[Last time in Multiverse Z!] A Shade Dragon Rogue saves a desert city and races to defeat an entire dungeon.
Overpowered adventurer versus overpowered dungeon.
The first dungeon pocket world discovered in 2000 years is perfect for Joey's great profile to level up faster. Bounty hunters and millions of dungeon network viewers follow and react as he solos the entire dungeon.
The bounty on his head rises to historic amounts for a beginner area. This draws major attention in a vast Multiverse System integrating whole universes and initiating countless humans to its game-like realms of limitless magic.
That's fine with Joey. He’s busy maxing out powers for skill upgrade attachments. He’s testing his shadow, necromancy, and dragon magic against monsters and bosses while hauling cargo boxes filled with loot to the finish line. And he’s developing something new with his intense meditation.
A cultivation core.
Joey unlocks the multiverse secrets for a second magic system that works with his great system profile. And Joey’s not figuring it out alone.
He has a mysterious mentor named Michael Zhou who's eager to help him. Friendly guy, too. Loves to cook, teach nerdy magic science, and stop time with a snap of his fingers.
Follow Joey as he improves his shady dragon powers, upgrades his skills, and cultivates a power that can push him further up the path of greatness. The power over fate.
This is where the Rogue Ascension series mixes up inspirations from He Who Fights With Monsters, Dungeon Crawler Carl, and Primal Hunter. Read now to enjoy this Apocalypse Isekai with a strong Progression LitRPG System.
This is third in an isekai LitRPG series. Read in order.
This one takes place almost entirely in the desert dungeon. As such, it's a bit more isolated than the previous, with few characters to build relationships outside of Joey's special brand of crazy. Not that he doesn't attach to some of the denizens and I'm glad he never treats the people there as not real; even though they kind of aren't.
I didn't like the dungeon much. It was a bit manufactured. I mean, with in-world support because it's a dungeon. And thus manufactured. So this is partially the author accurately portraying their world. Which is fine, I suppose. But it just wasn't as fun, somehow.
Which is weird because this book has Joey start leaning into the rogue side of his nature. I really liked him using guerilla tactics to take on an army commander by eliminating his command structure to draw him out. And the full-on rogue mission to take on the cleric target was even better. So I liked that he's expanding into different forms of power fantasy by being all sneaky when that leads to a better conclusion. It was interesting to see how the author kept the pace up despite avoiding some outright conflicts.
I'm at a draw for meeting a couple primorials. Those are the guys behind the whole Multiverse Z and everyone is afraid of them. Except Joey who gets to know two in this story because they can interfere directly in the alternate dimension of the dungeon (it's implied that they'd break the low-level realm Joey normally resides in if they showed up there). This was interesting lore and setup an opportunity to make Joey even more overpowered—not in a bad way, in my book. Those interactions came up a wash for me because while I liked Mike a lot as the uber-curious meddler, Fuzzy is way too over the top for my tastes and her actions trying to fill a mothering role with Joey came across as kind of creepy. I got past those by translating those bits into an anime world where that kind of over acting would be amusing. Editing stories in my head is truly an amazing superpower.
Anyway, I was fully engaged in the story, but there's enough friction to drop it half a star. And then the cliffhanger drops it a full star to 3½. I'm going to round up because I'm still all-in on the power fantasy and am eager to pick up the next book. Yes, despite the cliffhanger ending.
A note about craft: Seriously, this author needs to buy an editor. Frankly, it's bad enough I'd encourage them to go back with these already-published books and clean them up and reissue. It'd be a huge step-up in quality. Though Melissa and I do get a kick at some of the more egregious malpropisms.
A note about Chaste: This book makes it pretty clear that Maylolee and Joey are it for each other. She's worry-stalking his exploits on the crystal ball network and he's all innocent-youth pining for her input and approval. It's cute. But they are literally dimensions apart this whole book, so it is very chaste.
This is just set up and filler. It has more exposition and skill descriptions than anything else. You can skim through this and will have missed nothing of importance.
Last we saw Joey Eclipse he was in the first dungeon in his starter area. Things were happening outside with adventurers gathering for the bounty after Joey finished the dungeon. This continues the story very well, giving Joey a chance to shine even brighter. We learn more about the system and see Joey start to power up more. Can't wait for book 4
Really good story with depth to make Joey (MC) *more* than an OP Murderhobo. I love the side stories that keeps readers up to date with most of the moving pieces without overwhelming with too many storylines.
I really like the progression and skill dynamics as there is some new stuff in there that is very creative. Overall is very LitRPG which is my favorite next to Wuxia with Joey thriving in a cutthroat world which is actually better than his time on earth.
I loved this book! It was so good to continue reading about Joey and his path. I love the new characters and definitely excited to continue reading the story.
