The first Western adventure in a brand new series!
Elias Stirling reads an article in a St. Louis newspaper that stirs his barely-contained desire to get away from the grist mill in Buffalo Lick, MO, where he has labored for years. The article tells him about free land available for settlers in the new Republic of Texas. His thoughts of building a cattle ranch in Texas consume him.
Eventually, he convinces his two sons and their families to make the move with him. Several of his neighbors decide they want a change, too, but they have no idea of the difficulties moving from Missouri to Texas will bring.
In addition to the stresses of travel, Elias and the rest will deal with issues they bring with them—issues that many families have to handle from time to time, but which make their trip all the more challenging.
After a grueling two months on the trail, they get to the Guadalupe River north of San Antonio, Texas. But is the end of their trials or only the beginning?
Regardless of your reading preferences I assure you will enjoy riding along on this trip to paradise
Another five sensation by Mr. Winkle, as his detailed storylines will definitely keep you turning pages to see what excitement will occur next in these dedicated individuals will to succeed! Some of the most endearing storylines I have had the opportunity to read, and I have read a few over the years! Just one endeavor after the other, as these dedicated individuals pulls no punches in their efforts to claim land in Texas! Too, the Author's uncanny ability in character selections are perfectly selected for their respective assignments from beginning to end! Definitely recommend this compassionately dedicated group of individuals, and their ongoing encounters, to all readers, as they will certainly keep you turning pages to see what the next encounter might entail! Try it! You'll love it, from beginning to end, regardless of you reading preferences!!!😃
A Grist Mill owner wants to stop working his grandfather’s and father’s dream of doing back breaking work as a Milner. Don’t blame him. He reads an article in a newspaper about free land given to settlers to help build Texas. Love Elias the father and his new wife, Abigail—need to know the sons better. Wives in this story are a little on the weak and snotty side. I hope they prove up later in the story. Plenty of adventures on the way. Glad Albert proves to be a friend so far. Hope some of these family members buck up and become strong pioneers.
Mildly interesting but all the characters were quite shallow with the exception of Elias the main character. It was a small wagon train so you would think to see more interactions among the players but it seemed they started out stranger and ended that way. Even the family was glossed over. Elias's daughter Grace was mentioned once. I don't think his grandchildren were mentioned at all. It was almost like a story outline.
However it's an interesting premise so I'll give book 2 a whirl.
I read all four of the books in this series. The first three of these seem to have been written by one guy, the last one by someone else to complete the story. Sadly, they were all pretty bad – very wooden, flat characters, and poorly edited with grammatical mistakes throughout… but there is a lot of action, so I guess if you're a guy, you might like it. They're all very short, so at least there isn't a huge time investment.
Home to Texas is an engaging story with a true-life setting well described. I had a small issue with the author leaving some blanks in the character development and seeming to skim over some of the action. Perhaps putting a bit more detail in a longer book would fix these issues.
Gone To Texas: A Western Adventure Novel (The Stirling Family Saga Book 1)
This was a wonderful story and I loved it! Definitely a must read, for excitement galore throughout this book and series! So much action and lots of mysteries solved, lots of drama and lots of action packed scenes! So don't miss this one, but you don't have to believe me, just read and enjoy!🌬📚🤠🐝🎶
To me, this was a new slant that I didn't know before about the early settlement of Texas. Well, I guess I had known about it, but I wasn't aware of any of the details. It is a delightful read when a great and exciting story also includes some important facts. You must resd this one.
As a family they decide to sell the Mill in Missouri and move to Texas, the Father marries right before they leave. 10 wagons start out and o my 8 arrives and you will never believe who is there to greet them.
This was a very good Book, that really enjoyed reading. Lot of action and suspense, along wth many hard ships for those brave Settlers. Really hope there are several more Books in this Series!!
Love books and stories about Texas as I was born and raised in Texas and live here again. This storyline is about the settling of the new Texas Republic and the hardships that settling entails. Look forward to the next installment but hope it gets more exciting.
The Stirling family reach Texas, after about 700 miles of river crossings, storms, bandits, thieves, and discomfort. They now have three years to improve the land and become Texans.
As a native Texan I enjoy reading about the people who came west to settle in Texas This book had enough fact mixed with fiction to make it a good read.
Thank you for writing this book. I can imagine being with these people as they make their way. I appreciate their struggles. Look for to continuing with their journey
