Survive, grow stronger, and get revenge. All in a new world.
Seth loved his life on Earth. He graduated from his dream college, worked at his dream job, and married his dream girl. Unfortunately, it was all taken away from him when he woke up alone in a dark cavern prowling with dangerous monsters.
Armed with only a small dagger of mysterious origin, he has no choice but to fight through this web of death and darkness to get to safety. But with both his rare abyssal magic and his desire to return home, he will survive this nightmare by any means necessary, and maybe eventually get revenge on those who ripped him away from his dream life.
Check out the start of this action-packed isekai following an overpowered assassin MC who doesn't take anyone's nonsense. Perfect for fans of the Primal Hunter, Defiance of the Fall, and Azarinth Healer!
I stopped reading at page 144. I kept hoping the MC would get serious but he kept failing. First problem: hand weapon to total stranger. Second problem: tell stranger that your wife is no one. Third problem: your strongest skill is Backstab... So kick the monster in the stomach as initial attack. Fourth problem: you're an assassin with a dagger so your take during a monster fight is keep your distance??? WTH?
I'm so disappointed. This could be a good story but it needs serious revamping.
Good for you, writing and finishing a book. That's not something all of us can do. Now find someone to read it that won't blow smoke up your kiester.
No effort nor budget was spent on editing this book. There were a ton of typos, misspellings, and poorly formatted sentences. Grammatical errors galore.
Beyond those immersion breaking and poor quality markings, the story itself suffers greatly from the lack of a developmental editor. There are plot holes, consistency issues, and overall just a ton of things that break what little world building is actually there.
If it wasn't for the cursing, I would have thought the book was geared more towards pre-teens due to it's simplicity and total lack of depth.
To be fair, this isn't the worst book I've ever read, but it's still pretty bad. I really hope these critiques help in the future.
The book started promising. The protagonist acted like a murder hobo. His fighting style kept severely lacking throughout the entire book unfortunately, however. Despite being a dagger fighter he kept his distance, would slash more instead of the backstabbing he was specialized in. He would jump around erratically or spend critical time during battles standing around doing nothing.
After meeting the girl the whole story got bad really quick. I loathed the whole lizard village plot. The dialogues were cringe and the protagonist got saved more and more by plot armor. Later, the author decided to give the reader new perspectives of persons, which i really didn´t care about and reading turned more and more into a slog..
The author of this book really loved to exaggerate everything. Every major fight, the main character had has him almost dying. You could make a game out of how many times the term “Seth waited for his death” was used in the book. Everything was written to exaggerate every action. The main storyline is the same storyline that is find in dozens of other series like this. Nothing new was added to it or interesting twist or unique characters. Same story, different place slightly different characters.
Reading this caused many massive eye rolls. The mc couldn’t keep his mouth shut. This is not a book about an assassin but a book on how not to be an assassin. Really the earthling chose a class he had zero aptitude for. He did not embody the style and methodology required like sneaking, stalking, and hiding and I can’t remember a time he was successful at doing so.
There is no set up, this is done to simplify the story. Anything can be added without conflicting with a setting. The character choices are unmotivated. They are made purely to drive the story, it is obviously heavy handed writing. The dialogue is just bad, completely unrealistic.
DNF @ 13% This book feels overly grindy, but at the same time like the author is in a hurry. The MC is reckless and an idiot (attacking the armoured parts of higher level monsters). It probably gets better, I'm not willing to slog through it to find out.
I read this on RR and got it on KU. I liked it really well and I’m one who is quick to dump a story if it’s not gripping. This is well written, it has few errors, it has a lot of action, and it is one to read. Good characters, good progression, and good fights.
This was a very fun read. In many aspects, it is a standard LITRpg novel. That does not mean it is bad. It has it all, lots of action, great characters, and a fast-paced plot.
I was surprised. MC is summoned to another world to be a host but something went wrong. For once a MC is trying or wanting to go home to his wife. Left on a cliff hanger I hope the second book will be just as good.
Really enjoyed this book. The characters are good and the action isn't boring. The literpg element is just right. Goldilocks would be eating this up. Thank you can't wait for the next one.
The book was fun and interesting the entire time. Seth is a very likable main character. I would have given the book five stars if they hadn’t said “Like a hot knife through butter” three times.
This was a riveting story. It’s fast paced and a quick and fun read. I finished it in one sitting because it was so good! I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
The idea was decent but the execution left something to be desired. A lot of things just didn't make sense. He is suppose to be an assassin type but he doesn't usually act like it. I spent too much time say, "Really?"
At this point the genre is well developed so what separates a story are the characters, style, and progression style. ABYSSAL assassin is satisfying on all these fronts and well worth a read.
It is wild to me that V.A.Lewis's name is on this book. I almost feels like I got clickbaited. I've read their other books, and the writing in this book is a colossal step down.
Hmm, I enjoyed this and will be reading the sequel. But... there's not much new here that hasn't been done before and plenty of other books do it better.
