Perfect world. Lies. Blue eyes.

When a mysterious guy from the forbidden zone sneaks an illegal slip of paper to a beautiful young girl from Brighton, she must decide if she should turn him in or follow what the note says.

Eighteen-year-old Abigail has no trouble following Brighton’s rules. For one, she’s OCD about checking her Date of Death clock latched to her wrist, making sure her decisions never shorten her timeline, and two, she enjoys the peace Brighton has to offer. In no way would she bring on another attack that destroyed earth’s inhabitants. But when her best friend returns from her Advice Meeting--a glimpse into the future--shocked and won’t tell Abby what’s happened, Abby is worried what awaits her glimpse. The stranger with blue eyes knows something, but does Abby dare enter the forbidden zone to get answers? Or is she doomed to live the life set in her glimpse?

(I received this book through NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.)

It took me some time to get and remain in the story, and I have to admit that in the end, well, I didn't like it. There were good ideas, and it started off as promising; however, after a while, everything became so disjointed that I wasn't sure anymore what I was reading, and the abrupt ending/cliffhanger just left me "wait, whut?".

The first thing I couldn't wrap my mind around was the world itself. It contains lots of elements, and seems quite rich in terms of background to exploit, but the way it was introduced didn't make much sense to me. We have zombies who may or may not exist; Sasquatches (half-human, half-animal?) whose origin is definitely unclear; and what I'm going to call a "pocket universe", a.k.a. Brighton, without any information about the rest of the world. I admit I wouldn't have been bothered so much if I had read this book some 3 years ago, but after so many dystopian stories revolving about the same theme, I can't help now but always wonder: "Is this community the only one? What about others? Don't they communicate? Do people really believe all that, and never question anything, even privately, in their own thoughts?" The Oracle part was also problematic: she's introduced around the 25% mark, as something everybody seems to know (at least, the way Abby mentions her), but I can't remember her existence being mentioned sooner, and this felt weird. Also, this:

"The EA wanted to purge blue eyes from future generations, saying they had a proclivity to disease and illness."

Why? This begged for an explanation, and we never got it. This looks like a really important element, so important that the EA goes to such lengths as to, well, spay people who might give birth to children with blue eyes. Why? Are blue eyes linked to some special power? Is some blue-eyed person born in the future, so they're trying to prevent his/her birth by removing blue eyes from the gene pool altogether? As it is, it just didn't make sense.

Some pacing problems, too. The beginning was interesting. The middle lacked in excitement (discover people outside, travel to camp, life at camp). The third part contained many time-jumps, and those were terribly confusing. I'd like to chalk said confusion to my being tired, but I'm really not sure about that. I get there are different timelines, and that there's a key moment in the past from which various futures are determined... or was the key moment sometime in the future, with a cure being found for something that happened in the present, yet it had to be brought to the past for the present to be "normal" again? The way things happened in that regard were, again, very confusing, and that part of the plot kept contradicting itself. I still have no idea how the person able to jump in time did it (claiming "I have no control", yet always conveniently arriving at the exact moment they aimed for?), nor how her powers suddenly came out, nor how she managed to sort through all those timelines. She seemed to learn that in a snap of fingers, when it's probably something anyone would need at least days of training to master—if only in their mind.

I didn't really like any of the characters. Abby: has every male character pining after her, and of course she can't decide (it's insta-love but it isn't, no, wait, it is); whiny, needy, then turning badass out of nowhere. Kaden: stop being the broody loner and TALK, because I tell you, this clears up misunderstandings in record time. Memphis: any person calling another "Sugar" from the beginning (or "babe", "baby", or whatever other "cutesy" name) makes me cringe—and the testosterone contest regarding who gets the girl gets tiring, pretty fast: I felt like smacking him every time he made moves such as sliding his arm around Abby's waist in a possessive gesture. The community: girls are at the camp, doing laundry and cooking and washing the dishes, because everyone knows they can't have any useful skills like hunting or patrolling, nor can any guy cook a meal. Decisions: everybody seems to act on a whim, sometimes out of character, and a lot of problems could have been avoided if they had just initiated basic communication, instead of puffing chests and trying to prove how manly they were. Reader not impressed here.

On the writing side: a couple of proofing problems (Complement/Compliment), that got corrected after a while, but were still annoying. Maybe they're not in the printed copy anymore, though.

Although the next book is bound to hold answers, after such a cliffhanger, I'm not interested enough to pick it.

Man oh man, what can I say? Writing about time travel requires a very special talent, a talent that this author does not have. Don't get me wrong, I think Ms.Pandos has a lot of potential as a writer, but the time travel aspect of this book was extremely disjointed.

Everything started out okay but quickly became convoluted and odd. Sasquatches, zombies and glitches oh my! There was no back story for anything. I'm not saying that there needed to be a massive info dump, but this novel demands blind faith and I just couldn't do it.

Unfortunately this was a bit painful to read. At this point in time I am not sure if I feel confident enough in this story to read the sequel. 2.5/5, would not recommend.

I was under the impression that this book dealt solely with zombies and it would just be another zombie apocolypse story. Boy was I wrong! IT WAS SO MUCH MORE!!!

I really enjoyed the storyline and thought it was unique and creative. Ms. Pandos has outdone herself with this book and I really cannot wait to see where this story is headed!

The main character of Abby is considered a good girl. She follows all rules and has never broken a law in her life. But when the mysterious blue eyed boy leaves her a note, she has to find out what it says. So she sneaks off after curfew and goes by the wall to retrieve it. The message has her a little baffled considering the mystery man obviously is from outside the wall. What could he possibly know about her life?

Now no book would be complete without a few swoony boys and this one has a gaggle of them:) We get a sense of whom Abby feels a connection with but there are a couple of others that she had affections for also and it leads me to believe that there may be quite more boy trouble on the horizon.