I started reading Rogue Ascension Book 1 with a little apprehension, not sure if it’s what I really wanted in a book. By the end of it, I was hanging out for book 2. Now we are here with book 3 and I can’t get enough. I have just finished book 3 and already sweating the arrival of book 4. Need I say more. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to read of an ordinary guy becoming something else. He’s amazing
I was caught up in this story from the beginning. Binge read the series in 3 days and now waiting on the next of the series. Definitely worth the read.
Interesting TV, ratings, shows with fantasy portal litrpg.. Good banger... Highly recommend Keep it up JD Glasscock Author of the Series Blood Brothers and the Dream
This applies to books 1,2 & 3 because I’m lazy and don’t want to repeat the same message 3 times.
Better than I originally thought it would be when I saw the first book earlier this year. Honestly glad I gave it a chance a week ago, looking forward to the 4th.
Some downsides: The text could use a bit of polishing, a few words were spelled incorrectly (Typos, typically just missing a letter, or it got switched around (ie: air -> iar, them -> the)), some minor grammatical errors, and that’s basically it.
Interesting story, Long Live “Little Happy Man”, Long May He Reign as Favorite Character.
I think I enjoyed this more than the second book of the series. Josh really comes into his own and behind to really maximize his powers. The bounty hunt prize hits ludicrous levels. And the book ends on a cliffhanger.
Lots of fun, overall. The very concise, minimalistic writing style took a little bit to get used to, but it definitely keeps the pace of the narration party high. Looking forward to the next book in the series!
This was turning out to be a great book. But that last act just killed it for me. On page 430, the main character “Joey” just absolutely lost his mind and decided he would become an idiot. He was doing so great too, but had to take a trip to stupid town. I have no idea why the author decided to make his main character a total insane psychopath in the last few pages of the book. Now I’ll have to take a break from this series.
The story is a big joke. The princess being thirsty for the MC is so unbelievable. The story leans hard into MC being a Gary Sue where everyone loves the MC or viscerally hates the MC. The story tries to be comically edgy and comes off obnoxious.
How people like this stuff, I'll never know. But I made it til half way of book 3 in the series before it wore me down too much.
I really enjoy this series. The MC is flawed but fierce. To be " all in" is my new get it done phrase! I enjoyed the Word building to describe the world he's found himself in However my favorite are the fights. The descriptions are dead on and Exciting. I cannot by wait for the rest !
This story of this world being integrated into the System was a very interesting entertaining read. Our boy becomes a shadow dragon rogue. He’s more of a dodge tank kind of rogue. This book was mostly him finishing his solo dungeon dive, and leaves off as he’s about to battle a sword saint.
It could have been longer. It was to long for book two and probably didn't fit at the beginning of book four. Its a nice story with an intriguing MC, so I don't begrudge the shorter length money grab. Especially with an Author that puts in the hard work first beforehand. I'll be following this Author. Cheerz.
This book was substantially better than the first two, making me glad I stuck with the series. The protagonist is still mostly unlikeable, but he's at least showing some more depth in this book. The overall pacing is a bit better as well.
Some minor typos, but nothing overly distracting. Planning to pick up the 4th book when it comes out.
I just finished book 3 of the series. Who! ...just wow. Lol. I'm was already enjoying the beginning of his journey, but now that he has all the skills & spells under his belt I'm ALL in! I can't wait to begin book 4. And will Joey Ever hook up the the Siren warrior Princess?
I love the first and second books. This book was very short and maybe should have been combined with book 4. I will read the next and decide there. It's a good series, but I do not like cliff hangers and 10.00 for Discord is a bit stiff.
Loved that the book ended on a cliffhanger with the introduction of a a brand new character that we know is going to either be killed or brought into the hoard as a skilled fighter. And this time it’s anime! I’m so excited!!!! I can’t wait for January! Please be dominated sword guy!

What an entertaining series this has turned out to be. I'm really like the direction the author is taking this story and the growth of the MC. Looking forward to the next installment of this series.
You know I really like the direction the author has taken. Joey is a pretty good character as far as MCs are concerned. Not a psychopath, not a doormat, intelligent and consistent… I like the world no magic too
Editing quality continues to fall apart. It is getting worse in this book with real simple stuff like words missing letters. How can even the most basic of word processors not pick up faults like this? It just comes off as really lazy.
Not gonna lie I skimmed through most of book two and three. Cause it was mostly updates to status that weren't really needed. And come on hows this guy in a dungeon for most of book 2 and 3. So yeah it not my cup of tea.
What can I say so far these books have not let you down whenever thoroughly enjoyed them I'm going to continue reading and getting ready to start reading the next book in the series. I recommend you read them they're pretty good if you like this type of books
It's a good book for those who want a fun take on the rpglite genre. It has fun fights, loads of exploration, a few cultivation type instances that don't get convoluted, intense interesting fights, and creative characters.
I picked up Book 1 two days ago and haven’t stopped. Yes the main character is over-powered, but all in line with the lore and story line. Very good writing with a good mix of story and action!
