⮞ 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 ⮜ It was so lovely seeing the characters from the previous book again. I loved how badass Rossi has become, and how many friends she has made along the way. Drag, however, wasn't really my fave this time. I felt he acted like a jackass - but I loved how things ended!
⮞ 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝-𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 ⮜ The world-building isn't the main attraction, but you do get a lot of information about the surroundings, and how things look where the action happens.
⮞ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝/𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝 ⮜ The story is short and fast-paced and has the perfect ending for this trilogy. I loved how our little half-witch has grown and how badass she turned in the end. All the characters are so lovable and is impossible not to love them! I really enjoyed reading it, it was such a great adventure.
⮞ 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐞/TW ⮜ The romance doesn't have any spice in it, there's only a kiss. The story has lots of funny moments tho, adventure and lot's of magic.
What a great conclusion! I was seriously concerned what the outcome would be, the author shrouded the characters and plot in such a way, I wasn't sure where would end up. As I was reading it, my stomach was dropping inch by inch, I mean, Drag!!!! He is a character I immediately latched onto, a character so complex, so.... misguided, yet I could understand why, I could understand his motives and I saw under all of his "armour" a caring, genuine man. Geez, always made to feel "lesser" in his father's eyes, never acknowledged for who he is, yeah, all sorts of issues arise. I felt him to my core, all his internal struggles, all his anger, all of him! The anguish he feels for Rossi could have melted an iceberg! He wants nothing more than to protect her, shield her from harm but does she listen? Heck no!
See, Rossi had a tendency to leap before she sees the terrain before her and inevitably, the terrain is littered with obstacles. But it's her compassion, her love for her friends and family that determines her next step, yes... pun intended...Oh gosh do I enjoy her! Her thoughts are so vocal I could hear them resonating in my head. She's come a long way from feeling like a failure, she's grown in her magical abilities, she's put aside her insecurities and she's finally able to reconcile it all. Through warmth of her family, through betrayal of the heart and the soul, she stands tall, she understands who, what and how she is, primarily thanks to Nora. With Ainsley on her tail, Rossi needs every ounce of courage, of resolve to face her. Now she's a piece of work! Powerful, manipulative, she oozes evil from every pore!
Ms O'Dell did a splendid task in creating these characters, rounding them up nicely so there were no sharp edges, just smooth likeable (and unlikeable!) characters. She took the plot and transformed it into a work of beauty, bringing in wonderful magical aspects, bringing in fallible real characters, bringing in delights like Sallie May and Simon, even a huge troll who's flatulence could knock out an army! Besides the moments of anguish and sinking tummy, this book and series carried me through multitude of of action, littered with humour and an overwhelming sense of fun. I mean, there's a mom who turns her lovers into animals, there's a teeny tiny snarky unicorn, there's even a kitty with wings! A warm and beautiful HEA, to a warm and happy read, despite the few wobbles along the way. I seriously recommend this light hearted yet intensely energetically engaging read
Witch Storm is the third and final book in the Witch of Wyvern series by Mandy O’Dell, and it’s a fantastic way to wrap up a great story.
As we start the final book Rossi’s no longer sure she can count on Drag, Simon has vanished and Ellery has been imprisoned, so Rossi has to trust in herself and some new friends to put matters right. I could really see how much Rossi’s character has developed as she and her coven work to stop Ainsley’s plan to take their stones and destroy everything Rossi holds dear.
It was great to see Rossi finally believing in her powers and the self-confidence that’s given her. I also adored Sallie-Mae, whose antics kept me chuckling throughout the book - drattens should definitely be a thing!
Despite the way the story developed for Drag I do feel that his character could have been pushed further given this is the final book. I would have liked to see more of the absolute duality of Drag and Rossi’s combined powers and I also particularly missed Simon’s snarky contributions.
The author has brought everything to a definitive conclusion in this book, with some interesting and unexpected developments along the way, as well as some new characters to get to know.
I’ve really enjoyed this series, with its different take on magic and great world building. I definitely think this will appeal to readers of low fantasy, witchy and young-adult fiction and possibly some urban fantasy readers too. It’s easy to read and to let the story and characters envelop you in Rossi’s world!
Witch Storm by Mandy O’Dell is the conclusion of the story of Rossi, who started out to be a witch with no powers to a formidable witch. During this series I got more hooked, because the plot, the worldbuilding, the magic and danger and the romance was just written so very good.