There were actually some zombies, but the book is not focused on this fact and the story has to do more with the survival of the people and Abby being a major component. My favorite part was the fact that each person upon their eighteenth birthday gets to meet their future self and ask them questions. This is so that they can possibly learn from their future mistakes. Can you imagine a world where this actually happens? One would think that this would make our world a perfect place but, this really causes alot of problems with these characters.

I kinow this is the first book in the series and we were left on a bit of a cliffhanger. I am hoping to have the next book in my hands soon!! Thank you to Brenda for the review copy and allowing me to be on this tour:)

Head over to the blog to read the first 2 chapters of this book!

I just want to say OMG this book is amazing. I underestimated it a little when I thought it was about zombies and that's not really my cup of tea. Seriously it's so much more don't let the thought of zombies put you off.

Abby lives behind the confines of a wall in Brighton and she is obsessed with her D.O.D (date of death) watch and always keeps an eye on it to see the minutes ticking by. Everyone thinks their safe in Brighton with everything running smoothly and their all scared of the zombies over the wall.

Abby only has one day until she turns 16 and meets her compliment which is her 35 year old self and she has questions to ask. But during a baseball match in where she slips into a ditch she meets a blue eyed boy who hands her a slip of paper which is forbidden that reads " don't go to your meeting".

Her meeting doesn't go to plan and she has her suspicions about her 35 year old self. So with the help of her best friend Elle she tries to find out more and also about that blue eyed boy.

One night though Abby's life changes forever and takes a drastic turn in which secrets, lies and truth all come to the front.

This book keeps you on a journey that leaves you surprised and open mouthed. It's definitely a page turner. It fastly became one of my favourite books of all time and I can't wait for Switch.

This was so much fun! It was liked Matched, but with zombies and focused less on romance and more on the world.

In this world it is far in the future, everything we have now is old and outdated. The world is a dystopian disguised as a utopian where everyone is watched and carefully monitored. Everyone wears a wristband that tells them everything about their life. It tells them their death date and allows them to hook up to their computer systems to know many other things about themselves, like who will be their ideal match and what career they'll have. On their birthday, they get to meet their future selves and they guide them on the right path to get that future.

Abby is a girl very paranoid with her wristband, constantly looking at it and carefully picking her decisions as every one can shorten or lengthen ones lifespan. In fact, the opening scene is of Abby looking at her watch during a baseball game and her lifespan is quickly reaching zero (it goes years, months, days, minutes, seconds) because she's not paying attention and a baseball is about to hit her.

Abby's life is about to change drastically when a man with blue eyes tells her not to go to the meeting with her future self. (did I mention that everything is regulate about their lives, down to their genetics? If someone has a recessive gene for anything they consider abnormal, like blue eyes, they make it so that the person with the gene can't pass on the blue eyes gene to their children).

Abby goes, and things are weird from the start because it doesn't go how is should. It's technically not her birthday, but she was told to go that day anyway. After the trouble she has to go through to have the meeting, she notices something is fishy immediately. Her future self is being very vague, she's not acting like Abby normally does. She's telling her not a whole lot about her future, just that she should drop 'Elanor', her friend, which she never addresses like that because she knows Elli doesn't like it. Her future self sounds very fake and doesn't give any definitive answers.

Abby gets told some world changing news by the blue-eyed guy and his brother, later revealed to be named Kaden and Memphis respectively. She also gets told that their overseers, the EA, have lied about a whole lot, like about the zombies that are supposedly outside the barriers surrounding their colony.

There were small parts that I didn't like, but I don't know whether it's from just being confused over it, or because one thing was said, but another happened. It was confusing.

Like, Abby was taken to the rebel's colony by Kaden and Memphis. It was let known to her that people wouldn't be accepting of her being there, especially their father. Abby gets the choice of whether she wanted to leave or to go, and she chose to go. She begins to leave but her future self shouts at her, "Don't you dare go home!", and it seems like she gets tazered and falls unconscious. And the next chapter has Abby saying that she willingly choose to stay.

Also, there's one part where the author put Compliment, instead of Complement. And awkward sentence structure, like, " She zinged her eyes at me and captured me." I think there could've been a better way to say that lana looked at Abby and Abby paid particular attention to her eye color.

In the end, it seems like Abby moved from Brighton and from under EA's watchful eye to another constrictive colony where everyone watch carefully monitored and didn't leave and obeyed the rules. It seems very redundant and not much of a rebellion rather than people choosing to live somewhere where they got to do the things they wants, like not be forcefully sterilized. Which I understand, but it seems like the rebellion colony is just as restricted as Brighton.

Also, it doesn't seem likke Abby knew just what she was getting into. She was told a bunch of negetive things about the EA but it never seems like it amounted to this great evil to top all evils. She keeps switching from wanting to stay, then wanting to leave and blame her staying on others that aren't her. It doesn't seem like she understands herself and needed to think harder and longer on the decision to stay than she did.

I didn't really care for the romance in the book, it didn't seem like it belonged there, as Abby is easily swayed by all these blue-eyed cute guys being introduced to her, like Van. He introduces himself to her, and she's instantly swayed by his behavior towards her, how she thinks he's a gentlemen while Memphis and Kaden are more unruly. Abby instantly has a harem of guys fawning over her because girls are scarce. I also didn't like that certain things were considered a woman's job, a girlie thing. Really? I don't understand why certain chores, like cooking, cleaning, baking, hobbies like knitting are labeled as a female thing, and a 'frou frou' girlie thing as well.

Over all I really enjoyed this, it was a nice refresher from a lot of the insta-love dystopians that I've read.

