This is my 4th book by Emma Robinson and as always, I was engaged from the very page. This book does have a very high level of Covid which could be a trigger for some people but to me, I just went with it. I liked the characters and the storyline. Personally I wish Covid wasn’t the main source in the book but I felt like it was and we’ve all lived enough of it. Again, just my opinion! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this advance copy in exchange for my honest review. To be published March 26, 2024.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC (Advance Reader Copy) of She Has My Child by Emma Robinson. Wow, to read about Covid seemed almost nostalgic. I found the book very engaging and it kept my interest. It was a domestic drama between sisters. It was quite an emotional book and very realistic. It is the first book that I have read by this author and I will look for others by her. I would recommend this tear jerker to others. A 4 star rating.
I was so nervous and stressed out reading. I knew there would be issues but I didn’t know all the stuff Robinson would make her characters endure. I should have known Robinson would make me work for it and she did. I worried about Megan and Susan and Megan and Mark. I wondered at the past secrets and I guessed about one. I thought all the emotions the characters experienced were valid and realistic, I even had some of the same thoughts as some of them vocalized. It’s a great story about choices, bonding, truth, and making the best decisions. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the early read.
She Has My Child by Emma Robinson is a multi-layered domestic drama about the relationship between two sisters, and the lengths that one will go to for the love of family. This is an author who can always be relied upon to pack an emotional punch, and her latest deals an absolute wallop.
Megan is desperate for a child of her own and when it doesn't happen for her and husband Mark, it feels like a cruel betrayal. So when her older sister Sophie steps in to offer herself as a surrogate, it seems that Megan's dreams of a baby might finally be within reach. The sisters have a lot of healing to do with regard to their own relationship, and surely this gift that Sophie is offering will make things right with the younger sister she abandoned so long ago. But nothing is without consequence, and Sophie and Megan will be tested in entirely new ways that will have each questioning her own choices, and redefining the meaning of family.
This is an engaging, thought-provoking read that you are sure to devour in a single gulp. Emma Robinson knows her craft, and always produces such beautiful narratives that get to the very heart of human emotion and empathy. 4.5 stars
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.
A powerful story of sisters, grief, loss and surrogacy.
In this book we meet Megan and her husband Mark, they have been trying for a baby for a long time. Unfortunately Megan is unable to carry a child to term. Step in her Sister Sophia, who offers to be a surrogate. Megan and Sophia have been estranged for many years. 19 year old Sophia left home when Megan was 12;and didn’t return until recently when Megan managed to trace her to let her know their mother was ill.
Sophia returned and spent the last few months of their mother’s life living with Megan, she learned how hard things had been for Megan since she had left and promised her mother she would look after Megan.
When she finds out Megan is unable to carry a child, she immediately offers to be her Surrogate. Mark is understandably concerned as they’ve not long been reunited. Is this the right decision for their family.
Set at the beginning of 2020, Sophia is pregnant and they’ve discovered she’s carrying a little girl, Megan is delighted but worried something will go wrong, Mark seems less excited, It is agreed that Sophia will come to live with them in the last month of pregnancy so Megan can be there for the birth, however events are suddenly changed as the world enters lockdown. Sophia is stuck in Italy, and Megan and Mark are in the UK. Things are slowly falling apart for Megan, will she get the happy ending she has longed for for so long.
This was a difficult read, as I felt so many of the emotions felt by both Megan and Sophia, my heart ached for them both and I kept my fingers crossed things would work out. I guessed some but not all of the secrets they all kept from each other
First, I want to thank Emma Robinson, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.
Warning: Emma Robinson is going to pull on your heart strings hard with her latest tearjerker She Has My Child! She had me reaching for the tissues within the first few paragraphs. Then again it wouldn’t be an Emma book without the ugly cry!
Emma and her editor Susannah were both creative geniuses to place this story during Covid. Many other authors have not even touched on this subject. I enjoyed reading how the characters were affected by and how they dealt with the lockdown.
