In this, the fourth book of the Huguenot Chronicles series. we find Jacob and Jeanne Delpech and their kids emigrating to colonial America in search of freedom of religion after foreseeing troubles in their adoptive country Ireland. This story of family principles is intertwined with the history of America in the 17th century, zeroing in the Colony of New York and the Leisler rebellion against the British. I must confess that even though I knew some the history of the Huguenots in the New World, I knew almost none of the early history of Colonial New York, or the French-Anglo fighting especially in Upstate New York, this book filled that lack of knowledge. The extensive historical research of the author combined with his detailed writing has made this book one really hard to put down once you start reading, it will grab your attention from beginning to end and make you crave for the next book in the series.
I have read this book and giving my honest review. Wow what a book. Great adventure, lots going on. You cannot believe the hardships these families had to endure. Could not put this down, as I wanted to know what happened. I am not spoiling you will have to read the book yourself. I hope you enjoy as much as I did.
New Challenges! An easy to read, interesting story about an immigrant family and the early history of New York. The book comes to life through wonderful, unforgettable characters and detailed descriptions in this unpredictable adventure. True friendship and the Call of Freedom are the backbone of this whole series.
I have really enjoyed all four of these books and I must say it has taught me a lot about Huguenots and how they suffered, I really had no idea. I was also fascinated with the American history woven into the story. These books have been so well researched and I hope there will be more of them, the potential is there for more great stories.
This continuation of the Huguenot Chronicles did not disappoint. It tells the story of three families who reunite after 10 years in the late 1600’s seeking religious freedom and fortune in New England. The ending sets the stage for new adventures and future generations. If you like historical fiction this series should be on your “want to read”list.
The fourth book in this series brings the main families together to start a new life in New York, where they trust they can freely worship God in their own manner. Rich in historical detail and insight into prevalent thinking, it engages the reader in the lives and thoughts of the characters.
Really enjoyed reading this novel about the Huguenot families escaping religious persecution in France. I hope there will be a 5th book coming out in the near future.
What an awesome book. Loved the characters and everything that happens. Full of action, so well written that you feel as if you’re there. Need more books.