I was seriously looking forward to this book once I heard it had zombies in it, but imagine my surprise when I start reading it and there were minimal zombies in it! I was kinda disappointed lol! I was expecting a zombie apocalypse or something lol! So in fairness, the plot of this book was very different to what I was expecting, but I really enjoyed it! This book was about time travel, which I normally don't like in books, romance and a little bit of zombies added into the mix! Yes, the zombies came into it near the end lol! The plot was pretty fast-paced and really interesting! It was also very unique! I don't think I've read anything quite like it before, which made me enjoy it that little bit more! There were also plenty of twist and turns to keep me wanting to read on and find out what was going to happen next! I do have to say that the plot did kind of confuse me during the big scene at the end! I felt there was a lot in it and I found myself having to read every word to understand it all! This could just have been me though lol! I loved the plot though and I loved how unique it was! The characters were amazing! Abby was the main character and she was kinda kick-ass in this book! Well, from about 70% onwards! At the beginning of this book, Abby thought she was safe and living in a secure environment, but it was all false! She was the person in the most danger and it only took one guy to show her just how much danger she was in! Abbey always sort of knew that something wasn't quite right where she was living, but she didn't know just how messed up it was! I really enjoyed Abby's character! I thought she handled all the information that was thrown at her really well and she threw herself into the firing line to protect the people she loved and cared for, which is something I really admired about her! Kaden was the love interest of Abbey and he was so freaking cute! I just adored him! I loved how protective he was of Abby and I could see that he had strong feelings for her! Kaden revealed some secrets about his relationship with Abbey in this book and I can say that I didn't see them coming! I definitely think it strengthened his relationship with Abbey though! Kaden was such a sweet guy and he showed this again and again in this book! I also loved that he risked his life and exposing his people to warn Abbey of the danger she was in! That was so hot! There was also a bit of a love triangle in this book between Abby, Kaden and Kaden's brother, Memphis, but it didn't last the full book, which I loved! It added a lot to the plot though and I was Team Kaden all the way through this book! I thought Memphis was an okay character until he showed his true colours! I'm excited to read the next book in this series! I know that this book wasn't what I expected, but I can't wait to see what's going to happen next and how things are going to develop! Plus, the ending of this book was a pretty big cliff-hanger! The cover for this book is absolutely stunning! It's actually what first attracted me to it! The colouring and the whole cover suits the book perfectly! Big thank you to Brenda for a copy of Glitch and also for having me on her Blog Tour!

On her eighteenth birthday, Abby decides to meet her future self in a once in a lifetime meeting despite the warning from a curious rebel who snuck inside city walls to warn her against it. Guess she should've listened. Before now, her leap year birthday kept her off their radar, which was advantageous since she was destined to be someone the government would love to sink their claws into. Turns out Abby is an oracle just like her future self, but they gain their prophetic sights by literally jumping through time. Her future self did a good job hiding her younger self, but now that Abby's on the radar again, that mysterious guy has to step in and sneak her out of the city before it's too late.

Glitch actually surprised me. It seemed a mix of Delirium and the movie In Time with a splash of zombies for good effect. A fish out of water story, a good chunk of this novel dealt with Abby learning how to deal with rebel life without the luxuries she was used to and trying to figure out what was truth and what was fiction, because at times, even the rebels seemed a little dishonest. I enjoyed watching her fall for a pair of brothers but I have to admit I was rooting for a particular one to win her heart! This novel had a little bit of everything - romance, danger, corrupt government, even time travel and a zombie infection fighting to spread and take over again. Enjoyable read, and I'm looking forward to the follow-up Switch.

Review: 2 out of 5 stars

Glitch is the first book in the Lost in Time series and started off promising, I was intrigued by the unique concept but unfortunately it failed to wow me in the end.

Eighteen year-old Abigail lives in Brighton, behind a wall where the threat of the undead lives; she was to meet her Complement – her future self but received a strange note from a stranger warning her not to attend, the mystery had me curious from the onset but the moment Abby left Brighton and was taken to the forbidden zone everything went downhill, the biggest reason = a severe case of insta-love, she literally fell for Kaden, her kidnapper from the get go.

Abby prior to Kaden was obsessive about checking her date of death watch, she was flirtatious with her best friends brother and she lived by the rules but it all went out the door the moment she fell for Kaden, despite also having feelings initially for his brother Memphis who I did find quite appealing. She was one of those girls who attracted all the boys attention and acted before she thought things through, it was too much.

I think this book could have been amazing but the execution was a let-down; the time travel aspect was jumpy and the lack of details when it came to the complex world Brenda Pandos was trying to build was missing, I was completely baffled by how Abby ‘who was special’ was jumping from one time sequence to the next as well as the background on the sasquatches, glitches and zombies, it didn’t come together smoothly for me at all and I think the Oracle aspect needed further explanation.

This book just wasn’t for me unfortunately, from characters who I didn’t like to a disjointed plot and confusing world-building, it is a series I won’t be continuing with.

Overall, it pains me to rate this book 2 stars as it has received a number of 5 star Goodreads reviews, I think I'm getting a little fussy with dystopians these days after reading so many amazing series.

I underestimated this book. I thought:
URGH zombies.
But no. No no. No. This book was so much more. It dealt with time travel and future-selves and much more. I haven't read any books dealing with time so this was so new and intriguing for me.
Brenda Pandos is a brilliant author and I love her writing style and technique.
It had it's share of swoon-worthy boys and awesome other characters. I loved Landon as a character and thought he was really unique.
I thought the plot was awesome! I did not expect 95% of what happens in this book. I loved the direction this book was taking from the start.
But, of course, no book is perfect. This book did have a few patches where I thought not much was happening or too much was happening and it was hard to take in.

Overall, I recommend this book to all YA readers and think they will enjoy this read immensely.

What can I say but that I absolutely loved this book. This is a different storyline that I have ever read. You have Zombies, time travel and plot twist like no other book written. Don't forget there is a romance that blossoms in the mist of everything else that goes on. Just be ready to be wowed with everything you read in this book. The characters are strong and will keep you entertained from the beginning to the end. Brenda Pandos never fails to entertain me with all of her wonderful books that she has written.

