Told with unflinching honesty, raw humility, and a healthy dose of hilarity, Married to a Psychiatrist follows Dan’s inspiring true story as his wife uses guilt and curiosity to lure him on a psychological journey that will thaw his icy heart, thereby restoring his ability to emotionally connect. For him, it will be a crash course in self-awareness that will see him mitigate his insecurities, repair broken boundaries, and release a trove of resentment that, to his surprise, was a product of his own beliefs and misperceptions.
Written in short, easy to read chapters, Married to a Psychiatrist is not only a book recommended by therapists for therapists, but told with such vulnerability that it just might inspire you to take a psychological journey of your own.
WARNING: This book contains profanity, disparaging behaviors, and explores themes around biased thinking, dysfunctional family dynamics, and other topics that sensitive readers may find offensive or disturbing. Reader discretion is advised.
As I read the book, I didn’t like the guy. It was his story and he was being honest - he was sharing what he was thinking and that can be upsetting when you put your thoughts in writing.
I was definitely more than like his wife, the psychiatrist, and only disagreed with one of her views. But that is what makes all of us beautiful.
We are all on a journey of life. If we can achieve what he shares at the end of the book, our lives can drastically change for the better.
What I appreciated most about this book was the authors brutally honest and unfiltered personal narrative and self reflections of himself and the world. You can tell he chooses to be honest about his own dysfunction, choices, and experiences in life to avoid trying to persuade the reader to like him. I admired the confidence it took to exercise transparency and authentic self-expression. I think it also shows the capacity for change that is possible when we surround ourselves with individuals who challenge us and expose us to enlightened experiences.