Emma explored the bond of sisterhood and at what lengths they would go for each other. Having two sisters of my own I appreciated this story. My sisters and I may not see eye to eye all the time but there is nothing I wouldn’t do for them. Just like in She Has My Child.
I was totally blown away and stunned at the huge twist in the story about Mark. I absolutely loved the revelation of his deep dark secret.
Emma packed some very sweet heartfelt moments, twists and turns, family drama, and secrets into the mix.
She Has My Child needs to be put on the top of your TBR list! It is a 5 star must read book that every reader will be talking about. Infact, this book would be great for a book club or discussion group as there is so much to discuss.

Megan and Mark have been have been wanted to start a family but it hasn’t happened yet. However, Megan’s dreams may now happen as her older sister Sophie offers to be a surrogate, The sisters have never been close as Sophie left home when Megan was only twelve.
The cover hints – perhaps Sophie cannot be trusted. So I wasn’t sure this was going to have a happy ending What recourse would Megan have if Sophie decides to keep the baby?
While all this is going on Covid restrictions separate everyone and is especially difficult as Megan wants to be available when Sophie delivers the baby.
I had mixed emotions in reading this I feared Megan was doing to get hurt and knew I would be hurt as well- yet I couldn’t put it down. I read a lot of thrillers and there is always a “Big Reveal’ well there are big reveals in this story as well. But I not going to it spoil this as I believe ‘you’ will enjoy this and need to read this story!
This author is new to me so I read her short – About the Author Bio ~ ~Emma Robinson is a USA Today Bestseller with a passion for stories which explore the power of family and friendship in the most challenging circumstances. This was my first (author: Emma Robinson] and I will definitely read another .
Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this early eGalley. Publishing Release Date scheduled for March 26. 2024..
When the next book on my list is one written by this author, I know I need to do some preparations first. This means that I will put my phone on silent, lock the door and keep a box of tissues handy. I so know I will be in for a wonderful, but very emotional story and I will shed a few bucket loads of tears before the final sentence has been read.
And yes, she had done it again. No, tears don't always mean sadness or only sadness at least. Lots of emotions can bring tears to my eyes and although I went through a whole selection of emotions, the tears were never far away. Happy and sad tears alternated while my warm feelings gushed through me or my heart broke a little.
This is a story about two sisters loosing each other and the way back to each other is a long and winding one, but where there is a will there is a way even though it's not always paved with roses..
I loved the way they each found their way in life whilst climbing a few mountains to achieve that. 5 stars
Drop everything and settle down with the latest heartwarming novel from Emma Robinson. I've loved every book she has written. This book is no exception, I read it flat through in one afternoon which feels a bit of a disservice after all the work that goes into writing a bestseller but it was so good I couldn't put it down. She writes about relatable issues that many women go through and if you're lucky or unlucky enough to have these issues then at times you may feel as though your heart will break as you devour the chapters. But Emma writes empathetically and with compassion. I'm grateful to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this advanced copy, my opinions are my own and not expected
This book definitely tugged at the heart strings! I truly felt for Megan, Sophia, and everything they were going through. I know not everyone likes stories that include Covid, but I thought it worked well to make things harder for their surrogacy. Not exactly my cup of tea but I enjoyed reading it and liked the switching POVs.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
This was my second Emma Robinson book. My first was “My Husbands Daughter” which I also recommend! Emma has an incredible way of capturing the emotions in her characters, in a way that makes you feel what they are. This was a wonderfully written, easy read!
'She has my child' has Emma Robinson's signature likeable/realistic characters and also a cracking, page-turning plot. Potential readers might worry about the prospect of a covid storyline - no need! It is the closure of international borders that it is the issue here - and the heart-breaking effects it has on two sisters in two different countries - one who is carrying a baby for the other. I enjoyed all the psychological insights into these siblings, their desire to reconnect, but their fears too. It was beautifully done and so were their other relationships. I also love Emma's phrasing which is often light and witty yet thought-provoking - she's especially good on parenting I think. As for the resolution, Emma is the master of the ending which feels surprising yet perfectly inevitable! That's a lot of words to say, I loved it.
