I was lucky enough to read an ARC of ‘The Corruption Code’, the latest book in the Luke Sackville series by SJ Richards. It’s out soon.
This is another hugely enjoyable book in the Luke Sackville series. Great storylines and interesting plot developments move at a rapid pace, drawing you in and making you want to read on. The team, now well established, are growing, we’re finding more out about them and their personalities are shining through. A tense read, with lots of twists as ever, but still space for some humour to relieve the tension, especially when Josh is involved. As the title suggests, the plot centres around corruption, but involves going undercover to find out what exactly is happening and how does it link to planned terror attacks. Luke and the team are certainly capable of taking on the challenge. Looking forward to the next one!
The Corruption Code, by SJ Richards, is the fourth book in the Luke Sackville series. Opening the first page of these books, is like sitting down with a coffee, to catch up with old friends.
Luke and the Ethics team, are investigating an allegation of workplace sexual harassment at Filchers, when one of the team have a horrendous close call during Friday prayers. An unexpected visit to the office by a neighbouring police force, catapults the team into a very intense and time sensitive situation. With a man down, the team are stretched physically and mentally.
As you would expect from this author, the book is well written and fast paced. The characters are well developed and distinct. The ongoing backstories of the core team are developed further, with tantalising hints of where their futures may take them. The story itself, is gripping and tense, featuring an abhorrent theme, sadly all too common in today’s world. Views which most us, I truly hope, would find morally repugnant.
I enjoy looking out for the homage the author pays, to his fellow authors, it always make me smile when I find it. There were many red herrings liberally scattered through the pages. Making it hard to fathom out ‘whodunnit’.
In summary, as with the previous three books, I thoroughly enjoyed The Corruption Code, and highly recommend this 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read.
Filchers’ Head of Ethics ex-DCI Luke Sackville is back for a fourth adventure, together with his newly formed and very capable team of graduate trainee Josh and much older legal expert Helen plus technical wizard Majid and accountant Sam. Right at the start of the story Maj is a hero, spotting a suicide bomber at his local Mosque and saving the lives of everyone but the bomber, getting injured himself and promptly put on two weeks sick leave. Luke desperately needs a new staff member to cover and soon Lily Newport with her acting skills from the previous story is recruited. Just in time. as Filchers’ CEO Ambrose Filcher has been approached by the Chief Constable of Wessex Police. He believes there is a bad apple in his own Anti-Corruption Unit and that person was in cahoots with the neo-Nazi bomber. Soon Luke, Sam, Josh and Lily are set to join the unit, ostensibly to deal with bullying accusations, but in reality, to discover more about the terrorist cell. The reader also hears about the sinister Master and his terrifying plans in a dark secret society as a new apprentice is initiated. There are dangerous times ahead for the city of Bath. In addition, Sam is dealing with a case of harassment of female staff members, Helen gets the chance to finally see her son again and Luke, doing some consultancy work for his ex-colleague DI Pete Gilmore, meets a very unwelcome name from his past. I am really loving this super and original new series, excellently written, full of action and intrigue, and featuring some very colourful and easy to envisage characters. The whole ethics team are lovely, almost like a family now who really care about each other, but for me Josh is still my favourite, a clever and kind-hearted young man who has found his perfect match in Leanne and who also produces so many humorous moments throughout the story. Luke’s parents are the Duke and Duchess of Dorset and times are getting really hard as his mother’s health declines further but at least he now has his brother Mark to share the burden and a great new character in the form of his niece Marion. All we need now is for Luke and Sam to get together and it would all be, in Josh’s words, Gucci!!
The fourth novel of the Luke Sackville series and whilst it is excellent as a stand alone I recommend you read the first three to understand the character’s backgrounds and they are really very good so why wouldn’t you. This is up there as one of my favourite police procedural style series. Well written and well plotted this is another fast paced and exciting read.
Briefly, Luke and his Ethics Team at Filchers have proved to be very successful at what they do but their latest task is likely to be their most difficult. Undercover, ostensibly looking into claims of bullying in the Wessex force, Luke and the team are tasked with quietly investigating the anti corruption unit as there may be someone in the unit working with a terrorist cell. Meantime Luke has a number of other issues to deal with. Maj has prevented a terrorist bombing in Bath, his wife’s killer is due for early release and his feelings for Sam are deepening.
A team of delightful characters and I really enjoy all of them, including new member Lily Newport, but Josh has a special place in my heart, bless him. I love that as well as the main storyline we are finding out more about the team members, Luke’s Mum’s story resonates. At the risk of repeating myself, please Mr Richards sort out Luke and Sam! Another cracking read.
