For each and every one of us, facing the future is an ordinary human condition, but what if hidden among the throngs of everyday commonalities were profoundly extraordinary possibilities? Nature, Essence and Creation–the fragile recipe for existence, rests on the balance of a unique trio of hope. Heli Clame doesn't know it yet, but he stands in the wake of a critical paradigm shift of the ages. Coming of age himself during a time of enhanced technology and decades lost to ecological devastation, he arrives at IDEA33 to join two others, Terra Sial and Dous Cistern. Unaware that together they hold the key to a positive evolution for the future here on earth, they soon learn their true identity and why they were created. The balance of all life on earth rests on the strength of their unity. Only then will they have the power to initiate a Regeneration.

This was worth the read and a good beginning for any first time author. I’m particularly impressed because this is an independent title. I’ve not had the best of luck with self-published titles, but this one stands above the rest.
The quick and dirty of it, if you like soft sci-fi and YA give this a read.
My rating is still a solid 3, because there were things I didn’t like about it (my system goes 4 for loved all around and 5 for favorites.) I want to get that out of the way first.
Stylistically, it’s fat.
Redundancy, bloated sentence and word-swaps.
If a wheelchair is a wheelchair call it a wheelchair. The world swapping was confusing and doesn’t stay consistent (someone finally does call it a “wheelchair.”) Bloat also just adds to confusion and slows down the reading; tripping on unnecessary words. Redundancy happens and sometimes for good reason. Saying “She felt like this” and then “She said, ‘I feel like this.’” is not a good reason.
I’m not a big fan of a lot of jargon either, but these are all wrinkles and, maybe, style choices.
Moving on to murky grounds, if you’re a hard science sci-fi type this is not your cup of tea. It’s soft sci-fi bordering on mystic/fantasy. Being a tech gadget nerd, the ‘80s realization of technology was disappointing (it’s a distopia, I know.) Star Wars hover crafts, Jetsons tubes and Tetris data cubes. And, for some reason, Zuke.
And here’s what I liked about it: pretty much everything else. It’s a great starting point. This book is solid and intelligent in design. The decisions made here were careful and precise. Above all, I’m a person for characters and every character was well drawn out and believable. Even with characters in the background I felt like there was depth. I liked Justin, though it’s hard to follow his reasoning to his actions being the shadow he is. I think my favorite of the main trio ended up being Dous. I liked Heli and Terra, but the relationships developed kind of made me gag. I don’t know what it is about Dous, but he seemed so painfully authentic at times. Sometimes his jokes seem to have an edge on them that’s never explored, but it’s there. Nonetheless, the development of the relationships was strategical; I could appreciate it for that.
Then there’s the plot. It was excellent. It was smart, well constructed and with its fair share of mystery. The plot remained compelling and significant to the end. The majority of the book was dedicated to character interaction, their growth and bonding then the action begins to pick up. It’s fun to be propelled by just the characters and their surroundings. I felt like it followed the diagram for a mystery, which was fun and different.
I definitely want to look into the next installment. I think this will be a good series to follow.
Note: This was a borrowed copy, 2013 edition. I came to know of it through a comic con if I recall right.
This book is amazing and has been in the process of being written for 2 years. Sheala did a good time and my personal favorite character was Terra. Good work I can't wait to read the next one!
