Heiress of Roses: Book 2 of the Cartel Elements Series

Rate this book
Lexie

Most cartel women have one be the perfect wife to the most eligible made man available. That’s far from my purpose.

After years of climbing up the ropes and proving my worth to my father’s organization, I was more than trophy wife material. Still, that hasn’t stopped my father from searching for the ideal husband to have by my side.

When Dante Harris, the infamous son of our enemy, approaches my father with an offer he can’t ignore, he receives my unwilling hand in marriage.

I’m not sure whether this is another one of Dante’s schemes or if his intentions are sincere, but I know I’m not walking down the aisle without a fight.

Dante

The Ruiz family has been the bane of my father’s existence since they first swept into town over twenty years ago. They stole his city, his men and, for a point in time, his son. He’s never stopped looking for strategies to take them down for good.

Ten years ago, he regained what he lost, but caused me to lose the people I cared about.

Now, with a new plan for their demise, he’s throwing me back into their den.

Perceived as a traitor and hated by all, I need to put on my best charm. But trust is hard to fix once it’s been broken, and my fiancé has made it clear I’ll need to work hard to earn hers.

I’m up for the challenge, but I want more than Lexie’s trust - I want her heart.

𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒌 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒓 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝑨𝑹𝑪 𝒊𝒏 𝒆𝒙𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂 𝒇𝒂𝒊𝒓 𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘!

I was really excited to read this book following Adrian and Kiara’s story, but as the story went on I realized I wasn’t enjoying it as much as I did the first book and I’ll explain why.

In the first book, you get a glimpse of what is to come with Lexi being a strong-willed, cartel princess who hates Dante’s guts and Dante who is generally a warm guy but has a dark side simmering right under the surface who wants to be stepped on by Lexi. Promise for some kinky fun to me lol.

Now here is where things kind of fell a little short for me. I couldn’t really fall in love with their story like I wanted to because I felt like their moments together were choppy. Every time they were together I would get excited and I would wait for the moment to develop, but then it would cut off and change to another scene. I thought on this for awhile, and I wondered if this was done so the story wasn’t drawn out like the first book, but I think it just made for a story that felt thrown together with no truly memorable scenes between Lexi and Dante.

My next issue was that the story had a hole or two that would have definitely added to the story if it was filled. In the beginning of the book, it seemed like Lexi could have been bisexual when she was on the date with that first guy, but she was making googly eyes with the lady bartender. That was never talked about ever again or expounded on which was annoying because why bring it up. Does she like girls? I guess we will never know.

Lastly, I’m not sure if I liked the way Dante was written. He felt a little too easy. He was just so willing the entire book and it had me wondering where is the glimpse of dark side we got from him in book 1. I was waiting for an explosion of personalities between him and Lexi, and he was a tad bit too passive except in the bedroom, which was also a little generic for me taking in consideration Lexi’s personality and his clear want to be stepped on by her….. Not bad just not as spicy as I wanted.

Either way, it wasn’t what I hoped for after really loving the first book, but I did get enjoyment from it. We still saw Adrian and Kiara, and I’m still excited to see what happens with their oldest sibling. We introduced two new characters Mateo and his side kick (can’t remember her name), and I definitely want to know more about them.

It was okay, the first one is the best one in my opinion.

With this one I was just bored, not that interested in the storyline and not gonna lie I wished Dante was a little more ruthless. It focuses so much on Lexie ruthlessness but not enough on Dante’s.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved how much of a strong character Lexie is and how she took no shit despite being in a male dominated field. She was such a badass and I ate it up, I just wanted Dante to have more badass moments than he did.

Don’t think I’m gonna read the last book in this series.

I absolutely adored this book! Just like the first one there was spice, action, and melanin. All my favorite things. I was so excited to be selected for the ARC and it didn’t disappoint. I don’t know why I love brother’s best friend so much but Dante reinforced it with his talkative and lovable demeanor. This might be one of my favorite black cat golden retriever dynamics. And let me tell you Lexie was quite literally a black cat most of the time. Claws and all. My only critique is how dumb Dante was- I’m not a huge fan of miscommunication drama and I feel like he just needed to speak what was in his mind. He talked about everything else. I don’t understand the secrecy.

Spoiler alert: Do I sense Javi and Brielle next?

Dante and Lexie

2.5 I just want to say that I was looking forward to reading this book because I thought Dante and Lexie was interesting in book 1. I did not really feel their connection in this book and I wish I had that connection to them. I just felt like it was a disconnect between the characters. I felt so bad for Dante because of how trash his father was in the book. I feel like Dante suffered so much physical abuse and I just wanted him to stand up alittle more because he was an easy going person. Overall I really wanted to like the couple but I feel like book 1 had my favorite couple.

