Time is at an end. Jericho is a Paladin, a warrior of the ages given the task of balancing the scales of the universe to keep the very fabrics of time and space from tipping. Chronologically, he’s the first of the super-race.
And it looks like he’s also going to be the last.
Icarus, the cavalier Irish Paladin from the future, has single-handedly derailed Jericho’s Crusade, murdered thousands of people, stolen the life of one of his closest friends, and brought the world to the brink of destruction. The only hope of getting things back on track has been buried throughout history, pitting Jericho and Icarus against one another in a time-traveling race.
Despite the warnings from Sybil, his Partisan, and the all-knowing Cortex, Jericho knows the only way to stop Icarus is to kill him—an impossible task since Paladins aren’t supposed to be able to fatally harm one another. But, if Jericho can’t somehow stop the madman, then existence will collapse around him as the mighty cogs of time finally grind to a halt, buckling under the weight of total annihilation.
This book and the entire Phoenix Cycle series was an incredible read! The story was imaginative and immersive. The author writes in such a way that you find yourself completely invested in each and every character's journey. The story is full of surprise twist that keep you guessing the entire time. I would strongly recommend this book, along with the rest of this series, to anyone who is looking for an engaging time travel/scy fi adventure. I promise you won't be disappointed!
As far as wrap ups go, this went fairly well. Jericho finds out who he really is and where he came from. Icarus is taken care of. There are ties that we never expected. Evonne? Really? I do feel that Sloan’s importance was a little over hyped for the role she actually played. I’m also not sure why the people on the list were needed at all. That was a little confusing.
A fantastic, wild and emotional ride to the end of this beloved series. John's writing is phenomenal, his signature style makes you feel like you are a casual friend also involved in the entire story. Welcome the entire gang back (past present and future) to fight for their lives at the end of time. Welcome to Ice Spider Inn friends. Can't wait for anything else he chooses to write!
What a ride. Not sure what ending I was expecting but that wasn't it. I am just getting my breath back ready to start again to find out what I missed first time round. Thank you a fantastic Series John it got me back into reading and I am relishing it.
An amazing 5 star read and ending of the Phoenix cycle. Well done Mr. Doyle but how you kept track of all the time travelling is beyond me. I got a bit confused at times but it all became clear in the end. I was very happy everyone survived, especially Wolf, and were together in the end.
Not a bad finish to The Phoenix Cycle. Several typographical errors, grammatical errors & missing words here and there throughout. Almost every “Icarus” chapter had mistakes in who was actually the main character. For a self published series, not half bad.
I really enjoyed the first three books, but I had a hard time following this one. This book jumped around much more than the other three, and some of the links between characters felt forced. While I would recommend the series as a whole, this book is by far my least favorite of the bunch.
What a ride!! Had to be switched on to follow the twists & turns in this finale. Loved it though. Would really love more from this author. Please John 🙏🙏
I absolutely loved the first 3 books of the series. I enjoyed End Times as well, but felt that it was too much jumping around and trying to do too much at certain points.
This series barely survived my reading list. This last book in the series seemed the just throw every sci-fi trope at the wall to see what would stick.
This one was definitely an unexpected ending to the series. It had a lot things I didn't expect, but I will miss Jericho and the gang with their adventures. This was such a fun time travel series.
