Behind bars, the life of a convict is a brutal game of survival. When Dean Steele receives an invitation from Ashford Prison to speak to the troubled men there. He is hopeful that he’d inspire the men to change for the better. But his arrival is met with commotion and chaos. Riots erupt and bodies start dropping.
Now, it’s up to Dean to go undercover and infiltrate the prison to find out the truth amid the murderous anarchy. When the tables are turned with the bloodthirsty prisoner running the prison and taking the guards as hostages. Not even Dean could have predicted what would soon follow.
Some actions have fatal consequences and this one act by The Convict is a wildfire in the making...
I loved this book. Lost a night of sleep to finish it. Dean was in charge of a class at the prison, when things got out of hand. He refused to leave, but wanted to stay and help to prove that inmate Carpenter, didn't kill the prison doctor. From missing inmates, keeping the guards safe, and finding out what was going on, Dean had his hands full. Some of the prisoners requested Xavier be brought into the prison. As usual Xavier helps out as only he can do. This is a must read, with mystery, mayhem, and lots going on, will keep you reading. As always A.J. Rivers has once again written a prize winning book.
The Convict, the latest Dean Steele mystery is a definite must read. Dean is asked to participate in a prison program to help inmates. When he is caught up in a prison riot, he uses his skills to uncover the truth about the death of the prison doctor This book is A. J. Rivers at her very best. Couldn’t stop reading this once I started. I received an ARC of this book from the author. This is an honest review!
I found A J Rivers name on comments in another book group I was in. Have now read all books that are in print. Great story line and believable characters. All stories twist and turn. The characters can intertwine between the different books. My two great likes are that seldom is crude language used and no steamy intimate scenes that can go on for pages.
It's amazing, considering how many books AJ Rivers has written in such a short time, yet she can still come up with unique settings and storylines. This one is particularly good, when Dean gets drawn into a prison conflict and has to work from the inside. And it's always a bonus when Xavier plays a big part.
Great storyline. Love how Dean gets into all sorts of trouble and X is almost always needed to help him get out of he bad situations. Can’t wait to get to know Dean’s son Owen better and maybe he will be helping out his dad also. They both can put Alex behind bars.
I was completely confused by this story, boring, I understand it’s fiction but come on there isn’t a prison with such feel good inmates, camp cupcake is tougher , and if you think guards or inmates would agree to have an outside presence be the leader of a take over is laughable, maybe the others in this series are better but this one is a stinker
Whoa! I did not see that last part coming! Dean is getting almost as good as Emma solving crimes. This story had been flipping pages as fast as I could. There were so many different facets to this story, I wasn’t sure which way it would go next. Kept me on my toes, don’t miss it!
OMG!!!!!!!! This book was amazing and kind of scary, I was very worried about Dean and Xavier. They were in a prison after a riot, and a murder was committed. They way they solved the murder and helped out the prisoners was truly amazing. I am glad that I already have the next book to read.
PI Dean Steele goes back to prison... as a teacher. But while there, the house doctor turns up dead, and the prison goes on lockdown. Now, Dean is stuck inside and tries to solve a murder while walking a thin line between the prisoners and correctional officers.
This is a great thriller. I loved this book . I could not put this book down This series and Emma series are the best series I enjoy reading. I can't wait till the next book comes out. I highly recommend this book and series
As always, A.J. Rivers did a great job! Awesome storyline with surprises, twists and turns. Great characters, all of them. And hard to put down. I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.
What was to be a week long seminar turns into a murder perhaps & many questions. The Only thing is that the cameras malfunction and the prison is in lock down. While trying to investigate & keep prison officials out Dean has 24 hrs to catch the culprit!!
Dean volunteers to do a writing work shop at a prison. On his second day there the prison medic is found with her head bashed in, the cameras go on the blink & a riot breaks out & Dean is locked in when they lock down the prison!
Loved this book. The storyline holds your attention and keeps you guessing throughout. I could hardly put it down. Really love the side stories and Xavier. I highly recommend this series.
Dean is such a bad-***. It amazes me how effortlessly all the books flow. This one like all the others tells a great story and kept me reading to figure it all out alongside Dean and Xavier.
Very interesting story. The prison being taken over by the prisoners and how Dean handles getting the prison back into shape was very involved. Plus catching the individual who thought he had killed the prison doctor was fantastic.
I loved this book! It had action, juice, connections to all the previous tales& XAVIER! This is my first full series & not going to lie I’m eating it up like a Netflix series
Talk about a good hanging end. She does book 7 come out. Definitely a must read. I have read all in series and enjoy him getting Emma involved. And she involves him in her series. Such good series.
This was a great story about Dean being in prison and trying to solve what is going on within the prison walls. There was lots of suspense and action. Thank you.
So the Dean/Owen story gets deeper with an interesting twist at the end. X is a lovable introspective character as always and the “Convict” story line took a turn I never saw coming.
The Dean Steele mystery series is good but starting to hang. I hate when the story line doesn't wrap up. They can still have old characters in stand-alone books.
PLEASE keep them coming. I love the friendship between Dean and X, and the family connection with Emma and Sam. I cannot wait for Dean' s & X's next adventure!!