I seriously have got to stop reading books as they are just coming out! This was a great book. It tied my love of dystopian societies and time travel in to 1. Brenda Pandos is really developing as a writer. I have read other books of hers but this is by far my favorite! Now if only she would write book #2 faster- I am dying with anticipation!

Time travel is something that I normally love to read about. The idea is simply fascinating to me. The very thought of travelling into the past, or even the future, excites me - probably, a little more than it should! It was only yesterday, in fact, that I was having a bit of a umm, well, discussion *cough* argument *cough* with a guy in my maths class about some of the finer details of it. We didn't agree on the details of the "time ripple" that would occur if someone was to travel into the past / future and influence a decision there that would led to a change back in the past / future etc. Anyway, getting back on track, let's just say that I rather enjoy time travel.

Glitch however bought time travel to shame. Brenda Pandos really needed to research more when attempting to construct her rather complicated system of time travel because it just didn't work. It contradicted itself so many times that I lost count and it was simply impossible to follow what was happening. I had no idea how Abby "jumped" through time, I had no idea how it worked with futures, pasts and presents that just didn't connect and I had no idea who and what came from which time period (past, present or future?) or just anything really! I was simply baffled when it came to the last few chapters where Abby decided all of a sudden that she had these time-travelling powers and then - bam! We were thrown into all this confusing time travel stuff and I just gave up.

The zombie element didn't help me understand either. How did the past have zombies yet the present didn't but it was the future that had the cure? Why didn't half the present believe there even were such things as zombies when there actually was? Wait, was there? Or were they in the past only? But now are they in the present or is it the future?... I honestly couldn't follow it all, everything was a blur of different times with different zombie statuses and I just got confused.

The characters were just... gah! We have yet another female protagonist that has every breathing male in sight lusting after her because of her oh-so-hot looks when she doesn't seem all that remarkable at all really. She then has to string along two brothers at a time (is it really so hard to pick one?) and goes from hating one and loving the other to the other way around. It was stupid, petty and just damn right annoying.

Abby was far too stupid and naïve for me to really like her character. She acted like a four-year-old half the time, throwing temper tantrums when she didn't get what she wanted and complaining the rest of the time. Kaden wasn't much better. I am so over the moody and brooding persona now - its become far too cliché and dull.

Glitch ended up being a real disappointment. I wasn't impressed by the characters or the plot. The ending was left open for the next book - Switch - but I don't know if I could muster enough enthusiasm to read it. We will have to see...

If you are looking for a good time travel book, I would recommend you to check out TimeRiders instead or if you were interested in Brenda Pandos' work I much preferred her Everblue.

Wow!! I am completely blown away by this book! Definitely not what I expected. This is the first book that I've read by Brenda Pandos and I am definitely going to read her other novels.

This story is so unique and freaking amazing! I will admit the story started off a little slow for me but I gave it a chance and I'm so glad I did. Now this is the first dystopian novel that I've read so it's completely out of ordinary for me. The story revolves around Abby who thinks her life is the best it can be. She's safe, living in the nice and perfect city of Brighton, and can't wait til her 18th birthday to finally explore all of the great things life has to offer and meet her future self. But then a gorgeous, blue eyed, mystery man shows up and warns Abby that her life is not what it seems and she's in terrible danger. Since that moment, her life turns upside down and the plot twists and turns in so many ways, it's a never-ending roller coaster.

The connection between Abby and Kayden is so genuine, honest, loving, and just damn perfect. He truly cared for her and oh man..he gave me some butterflies. This book has it all! Action, suspense, a little bit of horror, romance (of course), time travel, and even zombies!!! How can you not like this book??!?? This story will make you second guess everything and some scenes where shocking that you will not see it coming! The only thing that I didn't enjoy is the cliffhanger (yes I hate those). Other than that, I recommend this book to all YA sci-fi fans!

Good enough to keep me reading and trying the next book, but the truth is that there were so many glaring plot holes and inconsistencies. Almost nothing ever ended up making sense or being explained. And I guess that was why I kept reading…just to get the answers. And then by the end of the book, we still know nothing and are left clueless.

It could have been really good, but it needs an editor and beta readers and a TON of work to bring it up to par.

Title: Glitch
Author: Brenda Pandos
Publisher/Year: Obsidian Mountain Publishing 1/31/14
Length: 260 Pages
Series: Lost in Time #1

Overview

Blue Eyes and his illegal slip of paper are about to shatter Abby's perfect world.

When a mysterious guy from the forbidden zone sneaks a note to a beautiful young girl from Brighton, she must decide if she should turn him in or follow what the note says.

Eighteen-year-old Abby has no trouble following Brighton's rules. For one, she's OCD about checking her Date of Death clock latched to her wrist, making sure her decisions never shorten her lifetime, and two, she enjoys the peace Brighton has to offer. But when her best friend returns from her Advice Meeting--a glimpse into the future--shell shocked and won't tell Abby what's happened, she's worried what awaits her meeting in a few days. The stranger with blue-eyes warned her not to go, but does Abby dare enter the forbidden zone to get answers? Or is she doomed to live the life her glimpse is about to show her?

My Thoughts

What do we have here. A bit of Dystopia and a bit of sci-fi fantasy - all rolled into one. Interesting mix right? We start off in a time where there's a world inside of a bubble (or walls if you want to be technical) because those who live inside are the survivors - people who were either The Chosen or who were deemed to have value to society after the attack or outbreak of a virus turned people into zombies. The people who live in the walls now are the descendants (and some are actual survivors) - trying to live their lives as they were laid out. Each person in this life has a DOD watch - a watch that provides them with their date and time of death so that they know what they need to do to increase their lifespan or what they are doing to make it decrease.

