This might be the best beginner's knitting book I've seen. Stark explains clearly what you need and what to do, but also encourages the learning knitter to "just try it." The book includes patterns in a stair-step approach, starting with the very basic and then slowly adding new skills with each one.

Book Review: Two Needles, Many Knits: The New Knitter's Guide with Easy Patterns by Quayln Stark

Rating: 4 Stars

As someone who grew up watching my mother knit beautiful sweaters and scarves, I always felt a pang of regret for not picking up the needles myself. Fast forward to now, and I finally decided to dive into the world of knitting—a decision that led me straight to Two Needles, Many Knits by Quayln Stark. This book is a fantastic resource for anyone looking to learn how to knit, especially if you're a beginner like I am!

From the get-go, Stark's guide makes it incredibly easy to navigate the knitting landscape. The book is structured into three skill levels, which means you can start from scratch and gradually build your skills without feeling overwhelmed. I appreciated how the first half of the book focuses on essential techniques and stitches, breaking everything down into simple, understandable terms. Whether you're trying to grasp the difference between a knit and a purl stitch or figuring out how to read a pattern, Stark has you covered.

One of the standout features of this book is its emphasis on hands-on projects. After mastering the basics, readers can jump into 15 delightful patterns that range from easy beginner items to slightly more challenging garments. I particularly loved the variety of projects showcased—there's everything from a cozy Lapis Cinched Beanie to a stylish Quartz Bias Scarf. The instructions are clear, and the accompanying photos really help visualize each step along the way.

As someone who was initially intimidated by knitting, I found the approachable nature of this book very refreshing. The patterns not only look great but also use attractive color choices that make each project feel modern and fashionable. Plus, with a good number of photos included throughout, I never felt lost while trying to follow along.

While the first half lays down the groundwork for beginners, the latter half takes you on a gradual journey through more complex patterns, making it a perfect learning tool. The detailed explanations about yarn categories were especially enlightening; I now find myself more confident in selecting the right materials for my projects.

In summary, Two Needles, Many Knits is an excellent gateway into the world of knitting. It's a well-organized, visually appealing guide that makes learning enjoyable and rewarding. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to pick up a new hobby or revisit an old one—just like me. Who knows? You might end up crafting your very own cozy creations in no time!

Overall, I’d give this book a solid four stars. It’s engaging, informative, and definitely encourages you to keep those needles clicking!

Recently, I've found myself drawn to cozy crafts, and knitting quickly captured my interest. I was fortunate enough to receive an e-book copy of this book from NetGalley and Callisto Publishing, and it has been an incredible introduction to the craft.

The book is beautifully laid out, offering a clear and concise step-by-step guide that covers everything from understanding basic tools and yarn to reading labels effectively. The user-friendly layout and thorough instructions make it easy for even the most novice of knitters to follow along. As a beginner myself, I found the detailed photos and the instructions for purl knitting particularly helpful.

The well-explained and varied patterns ensure there's something for everyone, no matter your skill level, and the progression of difficulty will keep you motivated and excited about your skill development.

Overall, this is a wonderfully presented book with a wealth of information for beginner knitters. Two Needles, Many Knits is a comprehensive tutorial book with patterns for knitting a number of projects including clothing, accessories and soft furnishings written and curated by Quayln Stark. Due out 3rd Sept 2024 from Callisto, it'll be 152 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.

This new collection delivers precisely as promised on the cover: a collection of up-to-date, attractive, beginner to intermediate accessible projects that readers will *want* to create. It includes a basic learn to knit tutorial guide, followed by the patterns. They're a varied lot and they're divided into three groups by difficulty: level 1-3.

Patterns contain a description, materials list with yarns notions and supplies needed, followed by step by step instructions. Written directions are clear and easy to understand. Each pattern is also accompanied by one or more color photos.

Four stars. Nothing absolutely ground-breaking here.. but the projects are all simple enough for beginners, with clear directions, attractive finishing, and nice color choices. Working through some of these projects will give new knitters the skills and confidence they need to move to the next level.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

When I was young, my mother taught me a lot of crafts, from knitting to sewing my own clothes. However, as an adult I gradually stopped doing them. I still retain some knowledge of sewing and can do simple tasks like hemming, but I have essentially forgotten everything about knitting. A few years back, I did take up crochet, then this month my mother-in-law passed me her knitting needles when she moved house, as she didn't plan to use them anymore. At that time, I saw this book available for review and decided to take a look.

Reading through the initial information, I did start to feel a little familiarity with the stitches, a hazy memory stirring. This book is aimed at complete beginners, so it offers careful explanations, accompanied by photo illustrations, of all aspects involved, from choosing a needle to casting on and off. I found the text clear and easy to understand, especially with aid from the pictures. After imparting basic knowledge, the book offers three levels of patterns. In Level 1 you commence with a simple square washcloth, but by Level 3 you are making jumpers. I particularly enjoyed how, with just this one text, you can go on a journey through the book, gradually increasing your skills. As such I am giving it five stars, and when I get a moment free, I will give knitting a go again. Highly recommended to those looking to learn how to knit.

