SPOILER ALERT. The first book was fine, even good but the second, my good. It seems like the author forgot many things
Like In the first book there is a reference about magic and powers but in the whole series they didn't use their so called magic, even if they are fighting the enemy 😭 like they are fae and vampire, my god
This book has a so called god 😂 which that basic villain can overpower
FMC's cousin died- why, how, when nothing
And the FMC had a sister she didn't even know about who was married to the MMC again nothing cleared.
And communication between the main characters about their problems, what's that.

Overall, I still love these characters and the potential was there, but this one was kind of a let down after book one tbh. The pacing just felt off for me more than anything. It was really slow going until about 40% and then we got some big reveals that didn’t really make sense, and honestly felt random. Idk. I still had fun reading this, because Amber does have a really great writing style, but I definitely liked book one more 😭

Had the pleasure of reading this as an ARC and …This is hands down one of my favorite duos of all time. This book had me on an emotional roller coaster! This story deals with heavy themes of suicidal thoughts, death, grief, childhood torture and trauma and IT IS SO WELL WRITTEN! It’s incredibly emotional 😭 and dark and moody and perfect!

The god lore is perfect and adds so much to the storyline! The way this wraps up every character’s story PERFECTLY!!!! Ahhh 😱 I was screaming at the end scenes! Screaming at the big reveal in the middle! Screaming at all the clues dropped along the way! I just loved this book and duo as a whole!

Can’t recommend you read it enough! If you like spicy vampire, Fae, murder mystery with crazy plot, twists, and turns and the best Romeo and Juliet vibes I’ve ever read… read this!

Don’t know what happened here, I just wasn’t invested in the story as I was in the first book. Calia kinda reappeared after 40% and everything was happening so fast. I felt like the stakes were not high enough for the storyline, instead they were fighting this powerless character, that they could’ve just poisoned at the wedding. The secrets were immediately forgotten and that was that. I was trying to like it, because I loved the first one and the change was nice, but Rion just felt like a very bland character with bothing in his head to the one we got in the first book. Don’t get me wrong I loved the chemistry in the first book but feel like we got robbed of a better story here.

I can't really do this review without spoilers, so beware if you don't want to be spoiled!

I reread the review I wrote for The Night Runs Red and I said I loved that the last chapter was in Rion's POV. It's doing something to my brain that The Day Burns Bright was all Rion, until the last chapter which was in Calia's POV. I just love this symmetry and it gave the perfect giddy feeling of completeness when I turned the last page.

I was gobsmacked by how book one ended and was anxious for answers as soon as I started reading this. Calia couldn't be dead! I was instantly pulled into Rion's sadness and hopelessness. He seemed like such a cold, hard figure in book one, but I knew he had more layers to him. Learning more about his past with his mother, how he was abused and manipulated, a lot of his actions make a lot more sense. My heart was being ripped to shreds as he grappled with Calia's loss, the woman who was slowing saving him and giving him hope for a better future. And then when she did come back, he was still alone because she wanted nothing to do with him. Just so much angst!

A hidden gem for me was Jasper. I didn't really like Jasper previously, but my respect for him increased ten-fold as he did everything within his power to pull Rion back from the ledge. Jasper is a true example of a good brother and friend. When all Rion wanted to do was let go and fade into oblivion, Jasper was his rock, for Rion to hit and smash and lean on. And he had been for all of their lives. Their relationship really touched me.

Even though I was anxious for Calia to come back somehow, I do appreciate that most of this book was dedicated to Rion and exploring his demons. Having book one focus mainly on Calia and book two on Rion gave me a chance to appreciate both of them as individuals and the journey they went on before they came together.

This was just a really great conclusion to the duology and all the questions I had were answered. I do wonder if there will be a spin off with Jasper and his maybe relationships with Sloane and Rowena. That would be interesting.

Thank you to the author for allowing me to read this ARC! I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Let me just say I loved that this book was in Rion’s POV. I loved him.

There are spoilers.

Why did it take two Vampires to carry one man? Do they not have super strength? And why torture the man if they have compulsion. They’re talking about not having a lot of time YET THEY CHOSE TO TORTURE. Lol it made no sense to me.

I loved the conversation between Rion and Jasper about their childhood. I loved that Rion and Rowena grew closer.

I obviously knew that Calia was either not really dead or came back but making her a Demigod felt like too far of a reach. Making her father a god was even farther. Letting a vampire and a lone witch be able to hurt and control them that way was out of this universe. My mind was blowwwwwwnnnnnnnn. Like they’re gods yet have no powers? Lios stated multiple times that the gods would make sure there were consequences. HE WAS A GOD!

