Everyone has secrets, but some are more deadly than others… Nat did something bad. Very bad. But she’s not that person anymore. She has a new name and a new life, and no one, not even her husband Brett, knows what she did. She’s desperate to keep it that way. When they escape the city to move to their dream home in the suburbs, it seems that life can’t get any better. They quickly become friends with new neighbours Fen and Darius, and Nat begins to believe that she can finally put the past behind her. Until the letter arrives. She knows who sent it before she opens it; she’s been found and her past is about to catch up with her. And she can’t see a way out. When a sudden death triggers events that quickly spiral out of control, Nat discovers that she’s not the only one hiding something. Others have secrets, too. Deadly, dangerous, secrets. Secrets that will blow Nat and Brett’s lives apart.
Joanne Ryan lives in the south of England and has always loved writing. Her novels concentrate on the darker, secret side of life of seemingly ordinary people. She also writes under the pen name of Marina Johnson https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
This tale of intrigue, lies and secrets is a great read. I really felt for Nat, the main character; she wasn't a bad person, not really, she'd just done a bad thing but for a good reason. This is a story full of twists and turns just as I've come to expect from Joanne Ryan. The characters and their actions are realistic, the pace is fast and the outcome, which I was crossing my fingers for, very satisfying. Definitely recommend to lovers of psychological thrillers set in a nice, cosy domestic setting. 5 fabulous stars.
Another excellent read! I love this author as the plots are great and to the point. There are no long drawn out descriptions, droning on for paragraphs repeating the same thing in 30different ways, just an enjoyable gripping read.I read her first book and have bought the rest of her novels one after the other. I enjoyed every one! I won't give away any details, but will highly recommend!
When Natalie and Brett's new neighbours invite them to dinner they soon learn that the grass isn't always greener. Great plot, setting and a protagonist with a burning hot backstor. Fabulous
Nat and Brett are invited to dinner at their new neighbours house ; Fen and Darius are the perfect hosts and with sublime food and the drinks flowing the foursome soon realise they will be great friends. BUT as with every thriller there is past secrets bubbling away for a few members of this group and one of them will end up dead
I really enjoyed this book! The minute I started reading it, I couldn’t stop. I didn’t want it to end. Nat did some bad things but for good reasons. She only wanted to help people in bad situations. I love the way the book ended. I can’t wait to read more books by Joanne.
This was a really good story that kept me on the edge of my seat until I finished it. I couldn't help but like the main character, Natalie for being strong, brave and smart in the face of adversity.
I gobbled up this book in 2 days. Well-written, compelling storyline. A quick read. I highly suggest this book. I’m writing this because, on the last page, the author thanks us for reading and asks us to write a review. I think that’s really cute. Support authors!! Support good writing! Thanks for the excellent read, Joanne!
Oh wow!!! Joanne Ryan really knows her stuff!!! The New Neighbours is everything a psychological thriller means and more!!! Absolutely fantastic🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 Next, ALL THE LOST YEARS😌
Easy to read, hard to put down! Full of twists and turns I didn’t see coming! I wish the husband was more likable and went through less mood swings but it’s still a good book!
Once Joanne Ryan hooks you into a story she doesn't let you go. This twisty thriller kept me turning the pages never sure what was going to happen next. The main character Nat was just the right amount of flawed that you could relate to her, and her actions were believable. I couldn't stand her husband, and the push and pull between them was brilliant. A great read!
I really enjoyed this book. I am amazed how strong and determined Nan is. I will recommend it. She is a new writer for me and I will read more of her books.
I enjoyed this book. The narrative kept me engaged, and the story moved along at a good pace. I loved the ending. Not quite what I expected, in a good way.
This was just OK. Very predictable and the plot was rather lacking. It's described as gripping and compelling and I found it to be neither. Sorry, but I don't think I will be reading anything else by this author.
Can’t say much more than this is a good read. I read it in an afternoon and enjoyed it. I try not to write about the plot to prevent spoilers. I will read the author again.
I could NOT put this book down & read it cover to cover in one sitting! I thought it was well written, a good mystery, & look forward to reading more books by Joanne Ryan!!!
The New Neighbours. byJoanne Ryan. This book captivated me in the the first few pages … well written and very appealing to read. Don’t always think people being nice are really friends ..
I started this book, then got busy with life but I eventually made time to come back to it and.. I’m so glad I did!! It was a super quick read. I ended up reading it all in a couple hours (I’m a fast reader but still). This book is full of secrets, lies, murder, and suspense! Ah the suspense was killing me during this book. There were so twists but not too crazy of twists. The book was sort of predictable, but still really good. Nat is the main character and her and her husband Brett just moved to a new house. Nat and Brett meet their new neighbors, Darius and Fen and life can’t seem any better. Plus, Nat is excited to have a new friend since moving. While at their new house, Nat receives a letter… she knows who sent it. She knows she been found and she is worried that her past may catch up with her. Then an unexpected death occurs, causing a domino effect of what comes next. The truth comes to light that Nat is not the only one who keeps secrets😱
Do we need to hear a blow-by-blow description of every mundane thing in a person's life? This is book is a waste of space. And unfortunately, I wasted my time reading it.
Compelling, fast paced and moving. There isn't a page turned that doesn't leave you wanting more.
We find Nat, the main character in her seemingly flawless life with rich husband, Brett. Cracks start to appear when a letter arrives on her doorstep and she's forced to face her past. She can't run from who she is forever. The new neighbours seem like they could be the perfect friends, perhaps she can confide in Fen? Or is Fen hiding something too? Something much darker.
If you're after a psychological thriller in which you're never going to guess to the twists, then this one is for you.
Maybe I need to stop reading for a while. Maybe I’ve read too many books so far this year? I’m not sure why but the psychological thrillers that I normally love are just not doing it for me right now. This book was ok but I must admit I found myself fairly bored a lot of the time. It just wasn’t intriguing or exciting for me.
It certainly wasn’t a bad book and the ending was good but overall I found it pretty average. If the synopsis sounds up your alley then definitely give it a go.