We meet Abby when she's just 'coming of age' in a sense - she's finally at that age when she's allowed to meet her 'Compliment' - her future self...odd right? This is where the sci-fi bit comes in. at the age of 18, you're able to have a 10 minute conversation with your future self to see what you will become and all of that. What makes things complicated is that the day before Abby is set to go, she takes a tumble while playing baseball and meets the most beautiful blue eyed boy who gives her a note that says 'don't meet your compliment'. Blue eyes are taboo for some reason and well, no one doesn't want to meet their compliment - so abby's all out of sorts.

She goes anyway, and this is where she learns that she's a glitch. Her name isn't on the board and things get more strange from there. After she's met a compliment, she's leaving only to overhear whispered voices saying 'that was close'. So she's thinking that something's up.

Fast forward a night or 2 when she and her best friend Elle have decided that Blue Eyes is from outside of the walls and that they have to find him and their plans just get more and more complicated since their escape route is found out and they have to re-plan. While that would be enough, Abby is then kidnapped and taken over the wall and that is where the story really gets good for her. Much more sci fi to come.

Outside the walls, Abby is enlightened to learn that what she was taught all her life isn't really the truth, it's what the society and government want people to believe to keep them in order. Maybe there were no zombies - the people outside have never seen them. Life outside the walls is quite amazing too - the land is great, there's so much air and freedom - and those are all things that Abby was led to believe aren't the truth.

If that wasn't enough, she learns that she's valuable to the government since she's.....'The Oracle'. I don't know about anyone else, but all of these things just take us a bit too far in the fantasy direction. anyhow - the oracle has the ability to time jump and well, jumping through time they all go.

I'm going to stop there since we're really going all over the place. while there's a lot of great stuff going on here, i'm still not sure where i want to classify this book - as dystopia or Fantasy - so i'm leaving that up to you. what we do have though is a great YA romance since we see Abby and Blue Eyes begin to realize that there's a connection - and we see that there's more to the world than Abby and the folks in Brighton were taught which is exactly what we hope for in this genre. There's a bit of confusion throughout though which is intentional i know - that Abby's compliment keeps getting called Anna - and it's only in the last statement in this first installment that we find out why - and i guess the intention is to make it a cliff-hanger which it does, but now i'm also confused.

So - all in all, i'd say that the shell is a good one - i'm into it, i'm just not sure what i'm supposed to think genre wise so i'm a bit all over the place. Oh well - decent enough to read though if you guys are interested in something new that's YA, Dystopian / Sci-fi.

**I received a free copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review**

Solid 4 ½ stars!!

How would you like to be able to have a visit with your future self…what would you be doing twenty years in the future, who would you marry, how many children would you have? For 18 year old Abigail “Abby” Masterson, living behind the safety and security of the walls of Brighton – to keep alive and well from the zombies that are running uncontrollably around outside the walls and would like nothing more than to have another midnight snack like her. When there was a supposed zombie-apocalypse several years in the past, Abby’s parents had been lucky to be some of “The Chosen” that would be given the oral antidote after the outbreak of the virus that killed so many people, and were taken behind the protective walls of Brighton and governed by the Elected Agency or EA. They have many comforts and conveniences, such as their DOD watches that showed them based off of their decisions and experiences how long they would live.

But the day before Abby’s visit with her future self or Complement as they call them, a blue eyed stranger passes her an illegal message on a slip of paper that tells her not to go to her Complement meeting…and ever the rule follower she is, Abby struggles with the possibility that it’s a test from the EA. So despite the young (handsome) blue eyed boys message, Abby proceeds to her meeting the next day – and of course it’s nothing like she expected it to be (not to mention the staff all acts oddly before and afterward once they realize she was born in a leap year). Afterward, with the help of her best-friend Elle, they look for the mystery “Blue Eyes” on the security cameras in Elle’s brother’s apartment. But all they see are furry looking bears – but no suspicious people lurking around.

So when Abby is awakened by her neighbor’s dog in the middle of the night, and she goes to the window to shush it – she sees Blue Eyes down the street, peering up at her window. And when she starts to panic, she turns smack into none other than a Yeti – who kidnaps her, along with the mysterious Blue Eyes and removes her from the protected world of Brighton. Upon stopping, the young man (Blue Eyes) won’t tell her anything about why he’s taken her, only to tell her that he’d warned her not to attend her Complement meeting and he is just trying to keep her safe. Enter Memphis, who then gives a name to the Blue Eyed kidnapper, Kaden. He tries to make light of the situation – accept for when he is scolding his brother, who is none other than her kidnapper, the handsome blue-eyed young man Kaden.

Feeling so lost at why Kaden took her, she is soon thrown into a world that she thought was the world of the past – of freedom and lies told at the hand of the EA and Brighton officials. But what would it cost her to go back to Brighton, her family and friends, and all she has ever known? Should she stay with the mysterious Kaden and Memphis, are they trustworthy, or not?

I enjoyed this as a nice change of pace from the normal “teen” books that are out there right now. It was a very creative world with imaginative characters and contraptions in it…and of course with the whole zombie-apocalypse aspect, that kicked the story up to a whole other level. I think the story was well developed for the most part, but once some time traveling came into play, it was REALLY hard to follow the who, the where, and even at times, who was where. I am very much looking forward to seeing how Abby and Kaden’s stories progress in the next book – good start to a creative new series!

My thanks to NetGalley and All Night Reads for an eARC of this book to read and review.

*SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT*

Many of the negative reviews for this book mention that the time travel aspect of this book was handled rather poorly and I have to agree. It seems to me that the MC is not only traveling through time, but also between at least two different parallel universes, as the "timelines" she is in are different. The biggest example, zombies in one and not in the other. The language used to describe the jumping isn't clear and it is also confusing to the MC on more than on occasion.

Another reviewer said that the "Oracle" wasn't introduced until about 24% into the book and then everyone acted like it was common knowledge, but it wasn't mentioned at all until then and then it was a HUGE plot point. I agree with that reviewer, the "Oracle" wasn't brought up in a way that made sense to me.