Rion being able to sit with his father and have the closer he needed from him hit me hard. I was full on bawling. Probably one of the best parts of the books.

While I loved the books, I would have loved them more if they were just a regular romance. The fantasy wasn’t there. It just wasn’t hitting for me. But I loved Rion.

Congrats Amber for once again getting me all up in my feels, and thank you so much for letting me be a part of your ARC team!

THE DAY BURNS BRIGHT is the conclusion to the Wicked Dark Duology, and gosh does it drag you through your emotions.

Told completely from Rion's POV we witness his inner thoughts from the aftermath of the events of TNRR. Amber's books always feature characters mental health fiercely and this was no different. Honestly Amber kudos to you because it's gotta be HARD to write through it at times, and it HITS when we read it.

I can't give too many details without giving key plots away but I swear I spent so much of this book stressing about a certain possibility and then I spent well all of it deep in Rion's feels.

The holding place HAD ME and I'm not sure I've gotten out of there yet ❤️

The ending was absolutely perfect and just overall best conclusion to this series ❤️

✨ ARC REVIEW✨
📖: The Day Burns Bright (Book 2 in the Wicked Dark Duology) by @amberpalmerauthor

Rion and Calia were duty-bound to marry because of an ancient curse. What started as an arranged marriage between two rival species slowly turned into something more…until dangerous secrets were unveiled and painful truths unearthed. Were they doomed from the start?

"𝘒𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘮𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘧𝘦'𝘴 𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧*𝘤𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩."
“𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘣𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴, 𝘢𝘴 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘳𝘢𝘯 𝘳𝘦𝘥. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘥𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘣𝘶𝘳𝘯 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵”

Following the events of the first book, Rion seeks answers and retribution for what he’s lost. The single POV narrative walks us through our tortured hero’s self-loathing, regrets, and desperation for redemption.

Our characters are slowly healing and this found family’s unwavering support and devotion to each other was EVERYTHING. I loved a new sassy character introduced and can I say I’m shipping them and Jasper hard? 👀

Once again, I found myself captivated by the heartbreakingly haunting story Amber crafted and shook by the twists and reveals! I’m so invested in these characters and my heart was put through the ringer - sadness, rage, elation, and so much heartache. But my heart was made whole again as their story reached a beautiful and sublime conclusion 🤌

In The Day Burns Bright, Amber delivers a masterful portrayal of grief, betrayal, and an all-consuming love that persists beyond reason, fear, and fate itself. This stunning paranormal Romeo & Juliet story will be living rent free in my head for the foreseeable future ✌️

So grateful to Amber Palmer for the opportunity to read this ARC! This is my honest and voluntary review

*thank you for the ARC in exchange for an honest review*

I wanted so bad to love it, but I think I just wasn’t the right target market for this one!

This book is perfect for people who like:
🩸All male POV
🩸dark themes (mental struggles)
🩸groveling to make up for mistakes
🩸found family/alliances > family by blood
🩸possessive husband on a vengeance

[being vague to keep things spoiler free]
I would’ve love to see the first 30-40% condensed into 15-20% max, it took just a little too long for the ball to get rolling for me to feel as invested in the story. And it may have just been too long since I read book one, but the main twist of the story I had a hard time aligning with the POV from the first book so it felt a little out of the blue to me. However, info revealed about Rion’s backstory really made me care about him WAY more than book 1 and gives great insight to his behavior and intentions!

One thing that Amber always EXCELS at is dribbling in a teaser for side character relationships and I think she nailed that again in this duology. Not only Rion’s relationship with his friends, but also their interaction with each other was awesome and just the right amount of it was included.

Amber Palmer ripped our hearts out in book one….just so that she could continue to rip our hearts out in book two, don’t get me wrong Palmer eventually patches us back up but boy oh boy was I wary of how we might achieve that ever allusive HEA! All that said I absolutely adored this book, truly I adored this series! There’s literally nothing better than a grumpy/sunshine, vampire/fae, romance that’s stuffed to the brim with betrayal, found families, hilarious banter, and of course a delicious amount of spice! So if all of that sounds good to you than do not miss out on Amber Palmers Wicked Dark Duet!

Potential Spoilers for The Night Burns Red in the following review! If you haven’t read book 1 please do that first!

After the tragic ending of The Night Burns Red we pick off literally where Palmer left our hearts bleeding on the floor! This time though we get to see through the stoic and grumpy Rions eyes. Which made me love him even more than I did in book one. In book one Rion was such a mystery, cloaked in a grumpy blanket. In this book though we get to see just how swiftly he would let himself and the world burn for Calia. I just loved getting to see things from his POV, how much he loved Calia, how much he cared for those he chose as his family, but also just how dark he was and just how far he was willing to let that darkness consume him to protect those he had claimed whether in love or family. I don’t want to spoil anything about this book but I will say if you loved book 1 than The Day Burns Bright is a MUST READ. And if you haven’t read book 1 yet than the whole series is a must read!