I received this book as a free eBook ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Two Needles, Many Knits is a beginner's knitting book full of wonderful photography and clear instructions, making it a great choice for those new to knitting. One thing I learned from this book that I hadn't seen in any others is the detailed explanation of yarn categories, which I have not encountered elsewhere. The "How to Read a Pattern" section clearly explains how to interpret written patterns, but it falls short by not covering chart reading. Another helpful feature is the glossary. I appreciate that it not only provides descriptions of terms but also shows how they are spelled out in a pattern and gives the page number where each term can be found in the book. Whether you're just starting out and have no knitting books at all or you're looking for a beautiful coffee table book on knitting, this one would be a wonderful addition.

Thank you to Callisto Publishing for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Great for beginning knitters, or ones who haven't pick up their needles for a few years and need a refresher.

The first half of the book explains the basics of knitting and the different techniques, while the 2nd half is a collection of beginner friendly patterns that build upon skills into harder patterns as you go through the book. I loved the cute patterns, and bright colors, as well as the instructions that were clear and none of the patterns had overly hard to understand abbreviations. I am not a particularly skilled knitter, but I can pick out a basic pattern pretty well and do it justice. And I found that these patterns were perfect for that, and a wonderful collection of lovely patterns that were cute, but not overly intimidating.

Again great for the casual knitter, beginners, or people that need a refresher!

I'm not a beginning knitter and skimmed through all the introductory stuff to look primarily at the patterns but it seems like this would be a decent book for someone wanting to learn. All the patterns build upon the previous one and start out very simply and end with a raglan sweater. There is no discussion of colorwork and pattern stitches are also very simple. It would have been nice to include some photos of the patterns done with a different yarn, colorway, or stitch. I even found a simple purse that I think I'll whip up (Sapphire Garter Bag, p. 90) although I'll totally change the construction to be knit in the round or a long rectangle that seams up on the long side, and then felt the whole thing...

Perfect book to get you started with knitting. A comprehensive guide to the knotty world of knitting. Lots of easy to understand instructions and explanations. I particularly enjoyed the breakdown of different yarns and what they are best and worst for. The troubleshooting section is great. Nice bright images, although it would be nice to see a wider range. The patterns are clear and easy to follow, perfect for a beginner, but enough of a challenge by the end that you feel like you have accomplished something.

Thank you to Netgalley for a free preview of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

If you're looking for an all-in-one resource for learning to knit this is the book for you.
Absolutely nothing is overlooked in this comprehensive step by step guide. From the most basic element - the slip knot - to full patterns to make your own accessories & garments, this book has you covered.
I loved how easy it is to follow Quaylyn's instructions. There are full color photos of every step along the way as well as helpful "troubleshooting" guides -- I've never seen such a complete knitting guide in any form.
This is every bit as good as learning from your granny or bestie (and probably even better).

This book is great if you want to get started with knitting.

The first half of the book talks about all you need to know: needles, yarn, types of stitches and anything you might need. The 2nd half is filled with pattern, many photos and easy step by step instructions. The patterns are organized in 3 different levels of difficulty.

The only issue I had with this book is that I expected more patterns (considering the title)

Thank you for the Advance read copy! Two needles, many knits is a great book for the beginner. The book shows how to come up with a supplies list. It is easily understood, and someone with no understanding of knitting can pick it up and learn the skills. The pictures correspond with patterns. I really enjoyed the patterns despite the difficulty of the pattern it is able to be read. The pictures are colorful. The glossary explains the abbreviations and how to complete the patterns. It explains how to read the yarn label. I will be purchasing a copy of the book when it becomes available.

My grandmother taught me how to knit when I was younger. Unfortunately, I haven’t picked up a set of needles in years. This book served as a great refresher and I can see how it would help any novice learn to. It’s simply explains everything and it’s clear. If you’ve been looking to pick up a set of needles and make something with yarn and your own two hands, here’s your chance to learn.

A nice book for getting started with knitting. There are good instructions for learning the stitches and some cute, easy patterns. The pictures are colourful and the patterns seem fun.
However, there's nothing new here. Nothing particularly exciting going on. It's a fine book for a beginner.

The projects are quite basic and the instructions are not clear, starting with the first beanie, that had no clear instruction on the end. Time wasted, not recommending this book. Had to watch youtube tutorials, parallel to the book.

Boy oh boy am I glad that I got this book, knitting has never been easier!

I used to knit probably almost 15yrs ago and the knowledge felt like it was long lost. I just recently tried to pick the hobby up again and so I went to the craft store for all of the supplies and I picked up a couple “Learn how to Knit” books from there as well, and I’ll be honest, I almost returned them. I just could not get what was happening, everything from the descriptions to the illustrations were confusing, and there was only so much I could do with YouTube.

And then I discovered “Two Needles, Many Knits”, and it was like finally being able to understand algebra, IT WAS SO MUCH EASIER. From the beginning to end I felt like the Author did a wonderful job of both putting everything in as simple of terms as possible but also doing a really great job of showing you with the illustrations as well. I was able to fully knit a washcloth in UNDER 2 HOURS, the very first project that I have completed since relearning how to knit! 5 ⭐️’s!

Thank you so much to the Author Qualyn Stark, I would have had such a difficult time trying to do this without your work!

Big thank you to Callisto Publishing and NetGalley for my free ebook copy of “Two Needles, Many Knits”

I received this advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
