How Great Is Our God: Living a Worship-Led Life in a Me-Driven World

Rate this book
Recenter God in your life with How Great Is Our Living A Worship-Led Life In a Me-Driven World by Grammy Award-winning worship artist Chris Tomlin. In this intimate look at his songs, Tomlin shows how worship music is more than just music but a tool for putting God first.

Living in a me-driven world means being the king of a small, earthbound kingdom. Chris Tomlin posits that when you choose to live a worship-led life instead, you will eventually gain welcome to God’s eternal kingdom. After spending over two decades as one of the most successful worship musicians in the market, he’s learned that he wasn’t just called to sing but to lead others to God. He shows with his writing how God is all around us, encouraging us to reject the worldly notion of living for ourselves and instead decide to live for Him.

Tomlin uses his experience as a worship artist to detail what it means to truly live a worship-led life,
Exploring how his songs emphasize a God-centered life, Explaining how Christians can redefine worship in their everyday lives, And breaking down Bible verses that celebrate God’s greatness.
How Great Is Our God calls readers to remember the true meaning of worship—singing God’s praises both inside and outside of church. When you live a me-driven life, you choose to focus on yourself, but when you live a worship-led life, you choose to focus on God and others. Follow along with Chris Tomlin as he considers the importance of reshaping your world around God and laying yourself at His feet.

I listened to this on Spotify but will be buying the book to listen/ read frequently. This was an amazing devotional, and I learned so much about Chris Tomlins meaning behind each of his songs. Worship to me goes so much deeper than a song, and this book dives deep into how to lead a worship led life. I love that after he gives the backstory to why/what caused him to write a song, he has you listen to the song and asks self reflect questions. There were several times in this book that I found myself sobbing at the beauty of God's work through this artist.

This was one of the greatest devotional books I've ever read, and made me miss my mom sooo much while reading it. 10000% recommend this book to anyone

I would give this a 10 out of 10 if I could. I would encourage anyone that is following Jesus or searching for answers to find this book and take the challenge presented in it to spend 21 minutes each of the 21 days as you work through these short chapters presented by Chris. What a wonderful reminder of what my life should be if a strive to have a worship-led life. I have a long, long ways to go for sure. He brought back so many worship songs to my memory that he encouraged me to find and sing out loud each day (I did not sing out loud but maybe next time I will because speaking the truth into your life is so very important to our faith journey). Each chapter besides containing a central theme had a challenge section at the end to bring it all together for that day. I found myself asking these two questions: what is God saying to me and what am I going to do about it? What a challenge but what an encouragement to lean into what Chris is sharing with us in this book.

What a great book! I was privileged to be an early reader. Chris Tomlin asked his early readers to spend 21 minutes of daily reading and 21 minutes of daily praise worship, but I couldn't stop there. I read the book once and listened to the audiobook 4 times and I know I am not finished. This book is jam-packed full of Scripture with nugget after nugget of insight and truth. It offers readers a clear vision into the heart of Chris Tomlin.

Many of us, including myself, love all the 'feels' associated with good worship music. This book reinforced something I knew, but didn't live in this me-driven world. Worship is not about me or about how it makes me feel or about how good the music or singer is. Instead, it begins and ends with our Holy, Holy, Holy God!

Chris's  explanation of worship - a worship led life is a movement from upward (love God) to inward (love yourself) to outward (love others) helped me and I'm sure will help others understand how to live a worship-led life in a me-driven world. I can say I will never fall back into my old ways of thinking about worship after reading this book.

So after 21 chapters, 21 days, 21 minutes of daily reading, 21 minutes of daily praise worship with Chris Tomlin, as well as listening to the audiobook 4 times and shedding a lot of tears, I can say I highly recommend this book! And if you love Chris's music, this book offers insight into the reasons behind some of his best songs, which gives even more meaning to his music. It's truly a must-read for all Chris Tomlin fans! I highly recommend!

Thank you, Chris, for sharing your God-given talent with the world as a worship singer and now as an author!

I loved the book “How great is our God living a worship led life in a me centered world. ” that just came out. I loved each day and the stories that reflected living a worship led life and the sing with me section puts it all together with a time to worship. The questions at the end were great and made me reflect well. This book came out at the perfect time with things going on in my life to draw me back to focusing on the Lord with a heart of worship. Love this book and would highly recommend it to everyone.

I LOVED this book! I was blessed to be part of the launch team and read the book early. This book is for all who want to grow deeper in their faith and walk with Jesus. Chris does a phenomenal job showing us what a worship-lead life is in a “me driven” society. I loved how he connected his personal experiences and his own music and lyrics to tie it all together! I would recommend this book to EVERYONE, including those who don’t yet know Jesus and want to learn about him and to KNOW him!

I was intrigued when I saw that Chris Tomlin had written a book, but I pulled the trigger on this when I saw that J.D. Walt was involved. I am familiar with Walt because I have been a regular reader of Seedbed’s “Wake Up Call,” and I have to say I could see Walt’s fingerprints all over this book, which is not a bad thing at all. Thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end, and found it to be extremely insightful and inspiring. I have already been recommending it to others. 5 stars!

This is a daily devotional, which I didn't realize when picking it up. I really liked the framework of each devotion and the way Tomlin ties in so much music - his own, obviously, but other worship artists as well. I gained a lot of respect for him as a worship leader and a song writer and a believer through the course of this book and was challenged in my walk with the Lord, in living a worship-led life, and as a worship leader.

Disclaimer: This book is designed to be read 'daily devotional' style but I just read through the whole thing. I enjoyed the reflections in this story and some of the stories behind Chris's songs.

Wonderful inspiring book

Loved this devotional book. The insight into songs that I love to sing, made the scriptures they are based one come alive. Thank you Chris for hearing the songs of heaven and getting them out to body of Christ.

I chose the Audible version and just couldn't get into it. In my opinion, the narrator just didn't match Chris' enthusiasm or tone and unfortunately that's all I could take from it. I may grab the paperback & give it a try as many seem to love it.

This is a book that can be read a chapter at a time as a devotional or as a regular read. The theology isn’t super deep but the scripture is solid and applicable so that new and old believers can both gain some naught from the book.

Apart from a couple of typos in places, I've thoroughly enjoyed the last 21 days. It's not just about reading the book either but also being inspired and hearing about the context to some of Chris Tomlin's more well known songs.

This is a great book. The author clearly saw Jesus as he wrote the book. If I could give this book 10 stars I would do that. It is fantastic and we see Chris's heart as he writes. As I read the book, I saw Jesus in each chapter and worshipped at the end of each chapter as I sang with Chris and answered the heart and thought provoking questions.

The author seeks to help the reader live a worship led life and that goal is accomplished in this book. Buy the book for yourself and then purchase a copy for every worship leader you know and every person who wants to be a worship leader. Recommend it to everyone else.