Overall, if you’re looking for a grumpy/sunshine romantasy that will sweep you off your feet, filled with spice, found family, heartbreak, and a HEA that will leave you breathless than this the book for you!

HAPPY READING 📖

Okay buckle in fellow weirdos, it's time for vibes. And they are IMMACULATE. Okay going in, if you haven't read the first book in this duology, The Night Runs Red, what are you even doing. That book gave me life in a slumpy time last year, and I have been WAITING for this one. Amber was kind enough to send me an arc and let me just say, after this duology I will never not request an arc and also preorder because REASONS.

Okay now, it should just be those of us who read book one already, but I'm still keeping this spoiler free and heavy on vibes. Wish me luck.

First of all, I need to lead with the fact that I'm really not a crier. SJM consistently makes me cry with her representation of mental health, but other than that? I'm a cold-hearted beezy. This book? I cried on page one. I cried on page two. I CRIED FOR SO MUCH OF THIS BOOK. The representation of grief and trauma across the board is so visceral. I've been personally victimized, and yes I've had lots of therapy thank you for asking.

This book isn't all tears though. Rion continues to be my sweet trauma baby, and we get so much of why he is the way he is, but his background is told organically, so it's not just an infodump. I really loved seeing this character unfold.

We also got a new gang member! Sloane had me cackling immediately and I knew I was going to love her as soon as she sassed Rion. She was the shock to the system right when we needed it, and I think every book needs a stray punk to roll in and call everyone out!

I'm shying away from saying more because I would love to spoil so many things, but I'll close out with this: this book is going to tear your heart out, but Amber wouldn't leave us hanging, and I can't WAIT to see what she does next!

She was the gentle breeze ruffling my hair on a balmy summer’s night. A lover’s kiss to chase away the demons playing in the dark recesses of my mind. A steady heartbeat thrumming in my chest, keeping me from letting go entirely. She was everything.

5 stars!

Wow. I did not expect to love this duology as much as I did, and I was not ready for the way Amber completely ripped my heart out and set it on fire. This story was beautifully written with angst and unrequited longing weaved throughout, but ultimately this is a love story between two souls looking for a place to belong.

If THE NIGHT RUNS RED was Twilight-inspired, then THE DAY BURNS BRIGHT is Midnight Sun--a chance for Rion to share his side of the story. In book one, the Rion we meet is closed off and arrogant with small glimpse of vulnerability, so I was excited to read his POV. My heart broke for his fatalistic and grief-stricken state. This book is not for the faint of heart as Rion seems resigned to and even hoping for his death after he is forced to face the aftermath of his mother's actions. But seeing his determination for forgiveness was amazing, and I loved watching his soul slowly heal. I cannot express how much I loved this duet as I devoured both books back-to-back, and I look forward to more books from Amber🖤

Tropes: hate-to-love-you, enemies-to-lovers, arranged marriage, morally grey hero, heroine-in-danger, 'touch her and die' vibes, political intrigue, hidden identity, 'who did this to you' vibes, Twilight retelling, forbidden-love, slow burn, STEAMY🔥

TW: depression, suicidal thoughts, child abuse, violence/gore, death

🩸 Despite the pain, I would not stop, for if she would not survive this night, then let it be my end as well.

✨Oh my aching heart ❤️‍🩹I finished The Day Burns Bright, book two in The Wicked Dark Duology by Amber Palmer and the ending was everything my tattered soul wanted and absolutely needed! I loved this epic conclusion to Calia and Rion’s story and had all the feels along the way❤️

🩸From the moment the story began, I honestly felt like I was riding one emotional edge or another. I cried, I teared up, and I cried some more. The grief, regret, longing all reached out and ripped at my heart for all that these characters experienced.

✨The plot was amazing, faster paced but well balanced, and kept me fully engaged. I love the expanded world building that we got in this second book and the character development we saw from both MC’s!

🩸The historical contexts further explored and discovered, and the introduction of new, well developed, and pivotal side characters was incredible!

✨The pain, the angst in this book, it completely shredded me. And experiencing this all from Rion’s POV was everything.

✨Paranormal Romance
✨Vampires, Fae, and Witches
✨Found Family
✨Tortured Hero
✨Slow Burn
✨ANGST

🩸My most genuine and sincere thanks to Amber Palmer for having me on your ARC team! I love Calia and Rion forever!

