Can Jox lead his squadron to victory…?
Autumn, 1942
Fighter pilot, Jox McNabb has survived the desert and the second battle of El Alamein, but now No. 111 Squadron is heading into a fresh new storm.
They embark on Operation Torch, the invasion of Vichy North Africa, but adverse weather conditions make flying almost impossible.
And their Commanding Officer, Tony Bartley is losing control as he becomes more and more dependent on alcohol.
After a rocky few months, and a final disastrous mission, it is decided that Jox should step up to Squadron Leader.
But as the North African campaign worsens and Bartley becomes increasingly erratic, Jox finds himself fighting an uphill battle.
Is Jox up for the challenge of command? Can he lead his men to victory?
Or are circumstances too stacked against him…?
THE VULCAN AND THE STRAITS is the fourth book in the Jox McNabb Aviation Thrillers action-packed, authentic historical adventures following a young RAF pilot during the Second World War.

THE JOX MCNABB AVIATION THRILLERS BOOK The Lightening and the Few BOOK The Raiders and the Cross BOOK The Maple and the Blue BOOK The Vulcan and the Straits
I nearly didn’t read this book as I was having really doubts about the author’s writing style. To start with I don’t like being told things in the prologue that are going to happen in the rest of the book and I also felt he was often trying too hard, with the number and range of things that happen to Jox, some of which bordered on the ridiculous. Jox and his squadrons seem to have accounted for a big percentage of Castle Bromwich’s production. Nothing has changed in this book.
I have read the other books in this series so far and really have enjoyed them all. The author is a very good story teller. The back ground of the time period is very well described and used to paint a vivid image for the reader to see what the he wants to portray. Readers who enjoy novels set in this period would enjoy this novel.
To date, an interesting series following a Spitfire pilot from his flight training days through the beginning of WWII, to the Middle East in Africa and the invasion of Italy via Sicily. Since there's more to WWII and Jox is about to crash land his Spitfire in Italy, I suspect there's more to come in this series.
The forth in this series was great, taking Jox thru the invasion of Sicily and his being shot down twice. I can’t wait for the next installment of the tale of an RAF hero. Patrick Larsimont has the feel of someone who was actually there
Patrick Larsimont has done it again in his fourth Jox McNabb novel. Wonderfully written, with powerful characters, this book is a must for all WW2 fans.
Another great novel , all the trails and tribulations of battle . The losses of his colleagues, capture, " fighting " the fierce weather conditions etc all added to a tense and often emotional novel . Roll on the next Jox McNabb novel.
This was a great read. It has lots of varied action -- on the ground and in the air. Larsimont has created interesting characters. He mixes in some historical situations.
The action moves from Africa to Sicily as this series continues nicely. Jox is multitasking in this episode; flying, spying and returning, with increasing difficulty, from being shot down as his role changes from fighters to ground attack.