Master storyteller Emma Robinson returns following Please Take My Baby with SHE HAS MY CHILD —an astonishing novel— two sisters, a baby, a pandemic, secrets, a family torn apart with powerful and emotional choices that could alter the lives of more than one.
Bittersweet and emotionally intense novel. Heartbreaking, compelling, captivating, and moving! A powerful page-turner of motherhood, sisters, self-discovery, and family.
Megan and Mark are married, and Megan desperately wants a child, preferring to have a biological child rather than adopt. She is unable to conceive due to her past illness.
Her big sister, Sophia, agrees to be the surrogate. To carry her baby for her. Two days after their mom's funeral, when Megan's world had become dark, Sophia had been the light, the hope, the lifeline she needed.
Mark had reservations, and Megan was uncertain that Sophia would stay true to her word and come through for them. Megan has never forgiven her sister for leaving her and her mother as a teen. She has not heard from her in over twenty years. Does she really know her sister, and can she trust her?
At age twelve, Megan had a severe eating disorder as a way to cope with her sister leaving. They were seven years apart. However, things were not as they appeared.
Sophia is pregnant and carrying Megan's baby. Everything is planned and thought out. Megan is very detailed and likes things controlled. However, when COVID surfaced, the world turned upside down. What did the lockdown mean for Sophia and the baby?
Megan had been led to believe Sophia had abandoned her but it turns out there was a reason her mother had kept from them. This changes everything. Now Sophia is trying to make amends by carrying her child, giving her the most precious thing in her life - motherhood. She could help bring her the happiness she deserved. Now, they are torn apart once again.
Told from POVs Sophia and Megan, we hear both sides of the story. Their well-laid plans become a nightmare when the world shuts down amid a pandemic with heart-pounding decisions. Now they are apart. Sophia and Megan are forced to reevaluate events from the past and through each other's eyes.
Megan is distraught as she cannot be there for her baby's birth as planned. Plus, she risks Sophia getting too close, emotionally invested, to the baby.
Due to the stress of the two sisters and baby being apart and another disaster happening in Megan's life that rocks her world and stability, Sophie is worried her sister will spiral out of control with her eating disorder. Will she be able to cope?
All the while, Sophia is bonding and falling in love with the baby, and her partner, Richard, does not want to be tied to a child. Megan is now worried her sister will keep her baby. What rights does she have? Her world is falling apart. She had begged her sister not to return to Italy so she could be here, but now they cannot travel.
Sophia, was angry at being called selfish when she was carrying her sister's child but filled with guilt that she left. Megan has to find a way to get to Italy and bring her baby home. How will this saga end with Millie, Sophia, and Megan?
SHE HAS MY CHILD is an utterly heart-wrenching, devastating, but ultimately uplifting, intense family drama with an unexpected plot twist at the book's conclusion. I hoped for this conclusion, and the author delivered a powerhouse ending! However, you cannot imagine how the characters would arrive there.
The author brilliantly captures the raw emotions of both sisters and the difficult decisions they are forced to make, handled with sympathy and sensitivity. The pandemic restriction added another level to the engaging story with another crisis level.
SHE HAS MY CHILD is part tear-jerker, part celebration of motherhood, sisterhood, and family. This one will tug at your heartstrings, a beautiful novel of courage, resilience, and love in the face of sorrow and uncertainty.
Character-driven, thought-provoking, and gripping, SHE HAS MY CHILD is my favorite book by the author! You will be glued to the pages with richly layered characters and a gripping dilemma. (loved Alex)
Piercing and uplifting, a genuinely engaging read of resilience, the bonds of sisters, secrets, and motherhood with deep characters and a multi-layered storyline. In addition, there are strong themes of self-discovery and second chances—an ideal book club pick!
For fans of Sally Hepworth, Diane Chamberlin, Suzanne Redfearn, Colleen Hoover, Rochelle Weinstein, and Jodi Picoult
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for a digital advanced reading copy.
My first book by Emma Robinson and not my last, a solid 4 star read!