Love triangle. Annoying. Soulful blonde guy, his moody dark haired brother. Neither are completely upfront and honest with her. Love triangles can be done well in my opinion and this book crosses the ok to not ok line with me. It wasn't as bad as some books, it doesn't completely take over the plot, but it is there at less than appropriate times on occasion.

This book suffers from what I call "Harry Potter-itis", where those with the answers don't tell the MC who is supposed to save everyone what is going on, so the MC bumbles about and does stupid things, making the book longer than it has to be.

I can't complain that the evil bad guy is the only dumb one, because they all are. I also don't understand how if he is a contemporary of the MC's parents, how he's so much older looking than they are in the MC's "timeline". I'm also shaky on how he was infected with the zombie virus and brought it back.

And that's another thing. If Brighton was supposed to be a haven from the zombies and they had all of these memorized rules about what to do during a zombie outbreak, how did it get so bad so quickly in the EA compound? And if the EA had the power to stop the zombies in their tracks, why didn't they do it a LOT sooner so less people died/were turned? And why couldn't Anna jump when she was with Abigail and no bad guys were around to keep her there? I must have skipped the part where she had the "no-jump" handcuffs on her, but Jim could have removed them before he left the office if she had them on.

The ending left WAAAAY more questions than answers and that annoyed the heck out of me. I was ok with the abrupt ending, but what Anna said to Abby was an unnecessary curve ball.

Honestly, this wasn't a bad book, but I had to force myself to keep picking it up and trying to plow through it. I will echo another reviewer who said she was glad that it wasn't as long as she thought it was. It has an excerpt from another of the author's works at the back, so the book proper doesn't go to 100%, it's somewhere in the 80-90% range, which I appreciated. Again, not horrible, but not the best of the dystopian/zombie/time & parallel universe travel/YA books out there. The second book may help to clear some of the questions up, but with the plot holes and all around busy-ness in this one, I'm not going to go out of my way to read it.

My review:
I did not just read this book, I CONSUMED it! Glitch is well-written page turner with creative world and lovable characters and with a plot which keeps twisting your mind.

Plot:

You meet Abby, a girl who is getting 16 and is looking forward to meeting her 35 years old future self for a meeting where she has a chance to as her future self questions. Just before the meeting Abby gets a message from a blue-eyed boy, that under no circumstances should she go to the meeting. The reactions and the answers she is getting are far from satisfying. In the same time, Abby's friend Elle is getting Abby into dangerous activities which are forbidden in Elected Agency. Paper is forbidden, going outside the walls of Elected Agency is not forbidden, not wearing the Date of Death watch is not allowed either, and Elle is a friend who gets Abby, who is law obeying girls, into trouble. One night, things change drastically, she is getting kidnapped by the blue-eyed boy and Abby must decide what she believes and face who she is.

I loved the world author created. It's dystopian, there are rumors of zombies even though nobody ever saw one, there are stories about the outside world on the other side of the walls. At the same time, the world Abby is living in Elected Agency area is very high tech and everything is electronically stored, there are gadgets and widgets which are very advanced. Then there are people who can time travel and have visions. So, the author is combining different genres and creating a world which is fascinating and it's interesting to read about.

Besides that, I loved the pacing and action int the book. First, the pace is normal, like waiting something to happen. And WHEN it happens, it blows your mind and the pages are turning quicker and quicker, because you want to know what's going to happen next. And it blows your mind!

Characters:

I loved Abby! She is cautious and suspicious first. She is not big adventurer, she likes order and rules, because she is used to it and it is safe. When she comes outside and sees the other part of the world, all her understandings and values are shattered with the truth. She is very brave when facing her fate. She is also cute as a teenager, having emotional insecurity and tantrums and I enjoyed how she grew as a character. And she had to grow up quite quickly and becomes a young woman who is not afraid to deal with her future.

I adored Kaden, the blue eyed boy. I liked how he was careful around Abby in the beginning, like testing the waters and yet, how he ached for Abby, learning to trust her. I think the author did a great job developing Abby's and Kaden's relationship. It's not an insta love and there is also another guy - Kaden's brother. Luckily it ever becomes a love triangle which I was very grateful for.

There were many supportive characters, starting from Kaden's brother, Elle and her brother Landon. They all had spark and sassyness which I really enjoyed.

Generally:

I loved Glitch! It was a fun read and I would recommend it all NA lovers! I can't wait to the sequel!

More reviews (and no fluff) on the blog http://surrealtalvi.wordpress.com/

Here we are treading several genres: dystopian, romance, YA, and time travel. And as with the saying too many cooks spoil the soup, so too does it feel like the author tried to do a little too much in this story. The concept of your future self guiding your present self, all controlled by a dystopian evil government (aren't they all?) is an interesting premise but the lack of layered and nuanced writing, as well as a 'too dumb to live' main character really let the story down. Call this dystopian fatigue - there are much better books out there and this one really failed to live up to expectations.

In Abigail's dystopian world, everyone knows when they will die and are given 15 minutes with their future self when they become of age. When Abi goes to meet her future self, she realizes quickly something isn't roght. Well telegraphed plot points will tell us that Abi is a very special unique snowflake and the evil, but very stupid, dystopian government is going to want to get her. For killing Abi in the past will mean that her future self won't destroy the government. Along the way she'll meet a blue eyed boy hiding outside the boundaries of her city just waiting for the chance to meet her. And all the young men will hit on her because she's so beautiful and special.

For a story like this, we really do need a credible villain. And we need a heroine who can put 2 and 2 together without freaking out or overreacting and stomping off in a huff (or getting jealous of the girls staring at her cute mysterious blue eyed boy). Plot points are plopped heavily into the beginning and there is no mystery to the story; rather, we are left wondering how a) the government never figured out who she was and took action immediately and b) how she never figured it out when her future self could time travel and just tell her. It's yet another case where it only takes one person actually saying what is going on so everyone can act accordingly. But then again, if that happened, the story would be over in 10 pages.

