Travis "Colt" Taylor wasn't fooled by Sarah Hadley's fussy raven curls & sexy sashay. The strong-willed widow was no damsel-in-distress, there was nothing shy or submissive about her.
Victoria Thompson was a beloved authoress of 'standard mystery' novels.
This middle of the road tone is not violent like a 'thriller' but unsanitized (NOT light like a 'cozy mystery'), is unflinchingly adult, serious, and dark.
Humour, romance, family, and compassion balance out the crime part of dear Victoria's unforgettable mysteries.
I love VT’s romances 🕯 🌙 ... absolutely entertaining and enticing with a quirky sense of humor. I hesitate to start one of her romances because I’ll have to finish it. It’s like saving that last delicious chocolate or slice of cheesecake 😁 ... wanting to savior it before it’s all gone. Same thing for me with her romances, I savor the stories unread until I’m ready to come to terms with finishing it. 😋🤩
Once again, this story didn’t disappoint- it was great and I love the way she got her “Colt” to come around. Hehe 😉😏
This was the first Victoria Thompson book I've read outside of the Gaslight Mysteries, and I really enjoyed it. Will definitely be reading more of her other books!
I enjoyed this story. The characters were well-developed, and I learned a lot about the introduction of sheep farming in Texas.
I definitely knew who the bad guy was almost as soon as he showed up. I had a few tense moments when the heroine did not know who the bad guy was, but in the tradition of romance novels, it all turned out well in the end.
I did have to actively suspend my disbelief a couple of times, but it was not often enough to cause a serious problem with my enjoyment of the story.