Thank you, to the author for gifting me an eArc in exchange for an honest review.

Vampyres, Fae a curse that bounds each other together. Romeo and Julia inspired - enemies (ish) to lovers romantasy Duology, sounds interesting?

Well it is, and if that sounds like something you might like - check out the Wicked Dark Duology by Amber Palmer!
The second book was released yesterday, and I can't wait for everyone to read the finale on this duology.

I can't tell you too much about the story of the second book, because almost everything would be a spoiler, so let me tell you how I felt and the vibes. While, The Night Runs Red told us the story from Calia's POV the second book is all about Rion. I really loved to be inside his head, even if the grief drives him almost mad. But not only that he has to face the things he has to endure as a child, through his mother's hands and his main focus now is to get revenge and stop her.  Also excepting help, and letting others show you, that you're worth good things or love, you could feel how he struggled.  He also gets some unexpected help 😉.

I felt lost and sad with Rion, and sometimes helpless to whether this will find a good ending or not. And I'm all here for that, I love it when authors can make me feel the same I assume the characters in the books are feeling. I don't like to be characters being miserable while I can see that everything will be ok.

What to expect:
- Romeo and Juliet inspired
- Touch her and die vibes
- Found family
- Tortured “hero”
- Redemption
- Enemies-to-Lovers

I received an ARC but all thoughts are my own.

This was such a great Duology! The twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat. And I was legit stressed out for the last few parts of the book. That's how you know a story has it's claws in you!

“Calia was stitched into the fabric of who I was.
I would know her anywhere—in any moment, at any time, in any life.”

This man. Rion is such a solid MMC. He has his issues but really wants to try and be better. To be the person who would make his father proud. I could feel his heartbreak during this book 100% and I just wanted to give him a hug. And I love that this book was from his POV. It made connecting with him that much easier.

Calia, I have such mixed feelings on her because I just wanted her to forgive Rion but I know they had issues to work through. But when she took on his mother?! Whew. That was amazing! I think she's a solid partner for Rion once they talk everything out and can just breathe for a minute.

I loved that the epilogue was years later, and not just a few months. I'm a sucker for those. Jasper is such a great friend and I love his bromance with Rion. I hope he gets his own book! It would be an interesting one, that's for sure.

I don't even know where to begin with this review. This book was everything and more!!
I couldn't stop reading, the "one more chapter" thing was so real because I kept saying it and by the time I noticed, I was on the epilogue.
The story continued where book 1 ended and those first chapters KILLED ME!!!!! But they were also beautiful in a heartbreaking kind of way. I loved that we got to see the characters grow, heal and find their own happiness.
The day burns bright was hard, sweet, had me crying in my bed, screaming, laughing, all of it.
I GO F E R A L FOR RION, 0K? OK.
CALIA MY QUEEN.

PS. The epilogue had me crying (again) from ALL THE FEELS!!!!!

Thank you so much Amber to let me be part of your ARC team, I am so grateful and congrats on creating such an emotional and incredible story!

"Why was it so easy to offer kindness to others and so arduous to extend the same to yourself?"

"The sun was nothing compared to the warmth I felt radiating from my wife’s embrace—the way she coaxed my darkness to the surface and soothed the anxious beast beneath my skin."

“Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth.”

Where do I even begin?

Amber has stabbed my heart repeatedly and then slowly stitched it back together. Just like all of Amber’s books, The Day Burns Bright had me in its grasp. It made me gasp out loud, tear up, and swoon. I think at this rate, Amber should pay for my therapy with all the torment.

This book starts with the aftermath of book one. Immediately, it’s heartbreaking and I just wanted to comfort Rion. I was all in my feelings right there with him. His character is so tortured and defeated but his love for Calia is so strong and so perfect and it keeps him going. This book had so many twists and turns that kept his head swiveling. By the end of the book, his character became whole again.

The side characters in this book were perfect! They thoroughly made me laugh out loud while I was working. Also, thank you Amber for not pulling another Kalen (Darkness and Fire series) because I would’ve been in your messages ASAP!

I absolutely loved this book and while I hate that it’s over, I’m so glad that it’s complete because I don’t know if I can handle any more damage. This duet is so good and I truly recommend reading it! You will not be disappointed!

Thank you to Amber for providing me with an advanced review copy!

Book 1 left us on quite a large cliff hanger so I was pleased we jumped straight back into where things were left in book 1. Witnessing the aftermath of those events and getting through those first few chapters pulled at my heart strings so bad! I knew there was much more to Rion than we had seen in book 1 so I was pleased we got to see more of him via his POV, but was equally heartbroken to find out about his upbringing and why he is so closed off.

