I'm a former software designer, campaign manager, deli clerk, and cow milker, but always a bookworm. Check out my zany, outside-the-box western series, Honey Beaulieu - Man Hunter. It's full of western action and pickles. Yes, I said pickles.

For a romantic read, try my western historical romance series, ♥ Hearts of Owyhee ♥: Hearts of Owyhee.

Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews says: "Jacquie Rogers writes some of the best Historical Romances on today's market...Absolutely fantastic!"

Much Ado about Miners by Jacquie Rogers is a 2013 Melange Publication. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This fourth installment in the Owyhee Series centers around a mining community where four resourceful and smart ladies form their own company. Iris is the main female protagonist, a clerk at the local bank, who in the opening sequence attempts to foil a robbery attempt, only to shoot Kade McKinnon, the great love of her life, a man she hasn't seen in some time.

The legend goes that all the male victims of Iris's gun, wind up being married soon. If that is true, then Kade would be the next in line. But, he swears that will never happen. He is there to do a job, end of story. Kade is a notorious gunman, but is in town to escort a bullion shipment. What he doesn't know is that Iris and her suffragette group are the owners of the company who hired him.

What a delightful western historical romance! Seriously, this story is just good old fashioned fun. The tone is set with the robbery at the bank, and Iris shooting Kade. From there the story just gets better with laugh out loud hilarity, all sorts of mix ups and misunderstandings, and a couple of sweet romances to cap it off.

I loved the suffragette movement and how these women outsmarted and outwitted everyone proving that women were just as capable as men. These ladies were willing to try anything in order to achieve a level of independence, proving there was huge distinction between wanting a man, and needing a man. They may not have always gotten things right on the first try, but they certainly gave it their best, and were an inspiration.

The romance with Iris and Kade was a rocky one, with Iris deeply in love with Kade and Kade making it crystal clear he would never marry, despite the superstition surrounding Iris' gun slinging. Kade isn't immune to Iris, by any means, but he feels marriage would be unfair to her because his job would keep him away from home most of the time. So, Iris begins to make other arrangements thinking a future with Kade will never happen.

In the meantime robbers are on the loose and Kade will have a time of it keeping the shipment safe.

Add the rescue of a darling cat into the mix and you have a mad cap adventure set in the old west that is full of surprises, action and adventure, humor and romance. This is a western historical but not quite what comes to mind when I think of this genre. This could be a romantic comedy if it was set in present day, if that gives you an idea of what to expect, but the story and the characters are authentic to the time period and the genre, which is a huge thing for me, since I can get testy when modern phrases and actions creep into historical novels no matter what time frame they are set in.

So, overall I highly recommend this book if you are a fan of western historical novels or if you just like to be entertained and want to escape into another time a place for awhile. I don't think you will be disappointed.

I have read all the Much Ado books and I think this one is the best. I really liked the Marshals and the others, but I think this one is better. It was just too short. I really like Mrs. Rogers books. She is a
fun and enjoyable writer. I love westerns, but I really love westerns with some humor, romance and mystery. She does them all!

Iris works as a bank teller. When the bank is robbed, she accidentally shoots a bystander, who turns out to be her childhood love, Kade. All the old feeling come back, but Kade is a hired gun who moves around the country from job to job. Iris and her friends have formed a secret investment group that will reap a large profit if the bullion from Kade's family's mine makes it to its destination. Kade secretly owns the transport security firm that will escort the shipment. Secrets abound everywhere. Will Iris and Kade be able to finally find a way to mesh their lives and discover love at the same time?

This book is #4 in the Hearts of Owyhee series. It continues the same steamy romance level as the previous books. The story is action-filled with lots of laughs and well-defined characters. Enjoyable read!

I haven’t read the other Much Ado books yet as I received Much Ado About Miners as a gift but, judging from what I’ve read, I don’t expect to be disappointed. In fact, all the other books in the series are on my list of “Books to buy”.

Jacquie Rogers has a way with words and she creates great plots with lots of action, humor, romance and whatnot. If you do want a good laugh, then Much Ado About Miners is THE book to read.

Both the main characters and the secondary ones are spot on and, as a reader, I love to hate a villain as much as I like to fall in love with the good guys – which is what happened with this story.

Jacquie was also able to bring to life Duke, a very nice cat – well, I have to admit that maybe not everyone will agree with this statement, ask Mrs. Brouster – that caught my heart as much as Kade and Iris did (and yes, I love animals and cats in particular – I guess that makes me partial to Duke, doesn’t it?)  Anyway, Duke IS special but you’ll have to read the book to see why.

All in all, this book is a very good read and one I highly recommend.

*I received this book free in exchange for an honest review*

This was a decent western book! I like the characters. They were likable, relatable. The plot was interesting and moved along well. There were parts where I wish I had read the first few books in the series, because I felt left out. But in all, this could be a decent stand alone novel. The story fit the time period.

It was sultry and fun at the same time. If you like Westerns, or if you like historicals but want something different, try this series. It certainly has an appeal for people over a few different genres.

The cover doesn't really do it for me. If I had been scrolling Amazon, I would have looked right past this book. I'm glad I was given it to read though.

Kade and Iris story is my first in the much ado series and I loved it so much I am speed reading through the other ones!
what happens when you had a handsome gunslinger, trailblazing cowboy with a sassy, independent adventure seeking suffargist? you could a story that makes you giggle like a schoolgirl and a romance that is just hard not to love!
and I wouldn't do this book justice if I didn't add a note about the crazy feline Duke who's name simply says it all. between the bar fight and the back up on the trail, not to mention the fiasco with the mouse, Dukes role is far from small in this tale of the old west.
