First, this is an excellent feminist literary critique of the work of Emily Dickinson as a woman in early to mid-19th century New England. McNeil is obviously a scholar and cares deeply about Dickinson (which makes her my cousin, in a way). I’m glad I read it, even if it did take me more than two years to understand what McNeil was saying, lol. The missing star is simply for the density of the writing, but that also might be a skill issue on my part. More poetic analysis for me in the future? Perhaps!
