Red Company: Invasion

Rate this book
An alien ship invades the Solar System for the first time in recorded history. The Earth Cruiser Agamemnon is destroyed in combat, and the search for answers begins.

The veteran crew of Borag gets the assignment, and the race is on. Sgt. Starn of Red Company must visit the disaster site, perform a search and rescue mission, and return to Mars alive.

What kind of technology could destroy an Earth warship so easily? Why is a single life-pod found floating, transponder pinging away—with no one aboard? Most important of all, what is the prowling alien super-ship going to do next?

Find out in the thrilling fourth book of the Red Company INVASION.

So much fun, just like other stuff from the author!

The alien threat becomes real in this story as humans have their first major encounter. I really enjoyed how the world developed in this latest episode!

One of Larson's weakest books

I haven't much cared for these Red Company books. There's hardly anything to this story this time around. Guess BV is running out of ideas, as this is possibly the most simplistic story since before Star Force. Undying Mercenaries is suffering from the same problems with just dragging out the story book after book for the Kindle Unlimited paycheck and it seems to be going around with these authors.

An alien ship attacks. Red company defends. There's a bunch of haggling from bean counters. The end. That's all there is to this and I won't be reading any of the rest of these.

Boring and annoying.

You'll recognise all the following points if you've ever read Undying Mercenaries.

Starn seems to be a clone of the horndog James McGill.

Blackwood is sneaky slimy rat like Winslade.

Dr Shiraf is just an annoying grizzly old hag. I really hate this character.

And so on....

Starn does someone really cool thing and his superiors stomp on him for doing a shit job over and over, again just like Undying Mercenaries.

After 4 books of this I think I might have had enough.
It's a shame as I don't like leaving a series unfinished.

I'd prefer it if Larson was a little less prolific in his writing and concentrated on the quality.

I get the feeling that at this point he's just writing as many books as possible for the Kindle Unlimited pay check. Sad.....

BEMs are back!

They were slowly shown on the previous books, but BEM (Buge eyed monsters) are in full force here. We are reading a return to almost 100 years back in the SF literature, but it is not so bad as it seems. Larson reads quickly and well, and apparently there a lot more things which might happen. Oh yes the character are very thin, no real psychology, interactions among them is very basic, but it is still entertaining, what more do you want ? I read this book in a few hours, and it was entertaining. Looking forward to the next ones, not looking forward to masterpieces, but good solid entertainment. This time the battle is moving to Mars, but I will not spoil the novel.

Red company s blooding

I think it was a fantastic idea from the get go now a man from earth should do so well in a marine company among such a bunch of predatory sharks as we're portrayed in the ships company. More please !

Good Book and Series

Enjoyable read with plenty of action and good dialogue. Solid character building on several characters that leads to a good plot with twist and turns that keeps the read an entertaining adventure.

good story good action

I’m a big fan of the author and have read most everything he’s written, Red Company series is done well and worth reading. If you’ve enjoyed the Underlying Mercenary series you’ll like this series too.

what the action shows what might happen

About the characters, especially Sergeant, SDARN. So just down reading. Some of our people are in hell our service people are the backbone of our defects. What can happen if we aren’t there. Lots of action. Scientifically based.

A great read and new series

BV Larson can be counted on to craft great stories supported by e en better characters. I have yet to find any of his series lacking, and this one is no exception. Do not pass this by.

Lost 2 stars for NOT writing a Recap.

I think every reader needs to start doing this to force authors to write a quick Recap chapter, which readers can skip if they remember, and those who don't won't stop reading the series.

DNF. Seven chapters in, and I just can't continue. The story keeps moving forward, but the main character doesn’t. He doesn’t learn from his mistakes—in fact, he doesn’t seem to learn anything at all. He’s stuck in the same mindset he had in the early chapters of book one. Now he’s entangled in a love triangle—or maybe even a four-way mess—with some very shallow women, and this flimsy drama is dragging down the entire plot. No thanks.
