AVA ROSS fell for men with unusual features when she first watched Star Wars, where alien creatures have gone mainstream. She lives in New England with her husband (who is sadly not an alien, though he is still cute in his own way), her kids, and assorted pets, including a yorkie pup and three cats.
Eleri has been somewhat of an outcast. Abandoned by her family in the forest are age three, and belittled by the town girls due to her injured leg. The only person who shows her love is her adopted father, Sur. On the night of the hunt, her beloved father is murdered and she is set up for his death. With no other option, she runs to the gate and “volunteers” to be the bridal prey for the Orc’s to hunt and runs out the gate into the forest. Odik is the leader of the Zephyr Clan. When his clan pendant flares, he knows that the female running through the forest is his fated mate. He knows too that he’ll need to be patient until she learns to trust him. In the meantime, he needs to protect his island and people from the terrible storms that hit, and a way to keep them from leaving it for the city. Not your usual meet cute.

Eleri had to leave her home immediately as she was accused of murdering the man who was a father to her. The real murderer is the accuser. Eleri takes the place of another female, grabs her bag and runs into the woods for the mate hunt by the Orcs. Okik's special pendant lights up for Eleri. She is his mate. As they travel to his island and home, they find the time to know each well enough that Eleri recognizes Odik is her mate and she falls in love with him. They work together to make his clan and island the best for all. This story has adventure, steamy romance and a very happy ending.
Departure from others in series after the hunt. The book concentrated on the couple getting to know each other as previous books. But this was one of some practical matters I would have thought of if suddenly in the world. If most of orc females are dead, then that meant males would face the fact they may never have a mate. Either they would have females with multiple males in their “family group” or the males would have to figure out how to make a living and what was important to them. This book had added burden of fresh water needs on island.
I was surprised that Orc’s Mate is a very entertaining book. I expected the plot to be nearly nonexistent but, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that author Ava Ross has quite an imagination, as well as, good writing skills. There are a few grammatical errors but, the drama and the humor made me decide to ignore them. FYI-There is a bit of steam. I’m looking forward to the next in series.
Disclaimer: I received this ebook from BookFunnel and this is my honest opinion.
I loved it. This couple truly deserved each other. One was the leader of a failing clan and the other a human female with a disability. But the Orc leader didn’t care about her limp but her courage and resilience. And the human just wanted the acceptance and love she received from her Orc mate. awesome ending and great world building.
The human villages in order to be protected from predators have an agreement with “monsters”. One wonders who truly the monsters are in this story. Great read, great characters and a great storyline with wonderful depth and character development.
Eleri was somehow hurt when she was three which left her with a limp. Though she was taken in by a kind older man she was ridiculed by the girls her age . treachery struck so she left for the orc mate hunt. Odik found her and then the story begins! Enjoy

I've never read about orcs that have horns and other interesting physical features ;) Nice characters, I liked that the female lead wasn't a perfect heroine, completely submissive weakling or a femme fatale. It's nice to see someone with flaws in a smutty romance, normal people need a representation too ;) Odik was a sweetheart, I have a soft spot for any beastly looking guys that try their best to be gentle and kind.