Megan has always wanted to be a mother, even from an early age but finding out she had fertility issues shattered that dream and despite medical procedures and interventions she was ultimately told that she would never be able to have a baby. When she and her older sister Sophia reconnect, shortly before the death of their mother, after 20 years apart as Sophia left the family home abruptly at the age of 19, Sophia makes a suggestion that Megan can’t refuse, she offers to be Megan and her husband, Marks, surrogate. Mark has reservations but knows and, can see how important this is to Megan, so he agrees, and Sofia becomes pregnant. However, things aren’t simple as Sophia lives in Italy with her partner Richard. Despite that Megan and Sophia make it work with regular visits back to the UK for baby appointments and check-ups and Megan finally starts to believe that she will indeed become a mother. Then suddenly a pandemic hits; the dreaded Covid-19 starts to engulf the world, Italy is badly hit and the world as everyone knew it changes beyond any recognition. Pressure starts to build in both Megan and Sophia’s relationships with Mark and Richard now working from home, and also tension builds between the sisters themselves which just increases the nearer that Sophia gets to her due date. The plan from the beginning was for Megan to be handed baby Millie straight after birth but due to lockdown Megan can’t get to Italy, she is frantic knowing her baby has been born but she is so far out of reach while Sophia begins to bond with Millie after carrying her for 9 months. Megan is going out of her mind and wonders whether she really will get the baby that she wants so much. While Sofia enjoyed pregnancy a whole lot more than she expected and that nurturing feeling only intensifies when baby Millie is born, and she begins to care for her. What is going to happen when Italy finally gets out of lockdown and Megan can come and get her baby? Will Sofia be able to let go of such a strong bond and be Auntie Sofia and not mummy despite knowing that Millie isn’t hers?!
This was a really good family drama story that I wholeheartedly enjoyed. I liked the style of writing, and the plot drew me in very quickly. I really didn’t like Richard and at the beginning I wasn’t a huge fan of Megan however I did begin to warm to her. As I also suffer from fertility problems too (I hope someday I will be a mother, but it will be a difficult, albeit worthwhile, journey to get there) it wasn’t difficult to emphasize with Megan and like her I also have the myriad of emotions she felt regarding motherhood and babies. I didn’t see the secret that was revealed in chapter 15 coming so that was a huge surprise as I definitely was led down the wrong path by the author regarding it (which was great!). I have to admit with only 30% left of the book I had no idea how it could possibly end and as this is a spoiler free review all I will say is that I was satisfied by the ending.
All in all, a good read from Emma Robinson and I will be sure to look out for more of her books. If you enjoy the Family drama genre this one is for you.
Thank you to NetGalley, Emma Robinson and Bookouture for my advanced reading copy. Out now.
Twenty years ago, nineteen year old Sophia waved goodbye to her twelve year old sister Megan, promising that she would be back for her soon, that was the last time Megan saw her, until a couple of years ago when she reappeared in her life. Megan has been married to Mark for many years and, after many failed attempts, is desperate for a baby so, when Sophia offers to be their surrogate, she thinks all their prayers have been answered but Mark seems unsure. As the pregnancy progresses, secrets from twenty years ago are revealed and Mark is acting very strangely, Megan is beginning to wonder if she should have listened to her husband, can her sister really be trusted?
Sometimes a book comes along that squeezes your heart to within an inch of its life and leaves you feeling emotionally bruised, She Has My Child is THAT book! Told from the perspectives of Megan and Sophia in alternate chapters, Robinson takes us on a journey that I was certain could only have one outcome and I was desperate to be proved wrong. This story highlights how precious the gift of life is and what it means to be given the chance to become a parent but, with that comes risks and consequences and this is all laid bare in a heartwrenching story which, as always, this hugely talented author writes with compassion and integrity and had me racing through the pages to see if Sophia would come through for her sister. I have to admit my heart was in my mouth on more than one occasion throughout this harrowing tale. Robinson delivers every time she puts pen to paper and once again she does not disappoint, huge five stars from me!
I'd like to thank Bookouture and Netgalley for the auto approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day.
