December 3, 2024Bit of an apology for still not finishing this small story collection! Been too busy! One of the creative issues stopping me from publishing has been with regards to the chapter starring a statue, which was a little bit of a creative challenge I agreed to engage in, but never did.
Why?
Well, I was concerned about the rhythmicity because I always had the vibe Latamian poetry was excessively strict about using similar termination esdrújulas. And the complicated nature of fitting words in for this purpose to fit a story sequence while simultaneously needing it to be translateable to English didn't animate(?) (mmm... no sé como expresar el concepto de animar en el sentido de tener ganas de proceder a hacer algo) me due to the immense difficulty.
However, I have learned a bit more about the 1970's Mexican counter poetry movement that breaks away from the mold of fitting a cog into a square. This rule can be broken if the words have a rhythmic intonation. And I think doing so should be heavily encouraged because I always felt forcing people to be so squared minded to appease people that love the old Latamian works (which have issues I am very vocal about but seemingly nobody else cares about) didn't sit well with me. I like doing things my way, which is probably why so many readers hate the cliffhangers in some of my books.
So, I do wish to be working on the statue chapter. I already have a nice drawing for it. I don't know what kind of market would be interested in such a work cuse they aren't horror stories aimed at American audiences. People would probably think they don't scare at all, I dunno. Aiming for more cozy non slasher non blow up zombies stuff. I really like the story The anguish of Don Fermín. It's just so Latin American in the way the characters interact with each other. The vibe will be extra obvious because I am first writing it in Spanish and translating backwards into English.