But the plot moves on quite quickly and we get caught up in all the twists and turns, poor Rion (and I) didn’t seem to get a moment of peace! It’s not often that characters experience a bit of closure so I loved that Rion was able to get some of that for himself. There were so many revelations and betrayals that came to light I could not put this down and devoured it in one day!

Things I loved about The Day Burns Bright
🩸Touch her & you 💀 vibes were back in full force
🩸Rion’s cute attachment to the pink hairband!
🩸Spicy scenes
🩸The introduction of sassy Sloane and the chemistry between her and Jasper! Plus, did anyone else notice a moment between them AND Rowena?? I see a FMF situation unfolding….

On one hand I’m pleased at how great this was but equally sad because it’s the last book in the duology!

✨🖤✨The Day Burns Bright ✨🖤✨

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
🌶️🌶️

🍾🍾🍾 RELEASES MAY 1ST 🍾🍾🍾

This book WRECKED me. The emotional turmoil was so well written. The focus on mental health and grief had me in tears. Rion's pain was palpable and the rage he had broke my heart. I adored the found family aspect and Jasper is a true gem. The way he stepped up and offered support was so sweet. PLEASE tell me there's going to be more from him and a few others?? I'm too emotionally invested now to say goodbye to this world completely.

The twists this story took kept me on my toes and had me hooked. I thought I had an idea in my brain of what may happen and then was completely shocked as the truth came to light. I love a solid plot twist that's unexpected.

This is the final book in the Wicked Dark Duet and while I'm sad to say goodbye (hopefully only for now) this was such an excellent and satisfying ending.

"Because living in a world where Calia D’Arcy no longer breathed was a fate worse than death."

"But if I was to die like this? Suffocated with her release on my tongue? Fuck… I would go happily."

“You will not talk to my fucking wife like that.”

Rion D’Arcy! Sir, you more than redeemed yourself! I adore you now. I don’t think I have ever read 300 pages in a day until now. I started this book right after finishing the first because I just couldn’t set it down and the next day I picked it up thinking I would read 150 max because I never usually read more than that, but I finished the last 300 pages instead. If you are in a slump like I was (am?) or just looking for a really duology, this may be for you. I ate these books up. I just want to know wtf is going on. You think one thing but then it’s something else that just doesn’t make sense and I love the confusion. Also Amber Palmer… what do you mean “The end…. For now.”?????? Are we getting more content of these two? Or other characters from this book? Maybe Jasper, Rowena, and Sloane???? Because I need more information ASAP!

The sequel and finale to The Night Runs Red follows Rion in his POV and the aftermath post Calia swan-diving out the window.

This book did a few things really well and one of those was having the MMC single pov through the entirety of the book, something not really seen in fantasy romances.

The second thing was the portrayal of mental health, especially men's mental health, and all that entails in dealing with unresolved trauma.

And lastly, a years later epilogue, which I absolutely love for that post plot closure and seeing what characters are up to. I love that there was a HEA when I wasn't expecting it since it's a Romeo and Juliet reimagining.

I'm looking forward to Amber's spin off's. I can absolutely see a potential throuple in the mix whose story I'd like to see evolve.

I received an arc and this is my honest review.

I don't know how to write this without giving anything away. If I already didn't love Rion I definitely loved him in this one. He went through so much in this book. There are so many parts to this book that it kept my attention. I loved the surprise shock the author placed in this one. I also really enjoyed the relationships that were brought to life. I enjoyed meeting Sloane in this story as well. I think she brought a great element to the story. I really enjoyed learning more of the characters pasts. I almost teared up a few times reading this. The way the duology ended was absolutely perfect. I feel like I wasn't questioning what happens next. I thoroughly enjoyed how certain things were given to Rion. I feel as though he needed those situations to happen to make him a better man. This was one of my favorite stories to read. The beauty of this one will stick with me.

What an absolutely wild ride! I had no idea where Amber was going to take the second book in this duet after the ending of the first, but damn this book delivered.

The emotional trauma in this book comes in spades but it is handled with such care, and holds such pertinence that you can’t help but feel moved by these characters.

You feel Rion’s broken heart and his absolute need and hunger for revenge, and it is so interesting to see how this plays out and the development the story undergoes.

If you’re looking for a book with a huge amount of hurt and healing then this book is for you. The tension in this book is palpable and builds until you get one hell of an action packed ending.

Despite feeling that this was a wonderful conclusion to the duet, I still have some unanswered questions and I am excited to see if and where Amber takes this universe next.