SHE HAS MY CHILD is another outstanding and heart-wrenching work of women’s fiction by author Emma Robinson. Megan and Sophia are two sisters that have been estranged for many years after a traumatic event in their childhood that is not revealed until later in the book. Megan, the younger sister, hasn’t seen her sister in over 20 years when she reenters her life and they reconnect. Sophia learns that Megan and her husband Mark have been experiencing infertility and offers to serve as a surrogate for them.
The novel begins as Sophia is in the last weeks of her pregnancy… and covid lockdown happens, separating Megan and Mark from Sophia and the baby they are hoping to welcome into their lives in a different country. This book had so many interesting angles and emotional twists and turns. It’s been a few years now since covid happened and now that we’ve all had a bit of space to emotionally decompress, it’s easier to read books set during that time period and have it be an interesting plot point rather than something that draws a stress reaction, and I liked this twist, but I also felt for Megan and her visceral pain at being separated from her baby, especially when she’d waited for this for so long.
The POV trades off between her and Sophia and you also feel for Sophia, experiencing feelings of bonding and attachment to her child she wasn’t anticipating when they’re forced to go through lockdown together. There are even more twists as Megan and Mark experience things together as a couple during lockdown… and it was just really well done and emotional! I wasn’t sure how things were going to end and was biting my nails in a few places. Emma Robinson is definitely a favorite author and this was a great one! 5/5 stars.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary ARC copy of this book from NetGalley and Bookouture for review purposes.
Megan and her husband Mark have been trying to have a child for years, and have received the devastating information that Megan is never going to be able to carry their child. They only have two options: adoption and surrogacy. Everything seems lost until suddenly Sofia, Megan’s sister, volunteers immediately to be their surrogate. While Megan is ecstatic, Mark is more hesitant. After all, Megan hasn’t seen Sofia in many years, ever since she took off when Megan was 12, and only just came back when Megan contacted her to let her know that their mom was dying of cancer.
But Megan jumps at the opportunity to become a mom, and Mark reluctantly agrees as well. Sofia is willing to do everything possible to ensure everything goes smoothly, but she does need to go back to Italy to be with her husband, and make sure all the affairs at her job are in order for when she goes on maternity leave and returns to the UK to deliver the baby for the happy couple. However, tragedy strikes and the pandemic has hit the world, where everything is shut down, and the characters are forced to be separated from each other.
While I did enjoy the novel, and the ending, I can’t help but feel misled. The twist close to the beginning of the novel as to what causes the initial separation between Megan, Sofia and the baby is the pandemic, which I didn’t enjoy. Robinson is certainly bold for including, but more information about that possibility in the premise of the novel is certainly missing.
Big thanks to Bookouture for inviting me to be on their book tour! Make sure to check out the other reviews on the tour!
Have you ever started a book thinking it’s a certain genre and then realize you were wrong? Well that’s what happened for me when I started to read She Has My Child by Emma Robinson. For some reason I assumed it was a thriller but I was so wrong. But it didn’t matter as I absolutely loved this book which turns out to be a domestic drama. From start to finish I was engaged and entertained. This is the first book I’ve read by author Emma Robinson and I will definitely be checking out her other books.
Despite not a being a thriller, there were several great plot twists that I did not expect. I also really enjoyed the complex themes the author tackled. Although some of the topics were heavy and could be triggering for some.
What would you do if you desperately wanted a child but after years of infertility you were unable to have a baby. Married couple, Megan and Mark had given up hope of having a child of their own until Megan’s long lost sister shows up and offers to be their surrogate. What would you do? Would you take her up on her offer even though she’s been out of your life for over 20 years? Can you trust her? No spoilers from me you’ll just have to grab a copy and see for yourself how the story unfolds. You are definitely in for an emotional rollercoaster of a ride with She Has My Child.
Thank you Bookouture and Emma Robinson for having me on the book tour for She Has My Child and my e-arc. A definite 4 ⭐️ read for me.