I really didn't enjoy this book and will not be continuing. There are much better dystopian out there and this really feels like it is riding on the coattails of the dystopan popularity without bringing anything new to it.

OUT's Review

At a Glance:
Be ready to sit and not put down the book pretty much once you begin reading Glitch. I knew it was Dystopian going in but it contains so much more.

Glitch is the story of a girl that is excited to see her future self and ask questions of what is to come. But like all good fiction books, things are never that easy. The girl gets a message from this blue eyed boy that tells her to skip the meeting. What is the girl to do, believe a stranger or do what she has been wanting to do for a long time. Of course during this process her friend has her doing things she shouldn't be doing. They are definitely up to no good. While doing these forbidden things something unexpected happens and the future is now changed forever. The girl must face and decided what must happen from now on.

Cover:
The cover does make you wonder what the story is about before you dive in to read it. You notice the girl but she is transparent standing next to the guy and they are both looking out to the city that seems to be floating across the beautiful sea.

Action:
TONS of it! It starts you on like if you are getting ready to do a run but you get warmed up first because once the action takes off, you better have some real good running shoes, if not you will be left behind. The action will definitely keep you attached to this book.

Heroine/Hero:
Abby, she rocks! She gets the heroine award for facing everything that was new and different and unexpected bravely. She had to forget about how she lived before and now look forward and deal with everything she discovered.

Romance:
When you have a boy with blue eyes, you know the romance has to be there. It wasn't at first but slowly it build up and you could feel how much Kaden pined for Abby.

Something I Loved:
I loved everything about this book. Pandos created an amazing story that combines several genres, keeping you hooked from the get go. The characters are awesome, full of snark. It's a story like you haven't read before. And that's big coming from me that I have read many many books.

Would I Recommend:
ABSOFREAKINGLUTELY!!! Pandos outdid herself with Glitch. I love her other series but I think Glitch has moved up to the top of my favorite book written by Brenda.

Glitch by Brenda Pandos

Abby is finally turning eighteen and that means that she should soon get to meet her compliment, the older version of herself. She is excited to meet her and even when someone with blue eyes (people aren't supposed to have blue eyes in her society) warns her not to go to the meetings. She still ends up going and she is not happy about what she finds out. She is determined to find the blue eyed person who warned her about going to the meeting and find out what EA might be planning.

EA reminded me right away of the Sims, which I know is weird, but it's still what it reminded me of. Anyway I found the concept of this book to be interesting. I was especially curious why they didn't want people to have blue eyes. This was what I wanted to find out more than anything else in this novel. I also found the watch that could predict when someone dies to be very interesting.

I love zombies so I was excited that they were in this novel. I wish that they had a bigger part, though. Still, I'm also glad that the whole novel wasn't just fighting zombies because even I would find that to be boring and not much of a plot.

The time travel in this novel is handled decently, but I wish that it had been in more of the novel to. It's only in a bit and that makes it confusing. I'm sure that it will be in some of the later novels since it's obvious that it's going to be important. Still, I would have liked more in this novel .

One thing that I noticed which isn't big but still annoyed me was one character was told she didn't have blue eyed genes, but then she has a blue eyed child. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm like 99 percent sure that brown eyed parents have to have blue eyed genes to have a blue eyed child even if one of the partners has blue eyes.

Overall I would give this book 3.5 out of five but I am feeling nice today so I am going to round it up to four. I think I might read some of the later books in this series because there is still lots of things that I am curious about.

This review and more on So Bookalicious

The United States has been destroyed many years ago. But from its ashes Brighton has risen. It seems like a perfect little country. Enhanced technology, almost no crime and thanks to the DOD (Death of Dead) watches you know exactly how long you have to live and which situations you can better avoid if you want to live longer. The rules are simple, follow the rules and never go outside the wall. Behind the wall everything is uncontrollable, zombies roam the lands and diseases threaten everyone who is still alive. At least that’s what Abby has always been told. Until a blue-eyed boy changes her life forever.

The first hundredth pages I was really into this book. Enough things happened to catch my interest, the world concept of the book was rather interesting and I liked the characters. Abby is a girl that has always followed the rules in her life. But one single moment changes everything and she has rather a hard time accepting it. She tries to fight it even though she knows that her whole life was basically a lie and that she’s better off now. After a while tough I got a tad annoyed with Abby. She claimed to have this instant connection with Kaden, and he with her, while she hated his guts at the beginning of the book. Clearly Memphis, Kaden’s brother, was into her for a legitimate reason. He spent a lot of time with Abby, while she got used to her life outside the wall, while Kaden was nowhere in sight. Still she was irritated with him, and not Kaden, while all he did was being nice while Kaden was, let’s face it, a total jerk. So yeah I couldn’t really follow her reasoning. Other than that I had no problem with any of the characters whatsoever.

Glitch is one of those stories that starts of strong, lacks of a bit in the middle, and then at the ending all the action happens. For my taste the ending happened a little too fast, suddenly a lot of new things were revealed and it was a little hard a times to follow the story line. And the book left me with even more questions than I had at the beginning of the book.

Overall a decent book, certainly if you are interested in reading Sci-Fi/Dystopian. While I might not have been blown away by Glitch I’m still going to read the second book in this series because it just has to much potential.

Glitch is the first book in the new Lost in Time series.

In this Dystopian society everyone knows exactly when they are going to die and they are constantly reminded because they all were so called DOD (Day of Death) watches. Life is seemingly perfect in Brighton as long as you are a good citizen and stay inside the walls, for the rest of the world is filled with zombies. Yes, zombies.

The start was really promising. I started reading and liked the idea of the watches immediately. They are not just a constant reminder of how long you still have to live, it also reacts on decisions you make. So, if you're about to do something stupid that will cost you your life, you can see it on the watch. Also, when you're really stressed out, you can see it takes some time of your remaining lifespan. Creepy, but very interesting.

