Nakeia delves into the lives of us all and minute changes that we can make. Obe suggestion is to take the longer way home to spend more time on self care. You don't have to be a parent to need self care. A must read.

Habits for Healing is an incredibly important self-help book that is a heartfelt guide to healing from our past traumas and negative behaviors and ultimately finding peace and self-empowerment. I felt like Ms. Homer was speaking directly to me, and I could deeply relate to examples that she shared. She also offers journaling cues for self-reflection and powerful affirmations at the end of each chapter. I also appreciated that although the author is a mother, she doesn't just rely on anecdotes about parenting and raising children. She addresses many different facets of a person's life. She gives sage, heartfelt advice and wisdom. This book is extraordinary, and I'm grateful to have read it. Thanks to NetGalley and Convergent Books for the ARC.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Nakeia Homer for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for Habits for Healing: Reclaim Your Purpose, Peace, and Power coming out September 17, 2024. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.

As a former counselor and social worker, Nakeia Homer has helped thousands of people see that the journey from surviving to thriving begins with your habits.

In Habits for Healing, Nakeia Homer sheds light on simple, powerful acts that move us toward healing and help us to escape patterns of burnout, toxic relationships, and emotional exhaustion. Drawing on her work guiding others and her own experience of healing from a traumatic childhood, she helps readers find healing in their everyday rhythms.

I received this book directly from NetGalley. This isn’t a book I would typically pick out for myself to read. I’m not super into self-help books. But I actually really loved this one! I thought she had a really awesome message about making time and taking the effort to fix your issues while also showing yourself forgiveness and acceptance. I’m a big believer in self-care and reflection on what can I change about myself to do and be better? Some people definitely go through a lot of trauma in their lives and everyone will have ups and downs. I think this book provides healthy tips on how to deal with it. I loved that she had a lot of personal experiences and she added her faith to the book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys books about healing!

This book came into my life at the right time. I'm on the path to healing, am in counseling, trying to get better. I'm thankful to the author Nakeia Horner, the publisher, and Goodreads for the free print copy. The book releases on 9/17/24. Easy 5 stars. I think I'm going to need to go back through slowly and work each step. It's that kind of book for sure. I loved the prayer at the end too and copied it into my phone:

I pray you go from self sacrifice to self-care.
I pray you emotionally release and let go of everything that has you stuck in sameness.
I pray you take accountability for the role you play in your own struggle and start rewriting your own story.
I pray you grow to accept what you can't change and fix what you can.
I pray you forgive yourself for learning some things the hard way.
I pray the things you used to take personally become the things you use to make you better.
I pray that minding your own business gives you the physical and emotional freedom you need to create the life you love.
I pray you find the courage to set boundaries and secure your peace.
I pray you remember you.

First of all, I would like to thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author of this book for giving me an opportunity to have and read the ARC.

Honestly, I chose to request 3 titles of self-help books because I have my personal struggles and this is the 2nd one. It was a bit lengthy for me but I did my best because I want to give it a proper review.

I want to give it 5 stars because of the effort but I gave a lower rating because I wanted to drop it halfway. I know that the author give it her best shot to share a piece of her to the world but it felt a bit like a textbook for me. Still, thank you for the slap to reality. It somehow helped me to calm down despite the toxicity in my workplace. Before I read this, I was thinking of not going to work anymore. It helped me manage it even for a bit.

For the author, I hope this review won't stop you from writing more and improve your craft.

I have just finished “Habits for Healing”.
This book does an excellent job getting you to take a step back and self-reflect about what areas you need to heal in your own life. There were so many good chapters in here, stuff in my own personal life that I never even realized needed to be healed. Nakeia Homer was a social worker and a counselor. She spends her time now, sharing different ways you can heal yourself in your own life. From learning how to choose yourself and the importance of your daily self-love routines to respecting your own boundaries as well as others, it grows you so much.
You do not understand the benefit of these things until you apply what you have learned from this one.
I really recommend this book!

"i have the right to take up space"

4/⭐

I know not my typical book but healing is important

Nakeia makes it easier for you to talk about things
She asks questions in her books even giving you the space to answer within it

Telling you over and over again things like you are aloud to take up space, i will respect my limits I'm aloud to say no

She doesn't only talk about the clinical/theoretical part of healing but also her story, her experiences and how change effected her

A book worthy of its title i would recommend

I’m very happy that I took the time to listen to Nakeia’s book as an audiobook. I listened to each chapter intentionally usually late at night while putting my baby back to sleep through the night. Her voice was wonderful company during the raw post-partum journey of self-reflection and helped me feel compassion towards myself and built up confidence in my abilities to love. I recommend the audio book highly to those who are struggling to feel comfortable in their own body, whatever the challenges. Thanks to the author.

This book is very insightful. As someone who struggled to justify self care and figure out what that meant—this was a great guide.
Setting boundaries and facing each day with a new set of challenges can be daunting—but the author beautifully outlines that healing can occur.

A wonder read for anyone who is at the crossroads of being stuck and feeling like giving up. This is your roadmap and directions to finding yourself again.

Reading this book was healing in itself. Can’t wait to revisit it as I apply the strategies mentioned in the book.

The author took care in writing it in such a way that will not elicit feelings of self-pity, self-loathing, and this-author-thinks-she’s-better-than-anyone on the part of the reader. Even to the point of making you proud of all the things you had to do just to survive, with the gentle, encouraging nudge to heal so you can eventually thrive and live your best life.

Within the first Chapter I was already Hooked. I have been needing a read that can help me heal myself but also to feel hear. I love that the author has even shared her life and makes this read even more relatable and meaningful.

A book I didn’t know I needed, and steps I had no idea I was taking. A book to keep on the shelf. Not just self-help, it’s community help. Self-healing is the category this should be under.