A great read as I have come to expect from this author. I must say this one didn’t bring me to tears quite like some of her others but I really enjoyed it. The reunion of two sisters, separated many years earlier, soon hits problems as the world is hit by Covid. I must admit when I saw where it was going with Covid being a part of the story I felt a little disappointed, did I really want to read about how the world was affected? However, the author was very sensitive in how she talked about it and although it played a central part in the story, the details were kept to a minimum, just enough for what the story needed. As ever, the author develops the characters well, I couldn’t quite decide how I felt about everyone, whose corner would I be in, who would I support, what would happen? But as I continued to read and the story took its twists and turns, with the author perfectly describing the scenery around our characters, you will find you care for them all. The ending was perfect to this tale and I’d love to know what happens to all the characters! Overall a great read. Plus the title I feel is really good, as you read, it could suggest many different scenarios and keeps you guessing!
Set during the tumultuous times of covid, there is an added a poignancy to this heart-wrenching story that really adds to its relevance in current times..
Megan is a married woman in her 30s, who due to infertility and an overwhelming desire to be a mother, finds herself accepting the kind offer of her estranged elder sister, Sophia, to act as surrogate. Other than husband, Mark, appearing more than a little reticent, all is basically going to plan until...lockdown! Sophia is resident in Italy, and therefore her plans to give birth in England with Megan playing a strong role are shelved as Sophia finds herself requiring a home birth in Italy with Megan frustratingly in attendance via FaceTime only. What follows for Sophia is an emotional rollercoaster as she bonds with the child she has carried for 9 months, experiences some turbulent romantic issues of her own, while also navigating the struggles of Megan, who is seemingly in constant contact. Megans' emotional struggles are a worthy story of their own.
I really enjoyed this novel and cant recommend it highly enough!
My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.
I got hooked on Emma Robinson books last year and was beyond excited to get to review her upcoming book She Has My Daughter. Twenty years ago Sophia left home and never cam back. One year ago her little sister Megan reached out to her, and she returned for the first time. Struggling with fertility Megan is surprised when her formerly absent sister offers to be her surrogate. But circumstances beyond Megan’s control will leave her terrified and vulnerable and wondering if trusting her sister with her baby was a terrible mistake. I love @emmarobinsonuk books because they always go left when I think they are going right. This one was no exception (well almost) and I love watching the emotional layers slowly unfurl the more you read. Sister relationships can be so emotionally charged and complex, and this book captures that beautifully. And throw in struggles of infertility and motherhood, and a few relationship issues and you have a book that is both heartbreaking and uplifting. Look for this one March 26 2024 Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for letting me review this one a little early.
Many thanks to netgalley, the author and bookouture for approving my request to read this book.
She has my baby is a very emotional and thought provoking read. Sophia Megan's estranged sister comes back into her life after many years after Megan tracks her down as their mother is dying. Megan is desperate for a baby but she has fertility issues and is told she'll never be able to conceive. Sophia then offers to be a surrogate for Megan and her husband Mark hoping it will help make amends for her past behaviour.
During this time Sophia travels back to Italy to see her boyfriend but then the country is forced into lockdown due to the covid 19 pandemic with the rest of the world following suit not long after. Sophia is forced to give birth in Italy whilst Megan waits helplessly in England.
Whilst she awaits a time when she can finally hold her baby in her arms Megan can't help but wonder how Sophia is feeling towards the new arrival.
I really enjoyed the many complex layers of this book which which the author captures beautifully. I'll definitely be recommending this book to others.
WOW!! This book is heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time. Emma Robinson has a writing style that is beautiful and has a way of tugging on all of your emotions. She'll have you feeling all the feels! I'm not usually a book crier, but I found myself very emotional with this one.
Told from the POVs of Megan and Sophie, the two sisters are estranged and trying to rebuild a relationship. Sophie agrees to be a surrogate for Megan, nd her husband Mark. The world shuts down due to a pandemic while Sophia is pregnant, and that's when things go awry. We see Sophia and Megan grapple with the fragile state of their relationship, which leads to a lot of tension between the two. The author does a great job capturing the emotions of each sister, fully immersing us in their worlds.
