“The world was full of people doing their best to care for the ones they loved.”
Was great to get back to the town of Blithedale!
Once again are following along with Alice, who is really starting to feel right at home in the town. She enjoys working at her bookshop, Wonderland Books, and enjoys spending time with her friends Ona and Becca. It's really lovely to see familiar faces from previous books, and continue to be introduced to new characters.
However, this book really puts their friendship to the test. Even though Alice and her friends have helped solve murders, this time it's Becca that is accused! But how could she be the murderer? She wouldn't hurt a soul! It falls to Alice and Ona to try to clear Becca's name and find out who the murderer really is. But as the Halloween season is fast approaching, so too are the things that go bump in the night. Is the Pemberley Inn really being haunted by ghosts? Did Mrs Oriel really see a ghost kill? What is happening in Alice's happy town? And can she figure out who is the killer is before more people are murdered?
I really enjoyed this story, and I adored all the twists and turns. I had my suspicions on who the murderer was from the beginning, and when the reveal is shown… I was happy to see I was half right, so I'll take that as a win!
As far as characters go in A Halloween to Die For, I adored how Alice was really quite head-strong this time, with little doubt. In the previous book, she made the mistake of trying to do everything herself, but you can clearly see that she learned from that experience. Ona and Becca, to me, didn't feel like they were as present as previous books, but I guess that makes sense seeing as Becca was in prison. And seeing how Ona was pretty much with Alice the entire time, she just enhanced everything Alice was doing. I will say though that during this book, even though you could tell that Jimbo's (the police chief of Blithedale) was in the right place, he was insufferable. He really is a man who follows the book to. the. letter. Even though he is certain Becca is not the killer, his book says otherwise. It drove me INSANE!!!
Wonderful book, and I'm looking forward to the next one!
“Friendship and love don't just depend on lending a hand; they also depend on asking for help when you need it.”
This is the 3rd book in the Wonderland Books Cozy Mystery series and these books never disappoint.
It is Halloween in Blithesdale and the ghosts and goblins are coming out in full force and of course there is is l going to be a haunted house. Alice is not thrilled about the haunted house but she is told that it is an old school haunted house and won't the slasher theme that most haunted houses have nowadays. Even though Alice will be glad when Halloween is over, she goes along with it. Every thing seems to be going good until someone ends up dead and her best friend is standing over the body with a knife. To top things off, the only witness says she knows Becca didn't do it because she saw the killer and it was a ghost. The witness said the ghost actually floated and was transparent. Well you can guess how reliable that witness was so Alice's best friend is arrested. Even the police chief believes she didn't do it but there is no evidence saying otherwise. So Alice and Ona are determined to prove her innocence. This is going to be hard to do. When Alice starts seeing ghosts at Ona's Inn where she is staying, she is beginning to wonder about the ghost theory, The plot thickens when one of their main suspects also ends up dead. Now who could the killer be and what is the motive!
This book takes the reader on a bit of a roller coaster ride through the ghosts and goblins. What I am really enjoying about these books is that even when the reader believes they have it all figured out there is always a twist at the end. This author knows how to weave a good mystery that leaves the Reader guessing until the very end.
Great story telling Lots of fun Especially mixing the Halloween theme with A magician Of course you have The meg The bad bad guy in the good girl But that's what makes it fun The angst Between women and men And then Friendship And loss What can we do To make it better Is it a feeling you get From the store
I’m starting to really enjoy the author of these books. Always keeping me on my toes and guessing to the end. I also like how you see friendships join closer and you get a warmth sensation from it
3.5⭐️ I DO judge books by their covers. Being a Halloween maniac... this is why I was drawn to this cover. It was a quick (short 207) pager but had a nice plot and who dun it. Definitely will look into more of his novels
I really enjoyed this book. It's the first M.P. Black book I've read. I enjoyed the characters and the story line. I'd highly recommend I'd you're looking for a short mystery.
Halloween might not be my holiday, but this book certainly made it seem rather fun. I'm loving this series, and managed to read this one in one two-hour sitting because I could not put it down.