The book picks up right where the last one, Witch Star, ended. Rossi continues to search for who she is and what she can do and at the same time she longs to be with Drag, the sorcerer who captured her heart, but also someone she cannot trust completely. You get thrown into the action right from the start, and there is enough mystery to keep you hooked. The writing is flowing and fast-paced and this kept me turning the pages faster and faster. Rossi I liked very much, she is determined to keep her loved ones safe and I loved how she got more into her power. Drag is a bit of a mystery, he is out for revenge and wants to kill the evil witch, which makes that he changes. That was hard to read, because I was rooting for Rossi and Drag to finally be together. But of course, there is this great plot twist.
Witch Storm is filled with mystery, magic, danger, evil witches, sorcerers, romance, betrayal, and with a very likable main character, plus several plot twists, some of which I did not see coming at all. It is a perfect ending to a great series, a series I can highly recommend.
If you're looking for a quick witchy read that's full of action and gets straight to the point, this is for you. There's a pretty large cast of characters that can be hard to keep straight at first, but you'll get there. This is the last book in the trilogy, and it ends in a hea.
While it was fast-paced, I felt my attention still wandered. I wasn't as drawn into the story as I would have liked. Everything seemed to get resolved a little too easily for my taste. I also felt like Ainsley's character was inconsistent. Sometimes, she seemed really diabolical and menacing, and others I couldn't take her seriously.
At the end of the day, I think this series makes a good palate cleanser between heavier reads but falls a bit short of what I would consider a "love."
Witch Storm wraps up The Witch of Wyvern series. At less than 200 pages, it's a very quick read, but it was able to tie up all the loose ends. It's a fun read, filled with mythical creatures, magic, and Rossi's determination. The classic good vs. evil storyline comes to an end with a HEA. Rossi does not give up on any of her friends, even those that turned out to not always be on her side. Now that all three books are out, I would recommend reading them straight through together at the same time since they are all so short. Each book picks up immediately after the previous one, so I think it will make a more complete story all together. 5 stars!
Witch Storm picks up beautifully from where Witch Star left off. Mandy O’Dell has done it again, delivering a seamless continuation to Rossi’s story.
Readers get to dive right back into a wonderfully developed story as Rossi continues her journey of self-discovery and realizing that she never was just a “half witch” with one stone. In this book, readers will be pleased to know that there is still plenty of sass, adorable animals, mythical beings, strong bonds all while still presenting challenges to push the story forward.
This was a perfect conclusion to an extremely well-done YA Fantasy novel. I would highly recommend it.
Rossi and friends are back for the final battle. As Rossi learns more about her power and what she can do, she doesn’t know who she can trust. There is lots of things happening in this book and although it is fairly short everything works well together. There are surprises, interesting characters, interesting magic and great interactions I really like Rossi and how she rebounds from problems, learning as she goes. Her family can be a bit overwhelming but are always for her. Drag has problems although he means well. Simon and Sallie Mae are just too cute and funny. This is a fun, quick, easy, enjoying read.
Really good book. I enjoyed this fun little series. I'm usually not a big unicorn fan (or, in this case, a little unicorn), but the characters turned out to be a fun mix of so many fairytale creatures. The only reason I didn't put 5 stars was because I guess I was hoping for a little more at the end with Drag. I like happy endings, and I was a little worried near the end of the book. Good job, Mandy. I'm looking forward to your next new series!
This series was already one of my absolute favorites ever, but THIS BOOK!!! It was epic, awesome, incredible, and literally unputdownable! I finished it in just a few hours because I kept putting off other things I needed to do in order to read it more, haha This book was action-packed and had so many twists that I didn't see coming! And the ending was absolutely epic and perfect! I will certainly be reading this entire trilogy over and over again!
A wonderful and terrifying finale! Terrifying, because there was so much at stake and so much that could go wrong. Wonderful because of the story and the ending! The nasty witch Ainsley caused so much pain and chaos…I did enjoy her fate. I loved this book!
OMG what an ending this author has given us. It’s all hands on deck for this finale of good versus evil full of magic, mythology and some incredible characters. Exciting, thrilling, with fantastical world building, this trilogy has been wonderful to read as our characters adventure has had me hooked and on the edge of my seat. Drama, danger, action, adventure, the author weaves their spell and ties up loose ends, bringing everything together. Such a good read!
Once again Mandy O’dell did not disappoint! I was entertained and entrapped in her world of fantastical spells and creatures. Can’t wait for the next book!!!!!!
This series was a great read. Fast paced and satisfying. I can't wait to read more of Mandy O'Dell's books. I also got a different look at witchcraft, I liked the freshness of it.
