Her story pulls him into the often tenuous realms of identity, faith, and love redefining his notions of family and closeness.

Do sons pay for the sins of their fathers? Beyond Borders watches one young man’s journey through a religious life cast upon him from birth. The book analyzes the repercussions that come from his making his own choices and the collateral damage that crashes down upon some of those that he encounters along the way who choose to support him for who he is. A good read about sometimes being dealt a really lousy hand, or a little worse, conditional love.
This is an emotionally gripping story. It is an eye-opening look at Christianity and how it affects the youth (good and bad) and the hypocrisy of some people in power who can compromise the enjoyment of worship by their ideals. Jason, the protagonist of the story, learns to question what he has been taught by his strict father, who is a minister. This novel raised many questions and had a great storyline with a powerful, shocking ending that I didn’t see coming.
This was a book that in engaged your emotions from, sadness,to fear to disbelief and more. It kept me on the edge of my seat. I was drawn to the character of Jason who was good but raised in a strict religious, naive environment that he had to endure even after leaving home for missions. He was accused of things that was not true due to niaveness and assumptions. So much happened in this book that I don't have room to write it. It was so-ooo good.
Based on the cover, the subtitle, the description, and the beginning of this book, I was not expecting the dark turns the story took. A quick and fairly engaging read, the ending caught me by surprise. The ending is significantly more surprising and intense than I expected.
Faith-Religion-Fate-Anxiety-Karma-Believe Religion has always been a safe cupboard to hide within for some and an exposed wound for others. The question I often struggle with is, am I hidden or wounded? Someone, please enlighten me on whether there’s a middle ground! Questions, I think, were probed in the write-up.
While not my type of book, I was spellbound throughout, reading it in a one hour setting. I had no idea what this book was about when I picked it but found it fit well with my own experiences and views regarding the widespread corruption in organized religion.
Beyond Borders is part transformative storytelling, part coming of age story and part Greek Tragedy. The life lessons shared through a religious lens are well crafted and kept moving forward in’s well written and entertaining format. Well done
The concept of a young adult wanting to break free of his parent’s control is relatable. The dialogue was a bit rigid though and the ending was a bit abrupt, but overall, a decent read.
A perfect short read for those who are interested in the genre. Good characters and amazing storytelling. Not my usual cup of tea but it was good nonetheless.