This book was okay. For some reason, even with the description I suddenly couldn’t even fathom what Dante looked like. Though, that’s not really important. I think the bulk conflict could’ve easily been avoided. It’s super upsetting to see how things turned out in the end? I liked these characters before this book but they didn’t feel consistent to me in their own story. I liked Lexie and I liked how she handled some things in the end but overall it felt flat. And oddly graphic at other points.

Thanks to the author for the ARC. The second book in this series did not disappoint. Dante and Lexi were so love able and I was rooting for their relationship the whole time. The action scenes were very detailed. I can’t wait to for the next book!

This book had a slow burn ,but a build up towards happiness and answers that was well worth it. This chemistry between the FMC and MMC was scorching hot ...which made this somewhat enemies to lover arraigned marriage narrative so much better. The fact the siblings were all dealing with their own thoughts of the betrayal from book one you really see the character development. I am so looking forward to Javier's book because this is an amazing series.

More than just a pretty face

Lexi was a beauty, brains, and slightly unhinged. Being the daughter of the Ruiz Cartel boss shaped her. She wanted to be more than beautiful trophy on a man’s arm. She wanted to be the boss. Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible for a woman - a fact that she refused to accept. So, she worked twice as hard as her brothers, training her body and her mind. Never underestimate a woman.

Dante was charismatic, charming, smart, handsome, a talker and funny. Under his winning personality was a man who was cunning, calculating, deceptive, manipulative and a killer. He was the son of the Boss of the Harris Klan. He was also the former best friend of one of the Ruiz brothers and Lexie childhood crush.

When duty and circumstances collide, decisions have to be made and sometimes you are the bargaining chip. Lexie finds herself in a position that she cannot refuse, while Dante is seizing the opportunity but has ulterior motives. Reading how all of this came about and played out was very entertaining. I enjoyed the banter between Dante and everyone else. He was such a pest and instigator and his mouth was always running. Lexie was always on go and swinging on somebody. The abuse that the kids of the bosses endured at the hands of their fathers as children and adults was horrible. Dante wore Lexie down, but she made him work for it. She earned everything she got.
This was a great read!

**ARC Review**

Lexie Ruiz Truly is The Baddest One in the Game!

Lexie really is that chick, she told old boy she was the baddest one in the game with her whole chest! She was my favorite character in Heir of Flames and I was so excited when I found out her story would be next. Lexie is the total package, brains, and beauty, with the crazy to put you in your place if need be! Dante is her brother's ex-best friend and her family's sworn rival after he betrayed them. When he approaches them to ally against another cartel trying to move in, her father agrees to the alliance under one condition, Dante and Lexi have to get married. I love a good arranged marriage, enemies-to-lovers trope and HoR did not disappoint! There is so much chemistry between Dante and Lexie and while I usually don't enjoy a slow burn, it made it so much better when they finally gave in to each other. Let's just say the spice was spicing (4/5) and they had me wanting to be their unicorn, LOL! Dante didn't back down from Lexie and you could tell that he enjoyed going toe-to-toe with her just as much as she enjoyed challenging him. It proved to be the best form of foreplay. I am glad that we were given a glimpse into the past for both the Ruiz and Harris families, it added some much-needed context to their stories. I think my least favorite thing about the book was the miscommunication between the characters. I know some enjoy this added drama, but at one point it pissed me off that there was an admitted miscommunication, but then they did it again!! I had to put the book down for a minute to collect myself, but only a minute because I was that invested. Overall, this is probably my favorite book from the series thus far and my second 5-star read of 2024! I am looking forward to Javi's story!

Heiress of Roses, the second book in Asia Monet’s Cartel Elements series finds the Ruiz family trying to fight off some new players in the game--the Bianchis, who have teamed up with their longtime enemy the Harris family to take them down. But Dante Harris, once loyal to the Ruiz family, still feels the pull of the past and wants to make amends. Papa Ruiz is about to give him a golden opportunity--marry Lexi, and tie the families together. But Lexi hates the idea of marriage, and hates Dante even more.