Today I fed my Luke Sackville thriller addiction by listening to The Corruption Code. Each book in this series has not only provided a unique investigation of some very heinous act, but further developed each member of Luke’s Ethics team to the point I feel like I’ve known each of them for years. The way each person contributes to the investigation and brings a unique strength that the other members are lacking is one of the strong points of this series. As I looked at today’s news, I couldn’t help thinking about the story I had been listening to. The topic of the news was a twin to the story arc in The Corruption Code. In this case it is sad these attitudes and situations exist in real life for everyone involved.
Along with the investigations(s), the personal challenges each of the Ethics team members faced in this story kept me fully involved throughout the story. Of course, Samuel James’ narration aided that involvement. I believe at this point he could leave out any dialogue tag lines and I would immediately identify the character speaking. Samuel has given each of the characters unique voices that perfectly fit their character traits. Additionally, his diction, pacing and vocal variations are the secret sauce that makes the audiobooks immersive in my estimation.
The Corruption Code by S.J. Richards is book 4 in the Luke Sackville series and is set in Bath. There is quite a lot happening in this brilliant outing by Luke, an ex-DCI, and the Ethics Team of Filchers. It starts off innocently enough as Maj, one of the team, and his wife attend the Mosque for the Friday lunchtime prayers with friends. It soon descends into chaos but Maj prevents tragedy. Quite a few cases the Team are called in to investigate are for bullying or sexual harassment. This is what they are supposedly called in for on the Wessex Police Force but in reality it is much more. This series always has great storylines, and this book is no different. We have secret societies which upholds all that is reprehensible, child exploitation and of course the bullying and sexual harassment. There is a lot packed in between the covers of this book, which keep you turning the pages and not wanting to put it down. There are buffoons in both private enterprise and the police and they are portrayed very well. Josh, one of the team, is a good operator. He has a bit of growing up to do and you can see how he has developed over the course of this series. A great story and characters that I have become invested in so far.
The Corruption code is book 4 in the Luke Sackville series and what a great series this is. Ex DCI Luke who now works for the Ethics team at Filchers and is asked to be a consultant for Wessex Police by the Chief Constable. They have been required to investigate a case of harassment and bully by certain officers. Which is really going undercover as some of the officers have been known to have joined a secret society, which is involved with anti-terrorist activities. With the help of his team, which get them into dangerous situations they seek out who the corrupt officers are and bring them to justice. I thank S J Richards for a early copy of The Corruption code. This is another gripping thriller from the author. There is a lot going on in this story. The team investigating a secret society which is involved in Terrorist acts and also involved in Nazism and Racism in the mix. We also learning more about the individual characters as we found out more about teams’ personal lives especially Luke whose mother is suffering from Dementia. This is a great read that I read to the small hours of the morning. I can’t wait for the next one.
This is the fourth book in the Luke Sackville series, and it is another amazing read. S J Richards is such accomplished writer, that it is a real treat to read such a well put together book.
This book focuses on a secret society that are targeting the public, with shocking consequences and Luke and his team are right in the middle of. Not only are they dealing with this, but they have other challenging jobs running alongside. What I love most about this book is how it is so cleverly comes together. Brilliant work.
Watching the team grow is so satisfying and as a reader I feel it really helps to draw you in and make the team feel like you personally know them. S J Richards has excellent character portrayal, and it adds so much depth to his books.
I cannot wait until the next instalment in the series, to find out what surprise SJ Richards has in store for us.
This is yet another page-turner in a fantastic series. There's lots going on here. The team are brought in to investigate harassment and bullying in a police force but are also tasked with investigating a possible involvement by members of that force in some terrorist-related activities.
I read this in just over a day and found it so hard to put down. There's lots of personal stuff for the team to deal with while also having their hands full with both investigations. I like this as it feels quite authentic. For me, Josh really comes to the fore in this one and I like the way his character is developing with each book, yet still managing to be so immature and funny. There's plenty of twists along the way and I enjoyed trying to figure out who was behind everything, only to be wrong! I can't wait for the next book.
I was very lucky to be able to read an early copy of this, the fourth book in the Luke Sackville Crime Series. It can be read as a standalone but this is such a good series that I would highly recommend that you start at the beginning.
Luke & his team are asked to investigate the investigators by the Chief Constable of Wessex police. Alongside this, they are also involved in uncovering who is behind a number of large scale attacks which appear racially motivated.