This is a devastating yet uplifting book, that hold an extremely powerful message and conclusion. This story is about forgiveness and redemption. The plot touches on such sensitive topics that the author handles with such care, compassion, integrity, and empathy. Emma Robinson is a must read author for me now!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was a really good and well written book. Following two estranged sisters, one that wanted a child that couldn't and one that could but didn't want one, or so she thought. Sophia and Megan are powerful women, living their own lives in different countries but still have a plan for themselves. Sophia gave Megan a child via surrogacy but can she really give her up when the time comes? This book is loosely based around lockdown times which means that Sophia has hold of the baby longer than planned, everything was different than planned and it can become dangerous with feelings from both women flying around. Very thought provoking and you really feel for the women, especially as they are both going through things in their marriages.
This story portrays what could have been a real life situation and I can't imagine their feelings when it's all over, handing over a baby you were never meant to keep. It must be so hard!
This is an enjoyable read, it gripped me and I flew through it! It was nail biting at times, emotional and endearing all in one! I will look out for more from Emma soon!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookoutre for this Advanced Reader’s Copy of She Has My Child by Emma Robinson due to be published March 26, 2024. Megan and Mark are desperate to have a baby but cannot conceive. When her sister, Sophia, whom she’s been estranged from since she was twelve, offers to be their surrogate Megan jumps at the chance. Was it a good idea or not with Sophia and Megan in separate countries? This was my first book by Emma Robinson. She Has My Child tells the story from two different points of view – Megan and Sophia – as the pregnancy progresses and the child is eventually born. This was an up and down emotional roller coaster – from elated to gut-wrenching to joyous and heartbreaking – be sure to have a box of tissues ready for this one! In the end, all that matters is that whoever is in your family makes up your family. I will definitely look up more books by Emma Robinson! #NetGalley #EmmaRobinson #Bookoutre #SheHasMyChild
Megan and Mark can’t have children, so when Megan’s sister, Sophia, offers to be surrogate for them, Megan jumps at the chance.
Mark is more cautious as Sophia left her sister when she was 12, just left home without saying a word at the age of 19.
After twenty years away, Sophia comes home as their mum is dying. Sophia feels she owes Megan this one thing, but can Megan trust her?
My goodness, this was such an emotional story! Amazing storytelling from the author, she manages to write about a difficult subject with sensitivity and care.
I wasn’t sure about reading a story that bases part of it on the lockdown period from Covid, but my fears were allayed, the author covered it well.
This is the first time I have read one of the author’s books and I will definitely be downloading the rest of her books, I loved her style of writing.
My thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
When estranged sisters Megan and Sophia are reunited at the end of their mother’s life, Sophia attempts to ease Megan’s grief by offering to be her surrogate. But Sophia’s altruistic intentions are complicated not only by lockdown but her own secret past.
Its dual point of view is exceptionally handled, shifting my allegiance between the siblings, as each of their stories is told with such well-crafted empathy. Emma’s one of those writers who puts you through the emotional wringer, but somehow holds your hand to keep you steady along the way.
By embedding its exploration of issues around infertility, loss and broken family in the COVID pandemic, She Has My Child carved another layer of emotional depth for me. There was something so visceral about this element of the novel that made it very relatable and true.
I can’t wait to read more of Emma’s work and can really see this as a great TV drama too.
Emma Robinson's recent book, She Has My Baby, delves into the realm of family secrets, evoking deep emotions.
The story follows Megan and her sister, Sophia, who reunite as their mother nears the end of her life. Sophia kindly offers to be a surrogate for Megan, who struggles with carrying a baby to full term, fulfilling Megan's lifelong dream of becoming a mother like their own. However, complications arise as Sophia must be separated from Megan in the final weeks of the pregnancy and during the birth, unveiling unexpected and heart-wrenching secrets. Can the sisters mend their relationship and create the family they both long for?
Without revealing too much, I empathized deeply with Megan during the challenging separation period, especially as she navigated her personal struggles. Emma's storytelling truly immerses you in the narrative, making you feel like part of the journey.
