss to slake the mindless lust or further her career. She doesn't rush to rekindle the fire she experienced with Drake on their one-night stand.
She needs the job to help her pick up the pieces of her life and help take care of her sick mom. Amelia doesn’t want to get fired, laid off, or pushed out. She needs the benefits. (Not those benefits!) So she starts with a professional mentality and when she talks it out with Drake, TWICE, they both agree to co-exist and leave that one-night stand in the past. Which is why it takes a good 50% of the story that she's stewing on the inside about him but acts against her instincts.
Unfortunately, that first 50% was filled with all kinds of superfluous scenes with OTHER characters and deviating from the main focus - the connection between the lead characters that work together.
Forced proximity is there for the taking, yet so much potential to develop meaningful interactions between the two went down the drain.
ACT III As for the mandatory predictable separation of the couple at 86%...
Le sigh. This was the most confusing “we need space/ this is moving too fast/ I don’t know if I’m the right person for you” fight. AKA Fight for the sake of fighting to separate them right before the end. Instead of talking things out about what they want, Drake pushes for “let’s take time off” because he's scared and can't decide what he wants for himself. I can spell soap opera, thank you very much.
I don't think this author's writing and formula is for me. Maybe I'll try the "Chicago Ruthless" series, but if the writing is more of the above - I'm out.
What can I say, I'm over this already... 2 ⭐⭐ Cheers!
2025 has been bringing me nothing but hits in the book department. I was able to read the next installment in the Manhattan Ruthless series by Sadie Kincaid and it was so good. This book is following Drake and Amelia, two strangers who happen to meet and use fake names (they know the real names... sorta) and low and behold Amelia's first day at her new job she happens to see she's working for who other than the man she can't stop thinking about. I just love an office romance and this was so just so tension filled. Drake, he tried so hard to be professional, he really did but it went out the window almost immediately in his head. These two were literally moths to a flame and once they were able to be together? Fireworks. This book also deals with loss of a parent, both on page and in the past and was done really well and showed the different kinds of grief and the struggle of trying to help someone going through grief. If you've read the first book in this series, you know it starts with the MMCs dad telling them to never fall in love, I absolutely love seeing it from everyone's perspective and how they take that and let it lead their love lives. I think the next book is Elijah's story and I can't wait to see what he thinks of this and how his story goes because what we've seen of him and his wife I have so many questions! If you've read the Ryan series also by Sadie.. there may or may not be some cameos in this one... who knows, not me. Thank you to sadie kincaid for allowing me to ARC read! Now I'm off to read about some vampires...
3.75⭐️ pretty enjoyable, and some wicked good spice, but not sure if ill read the other books in the series.
the whole thing at the end felt like an unnecessary twist; an afterthought/cheap way to remedy the third act breakup. i get that it was a way for the author to tie in characters/themes from her other series but it just came completely out of left field.
i definitely enjoyed the push & pull between the MC’s, but drake 100% has some stunted emotional intelligence considering he needed one of his clients to tell him what an ass he was being to his secretary/secret lover in order to get his act together. also Amelia fell in love wayyyyy too quickly in my opinion.
despite all of that, i did have a good time and definitely laughed out loud multiple times, especially at: ”His name will be Jacob from the Chicago office if you so much as smile at him again, Amelia.”💀
Take One Night Stand and add Workplace Romance, spice it up with an obsessed main character and Shibari - and you’ll get a hot romance and a bunch of surprises🔥 Drake is a hopeless workaholic and he doesn't believe in love (oh those James brothers). He loves to tie women up and he is a «tongue» pro - in court as a lawyer, causing goosebumps all over women’s body with his dirty talks and between the beautiful woman’s legs. Emilia survived betrayal and a heartbreaking divorce but still believes in love. She tries to build a new life and take care of her mother. These two are from completely different worlds. They accidentally were at the same place and they immediately felt the spark between them. But it’s not so easy for them to admit those feelings . I liked the characters. The story turned out to be less dramatic than the first book in the series. The book series is stunning. I will read the rest of the books in the series 🔥