I love these books as the characters are so well drawn & it is like being with a set of eclectic friends. Some need their heads knocking together & others guidance through an ever changing world, personally & professionally. A great story & I can’t wait to see where the author takes us next. As for two certain members of the team…just say it!
The Corruption Code is the 4th book in the Luke Sackville series. Ex DCI Luke, is Head of Ethics at Filchers, he and his team are asked to investigate corrupt officers in Wessex Police. Uncovering a secret society hell bent on killing thousands of innocent people, Luke and his team have to act quickly to prevent the members of the socitey carrying out pre-planned attacks on the unsuspecting public. Another belter of a book by SJ Richards with twists and turns you don't see coming, and more insight into the personal lives of his team. The series so far has not disappointed and I'm eagerly awaiting book 5. They're definitely worth giving a try, but I would recommend reading them in order as you'll get to know all the characters, as snippets of their personal lives are revealed in each book.
Luke Sackville an ex DCI is head of the ethics team at Filchers. He is asked to help discover if there is corruption in the anti-corruption unit at Bradford-on-Avon police HQ. So going in on the pretext they are helping to sort out bullying complaints his team get to work. They soon find that a secret society is involved and that the problem is far greater than what they imagined, thousands of lives are at risk and members of his team are in danger. Who is ‘The Master’ and how high does the corruption go. Another great book in the Luke Sackville series and one that will not disappoint its readers.
I really enjoyed it and I thought I had worked out who the baddies were but I was wrong
The Corruption Code is the fourth book in the Luke Sackville crime thriller series. Ex-DCI Luke Sackville and his Ethics Team are requested by the Wessex Chief Constable to undertake an internal investigation about workplace bullying wheras in fact , they're actually using it as a cover to find out who the corrupt Police Officers who are planning attacks on the public.
The book is slightly slower paced in my opinion to the previous 3 installments , but still has lots of twists and turns along the wsy - leading up to a gripping end. The series and characters kerp evolving & leaves you looking forward to the next one. #5 in the series is “ Lethal Odds “ , due out August 6th 2024.
Luke Sackville is horrified when he discovers that a long-established secret society is behind the corruption and is planning a series of attacks on the public. He finds himself in a race against time to identify and capture the secret society’s members before innocent people are murdered on an unprecedented scale.
I enjoyed this book but I must admit I found the subject matter uncomfortable reading with so many racist remarks scattered throughout the book. Sadly this is not an uncommon occurrence in today's society. Luke and his team sort out the villains as usual with a tense nail biting finale. I am getting a little tired of the 'will they, wont they?' between Luke and Sam. It has dragged on too long now.
'Wowza' this series just keeps getting better with each new book! Honoured to receive an ARC. Luke Sackville and his Ethics team are faced with new challenges and undercover work to unearth bullies, secret societies and terrorist activities. The interwoven challenges and personal backstories of the team members really brings the book to life. Being the 4th in the series you feel you are really getting to know the team members and their families, bringing a realistic and emotional aspect to the series. Filled with tension that keeps you on edge and needing to know what will unfold. Fantastic book. Can't wait for the next one.
WOW! What a rollercoaster of a ride in the 4th instalment of the Luke Sackville series.
Ex-DCI Luke Sackville is head of the Ethics team at Filchers along with his colleagues Helen, Sam, Maj, Josh and new team member Lily. This new investigation has everyone on their toes. When the Chief Constable of Wessex Police asks for help from the team to look into bullying and harassment, that is only a small piece of the pie!
Everyone is going undercover to try and figure out who has been a part of a terrorist organisation within the police force.
Thr team discovers a secret organisation that dates back to the Nazi's rule. But who's lives are in danger and can the team survive everything that is thrown at them?
What a great story full of twists and turns (expect this now with this writer but this was a great one). This book got me engrossed from the beginning, dark subject matter but was so interesting and handled well. Loved how the story all came together with a nail biting finale. The team get involved in so many interesting and scary scenarios and I love the way the team develops and grows. Love the inclusion of Lily, I hope she stays. The background of Luke’s family is great and feel so invested in him and his team. Just love SJ Richard’s writing and so happy to be an ARC reader for him. Five stars as these books are getting better and better.
Amazing narration from Samuel James, who brings out the angst and action.
Luke and the newly formed Ethics team, are investigating an allegation of workplace sexual harassment at Filchers, when Maj one of the team spot a suicide bomber at his local Mosque. Stopping the bomber and getting hurt in the process. Luke now finds himself needing new member. With a man down, the team are stretched. Lily with her acting skills from the previous story is recruited. The Chief Constable of Wessex Police, believes there is a bad apple in his Anti-Corruption Unit. Worse yet the person is in bed with the neo-Nazi bomber. Excellent thriller.
