Rate this book
After killing her husband, Angela Chandler flees from New York to California abandoning her nine year old son, Frankie, leaving a cryptic note for him. When no relative will take him in, Frankie becomes a ward of the state and spends his next nine childhood years being bounced from the State Home and various foster homes all the time waiting for Mommy to return and reclaim him. During his time at the Home and other places, he is subjected to physical and sexual abuse. These incidents, plus the failure of his mother to return, turns him bitter and vengeful. However, his relationship with Detective Danny Boyland somewhat restores his good nature and he joins the Navy becoming proficient in computers. Using his new found knowledge he attempts to locate his mother and his search leads him to a trail of murders, a tragic deception when Angela confesses to him that she is not his biological mother, and a renewed search for his real mother. And when he finds her is it love or revenge that drives him, Detective Boyland and the story to its heart-racing, bittersweet conclusion?

Frankie and Danny

This was an awesome read. Mr. Hack sure knows how to keep you glued to his book. I was invested from the very beginning. I felt much of the pain Frankie experienced as well as his friend Officer Danny Boyland.
Frankie is young boy who loses his father through death and his non-biological mom all in a short period of time. He's put through the broken foster parenting system which in turn warps his mind. His search to find his mother further warps his mind and thus turns him into a serial killer.
Danny is the cop who believes Frankies non-biological mother killed his father. They are ever bounded together in foundation of this story that by the end you come to know them intamently. In the final chapters, if you aren't feeling attached to both the writer hasn't fully captured your heart.
I needed tissues to see me through the end. Happy reading!

After killing her husband, Angela Chandler runs away to California, leaving behind her son Frankie. As Frankie has no relatives to take him in, he bounces throughout his entire childhood from one foster home to another, never losing hope that his mother would go back to reclaim him. The author describes the physical and mental abuse that these children are often exposed to. The negative experiences lived by Frankie turn him into somebody in search for vengeance. Detective Danny Boyland is the only person Frankie trusts. When older, Frankie leaves no stone unturned to find his mother. This is one of the worst books I have read recently. Everybody in the story is absolutely looney. I cannot even explain myself why I finished it. Maybe I was infected with something of the sick minds of the characters.

Not thrilled with the amount of child abuse in book.

I enjoyed the overall storyline. However the amount of abuse was over the top. I understand some children go through this but if i knew this upfront I may not have read the book. I enjoy good detective stories and often skimmed through some chapters.

Worth reading .

This is easy reading , I liked the fact that it has been written from the perspective of the various characters in the book over many years . I feel the story lost its way a little bit with the Frank Chandler character . I'm not one for giving spoilers so I can't really explain this in this review . Definitely worth a read .

I loved this book!

The story is written from the perspective of the main characters over several years which helps you better understand where they are coming from.