Abby starts like all the Dystopian main characters, believing in the world that has been created and the rules. This changes after she meets a blue-eyed boy (for some reason they really don't like blue eyes) who's apparently from the zombie zone. He gives her a slip of paper (paper has been banned, I'm not quite sure why). Unfortunately, although Abby might be immune to the zombie virus she's far from immune to the love triangle virus that roams YA these days. I wish they could find a cure for that.

That was a turning point for me in the book. Not just because I really can't stand love triangles, but also because afterwards the focus of the story was far more on the romantic subplot. And when that seemed settled, the story turns even more chaotic by introducing time travel (that's cool though) and the zombies that were lurking around the corner all book.

The ending was a bit disappointing because it was no ending at all. As I've seen a bit too often lately, the book stops almost mid-sentence to offer the opportunity of a sequel and push the readers into buying it. However, I still enjoyed reading it (especially the first part) and part of me really wants to know how the story continues.

This YA book has it all. Meet Abby an eighteen year old living in Brighton, a futuristic city where they wear DATE OF DEATH watches. The city is such a peaceful place . Until the day her friends come back from her advice meeting. She won't tell Abby anything. The same day she meets a blue eyed stranger with a ominous message for Abby. Will Abby live the ideal life the persons in charge have deemed for her or will she choose to follow the blue eyed boy into the zombie zone to her true destiny

Oh my where to start on this book . It has everything zombies , young love, yetis and a dsypotian society. The story reminds me somewhat hunger games and divergent . They are in societies where they are taken away if different . They like everyone to be the same and if you are different you are frowned on.

The characters are so fun to read. Abby is a reluctant heroine . She thinks of things in different ways. She wants to go with the rules but part of her just wants to know everything that is going on. She truly fights with her inner self about what she is doing. She is just a little OCD when it comes to keeping her eye on her DATE OF DEATH watch . She turns out to be brave when it counts .

Kaden the blue eyed boy , loved how he wanted to trust Abby but at first he was kind a trying to keep Abby at arms reach. Testing the water so to speak. Really seeing if she worth trusting. As they start to trust each other, Well romance blooms between them, they are such a sweet couple.

Then there are the zombies and yetis . Well Abby met the yeti as he was stealing her away. The zombies on the other hand aren't really what they seem.

There is so much packed into this book. It all seamlessly flows together into an action packed book . I was page turning way into the night. The characters were great. Brenda takes us on a ride with so many twists and turns . It may by a YA book but I think that anyone would like this book. So if you want a great read for the summer for your kids or even for yourself . Check it out.

I recommend it to everyone , check it out

Check out this and other reviews on our blog at http://wereadya.blogspot.com/!

The Story: In the not too distant future, Abigail lives a simple life in Brighton. She follows all the rules and allows every choice to be influenced by the Date of Death clock she wears on her wrist. Wrong choice = less time to live. As part of the transition to adulthood, Abby is excited to meet her Compliment (her future self) and glean all the wisdom she can from the experience. Disillusioned by the entire situation, Abby soon realizes that the Brighton leadership is hiding some pretty profound secrets, and unauthorized persons with secret information is considered a threat. Abby discovers she is not the rule-follower she believed herself to be, and she's willing to do whatever it takes to protect those she loves. Government secrets, romance, and friendship all weight heavily into Abby's tale...and then there are the zombies Abby fears so much.

Reaction: Glitch is one of those stories that starts off strong, slows down a bit in the middle, then picks back up as the action starts. Strengths: zombie apocalypse novel told from a feminine perspective, interesting plot twists, zombies, and time travel. Weaknesses: Dare I say this? Too many boys! Other than Kaden, I had a hard time remembering which boy was who. I also found the jumps to different time streams confusing at first. It took some re-reading to keep everything/everyone straight. Lots of new plot elements were introduced right at the end of the novel, too, and I would have liked at least of the major conflicts resolved prior to the conclusion of the novel. I understand that series are all the rage right now, but typically at least one of the conflicts in the story arc are resolved before the next one is introduced. I was left with a lot of questions at the end of this book, and I want some answers! :)

Rating: 3

Teacher Notes: Nice addition to a classroom library. Plentiful of the tropes that are so popular in young adult fiction are present in this fun, little book, so students who enjoy science fiction, zombies, and romance will find Glitch quite entertaining.

I have read a few of Brenda Pandos' books before and really enjoyed them so when I saw she had a new series out I was excited to read it. I knew it was a part one which meant it was probably going to end on a huge cliffhanger (which it did) and that was going to bother me because I am not a fan of that kind of ending, but I had hoped that the characters and story line would be strong enough to get over my immense dislike for the abrupt cliffhanger trend that so many authors are using right now. Sadly, that wasn't the case.

Rating 1.5 stars

Glitch had an interesting premise- a virus had hit and only a select few had been saved, those who weren't became zombies. Years later there and the people of Brighton have a pretty ideal life safe behind walls, they have rues they need to follow, but are safe and taken care of, there is even a way for the inhabitants of the saved city to talk to their future selves so they can get advice on how to have the best life possible. Then one day Abby meets a boy who hands her a piece of paper that changes her life. Sound promising right?

My problem with Glitch is that it needed more- 1)More world building and way more history, 2) More character depth- I wanted to know more about what made Abby tick, more about her best friend and her brother, more about the young man who lived outside the walls, etc., etc., 3) More chemistry between the main character Abby and the young man who she claims to have fallen for by the last page of the book- something which really did not work, in my opinion. It wasn't insta-love, but there just wasn't enough there to base any feelings on love on so it still felt flat. Some attraction I could have bought, but love? Sorry, not believable.

What Glitch felt like to me was a rough draft- not a first draft, but not a finished product either. Polished up and expanded on it could be very entertaining, but as is it just didn't impress me. I don't think I'll read any further in the series unless there is an updated Part One first.

Note: I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