We thought Adrian was unhinged??? Lexi gets busy okay. She will put a bullet in you or slice through you without hesitation, and her husband is not exempt from her wrath. I like the push and pull of them, the chemistry you could see, the way Lexi stood up for herself and the way Dante countered every move she had. It was a ride for sure, but their passion was amazing. He recognized her strengths and let her lead. And Lexi learned to compromise and lean into her feelings. Plus this book fleshed out the family in a better way than the first--made me feel like we were getting a complete story. And as much as I loved Dante with Lexi, his bromance with Javi was the best, lol!

I would like to Thank Ms Asia Monet for this ARC.

When I tell you I was HOOKED! I actually read it twice because what! Not only did it have me from the very first line but to the last. I rated it a 5/5 and it has easily become one of my favorite reads since the year began!

This is book 2 of the series and if you haven't read book 1. I highly recommend it!
Lexie is a Badass and she pulls no punches when it comes to what she has to say or who she has to say it to. You can say she is a bit unhinged and I love that for her and no matter how much she wanted to fight it we all knew Dante was her weakness. I mean isn't he all of our weaknesses at this point? This is an arranged marriage trope that takes you for a ride that you may expect or may not but at the end I was rooting for them anyway. Amazing read!

Now see I almost DNF this book because if the silly little games that Lexi wanted to play but I had to remember that home girl had some standards and morals about who she was as a cartel princess. She was not the one, two, or three to be played with. Dante character was so different from the first book, who was so funny and outgoing and all his little feelings were ever present. He didn’t shield how he felt about any of the people he loved. This was really a great second chance romance and bromance and I loved that for him. Adrian is still that guy but those three boys together was everything. I wonder if we may see a book about Javi that would be so nice(hint hint Mrs. Monet)

3.5 stars! I received an ARC of this book. I follow the author on TikTok was such a fan of her first book. I couldn’t wait to dive into this one. The characters are so well written and while there are a few things this novice writer can work on when it comes to grammar and detail, I think she’ll truly be a force to reckoned with. I did NOT expect Dante’s story to go this way but I’m so happy it did. The author stunned me more in this novel than she did in the first and I just know book 3 is gonna be even better!

Mafia Queen

After a series of unfortunate date setups, Lexie must marry. With Dante's betrayal, Lexi feels as if she's been thrown to the wolves by her father.

I enjoy Dante. He is such a good conundrum of a character. The way he handles his friendship or lack thereof with Javi is friendship goals.

I love Lexie. I love how badass she is. The way she handles business is top tier. She is definitely not a damsel in distress. The way she is willing to go toe to toe with anyone, even Dante, proves she's nothing to play with.

I really enjoyed this book. I haven't read a lot of golden retriever male protagonist books but I love Dante. He's so genuine and funny. I could literally see him in my minds eye. I wish he had been open but guilt and shame makes us do dumb things until we heal. But his heart is always in the right place. Lexie is a lot but damn she's fierce! She's poised, intelligent, and loyal. I did enjoy seeing behind her walls and how she allowed herself to love and be loved. Theirs is a long journey but it's a great one. And the spice? Just how I like it. Hot, descriptive, and in my face. 🌶🌶🌶🌶

Asia Doesn’t Disappoint

I recently read the first book of this series and was captivated by page one. It never really works out that way for the second book ….. BUT THOSE ONE ATE !!!! I loved Lexi and Dante. My favorite trope is arranged marriage and forced proximity so this really hit the spot for me. Lexie is definitely one of my favorite FMC’s. If you don’t do anything else , READ THIS SERIES !!

Cartel Mafia Princess

When we were first introduced to Lexie I didn’t know how to feel about her in book one but in her book she really thrived! She is just as unhinged as her twin and I loved every sec of it. I loved Dante from the beginning, his heart shined through the pages even though he was keeping secrets. He just wanted to be loved but the ties to his father only made it harder!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Similar to book 1, I really enjoyed Dante and Lexie’s story. I’m happy we got a glimpse of the previous couple, it was enough to keep things connected. Especially the unresolved stuff involving their father, but the author maintained the focus of the story on Lexie and Dante.

I really really liked Dante. His charm, the bromance with Javi, and his respect for Lexie.

Overall good story, now on to the one I’m the most curious about Javier.

I loved this book. Forced marriages are hit or miss for me but because of the background between Lexie & Dants, there was a lot of beauty in their relationship. Also seeing the friendship between Dante & Jav and watching that play out made this book even more special

4.5 ⭐️ I love a bad ass FMC and that this book picked up where the last one left off. A lot of times with series that are interconnected they tend to do a lot of flash backs to points from the previous book and I feel like if makes it for a long read. Definitely my fave so far in the Cartel Elements series! 💋🌹❣️
