The old rules don't always apply to adopted dogs, whose training and past behaviors may be a complete mystery. In Joel Silverman's Training Rescued Dogs, the author acknowledges the special needs of these dogs and covers the training methods that really work for rescue dogs that hail from animal shelters, breed rescue programs, and humane societies. JoelOCOs training method includes information ? Where to adopt ? Guidelines for adoption success ? Housebreaking and Problem Solving ? What to expect when you bring your new pup home (and long after) ? Ways to modify undesirable behaviors ? And much more! "
I really relate to Silverman's training style, which is largely based on the assumption that having a dog's affection makes them infinitely easier to work with. He has a really interesting understanding of dogs' learning behaviors, and reading this book has helped me integrate my own rescue into the home smoothly.