Book 4 in the Luke Sackville series and the best yet! The author just keeps improving with his well written stories and great character development, especially young Josh. There is so much action in this latest, fast paced episode and I read into the wee small hours as I was so invested in the tale of bullying, corruption, racism and terrorism. I highly recommend this series to lovers of thrillers, one of the best in the genre. My thanks to the author for my ARC, as always, it is very much appreciated.
This is the fourth book in the Luke Sackville crime thriller series. Ex-DCI Luke Sackville and his Ethics Team are asked by the Wessex Chief Constable to undertake an internal investigation about bullying but in reality to use it as a cover to find the corrupt officers who are planning and undertaking attacks on the public. The book is fast paced with lots of twists and turns and gripping to the end, so much so I read it in a day. The series just gets better and better and I’m looking forward to the next one, Lethal Odds.
I’ve read and loved all of the Luke Sackville series but feel that The Corruption Code is the best yet. The terrorist threat gave an atmosphere of tension and menace throughout and the discovery of who was behind it all was a complete surprise. I really enjoyed finding out more about the team and watching their developing relationships, and, as always in this series, the humour provides a welcome balance to the threat. Definitely another 5 star for me and I can’t wait for the next book to come out.
Luke and his team at Filchers are hired to go undercover in the Wessex Police. Under the pretense of looking into sexual harassment and bullying cases, they're on the hunt for bad apples among the officers. This, in turn, ends up leading to a much larger, much more sinister secret society with terroristic intents. This book is a fast-paced ride with plenty of twists, turns and red herrings along the way. I look forward to the next story.
I'm a member of the ARC team and have left an honest review voluntarily.
This series is so engaging & I just love this series.
The Corruption Code detailed the adventures of the Filtchers' Ethics Team as they once again get tangled up in something more serious than your average workplace bullying investigation.
This book was complex and well written. Deeply expressive and thoughtful in its exploration of racism, criminal intentions, & outside-the-box plot building.
These characters have a special place in my mind.
I'd be pleased to read the next installment, Lethal Odds, when it comes out.
The author has done it again! Another great book in the Luke Sackville series. I really do love coming across a series that I enjoy and when the next book comes out it is like going back to the familiar.
There were twists and turns along the way to keep you on your toes which I’d be disappointed if the author left out.
I listened to the audio for this one and it was so easy to listen to (although the content was tricky - racism - so do check the trigger warnings). The narrator was great and I could not put it down - so much so I had to finish it at work (shh!).
This series is really shaping up - just think Line Of Duty meets Trigger Point and you’ve got this pretty much bang on!
The joy of reading these novels in order allows the reader to really enjoy the development of this close knit group of characters.
This latest outing for Luke Sackville and his team again leaves you second guessing till the very end and with a teaser of a title for a 5th book - I’m glad that there’s plenty more to come!
The fourth book in the series and I hope not the last. The development of these characters is excellent by the way, and we are really getting to know the team now and they are discovering how well they work together too. This time it’s looking into accusations of bullying in the workplace and secret societies with many twists and turns before we find out what’s what and who’s who!! A thoroughly good read.
Another great adventure with Luke, Sam, Josh, Maj, Helen and now Lily. I love the diversity in this series, being an Ethics Department there are so many ways the investigations can go. The story and characters keep you turning those pages in anticipation of what’s going to happen and you’re definitely kept guessing as to who the bad guys or gals are. I highly recommend this series and look forward to the next one.
This is a series which just gets better and better. Great characters within the team, each with a special quality to add to the story. The author is not afraid to highlight issues within our society - in this case, racism and migrants - however they are well written into the book and give credence to it. A highly recommended book along with the others in this series.
Book 4 in the Luke Sackville series. This is a quite topical read to what is going on in the real world. The team investigate accusations of bullying within the police force where they are working with the Anti Corruption Unit. Bullying and racism rear their ugly heads in this investigation. Nerve wracking events . My favourite character alongdide Luke, has to be Josh. His expressions and sayings are hilarious
Oh Wow. What a blast. Luke and the team do it again. Joined by a new member Lily. From bullying to terrorism and a race against time. Fast paced and well written. Couldn't put it down and read in one sitting. Josh didn't disappoint and kept me guessing until the end. S J Richards writes so well and each book just keeps on improving.
