Was macht ein Schriftsteller, dessen Romanheld ihm auf Seite 112 eröffnet: »Jetzt will ich mein eigenes Leben führen«? In Jostein Gaarders Erzählung ›Theobald und Theodor‹ weigert sich die Romanfigur, dem Diktat des Autors zu folgen. Theobald versucht stattdessen, den Spieß umzudrehen.

Der Schriftsteller seinerseits glaubt, die Situation fest im Griff zu haben, denn schließlich ist es ja seine Idee gewesen, seinen Romanfiguren so viel Freiheit wie möglich zu lassen. Doch er unterliegt einer gefährlichen Täuschung. Diese sowie neun weitere Erzählungen und elf poetische Kurztexte versammelt Jostein Gaarder in seinem Band ›Der seltene Vogel‹. Den Erzählungen ist gemeinsam, daß in ihnen Grenzen überschritten werden - zwischen Leben und Tod, zwischen Traum und Realität, zwischen Zeit und Unendlichkeit.

Wie in seinen beiden großen Romanen lässt Gaarder auch in diesem Band früher Erzählungen wieder philosophisches Gedankengut wie selbstverständlich mit einfließen. Doch verzichtet er auch hier darauf, dem Leser fertige Antworten zu liefern, stattdessen ermuntert er ihn, selbst Fragen zu stellen und mitzuphilosophieren.

Jostein Gaarder is a Norwegian intellectual and author of several novels, short stories, and children's books. Gaarder often writes from the perspective of children, exploring their sense of wonder about the world. He often uses meta-fiction in his works, writing stories within stories.

Gaarder was born into a pedagogical family. His best known work is the novel Sophie's World, subtitled "A Novel about the History of Philosophy." This popular work has been translated into fifty-three languages; there are over thirty million copies in print, with three million copies sold in Germany alone.

In 1997, he established the Sophie Prize together with his wife Siri Dannevig. This prize is an international environment and development prize (USD 100,000 = 77,000 €), awarded annually. It is named after the novel.

Έχοντας διαβάσει αρκετά άλλα από τον ίδιο συγγραφέα, δεν μπορώ να πω πως δεν απογοητεύτηκα από το συγκεκριμένο βιβλίο, αλλά δεν πειράζει. Πρόκειται για μια συλλογή διηγημάτων, που δεν έχουν κάποιον νοητό άξονα να τις συνδέει - τουλάχιστον εγώ δεν κατάλαβα να έχει. Ξεχωρίζω παρόλα αυτά ορισμένες ιστορίες, όπως "Το χρονοσκάνερ", "Η επίσκεψη του συγγραφέα" και το ομώνυμο!

Essa resenha é uma viajante do tempo. Quem a escreve não é a Gabriela de 32 anos - que é tão somente a facilitadora, e talvez a revisora dessas linhas - mas a Gabriela de 16, para quem esse livro significou um ponto de virada. É a Gabriela de 16 que dá cinco estrelas ao livro, de uma forma que a de 32 não pode contestar, porque ainda consegue sentir os efeitos dos contos.

Toda vez que a Gabriela de 32 pensa que talvez a forma e a narrativa não seja lá muito literária, a Gabriela de 16 me puxa pelo braço e grita: cala essa boca. Ela tem razão, eu preciso reconhecer: um livro favorito não precisa ser boa literatura, no fim das contas.

Eu acabei relendo esse livro hoje enquanto ia atrás de um conto específico: a história de um homem que, revoltado após receber um diagnóstico de doença terminal, resolve quebrar uma loja de cristais em retaliação. Em quantos anos o Gaarder me adiantou o Dylan Thomas? - Em muitos. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Reli todos os contos, um por um. Foi mais forte do que eu, mas faz sentido - todos os contos dessa coletânea no fundo falam sobre a mesma coisa. (Na verdade toda a obra literária de Gaarder, até onde eu li - e mesmo nos livros para jovens - fala sobre a mesma coisa). O assombro de sermos seres conscientes em um universo imenso, a grande tragédia que é a consciência da própria morte, os problemas de definição do que é real e como é que gente lida quando nosso mundo interno entra em choque com o externo.

Eu li O Pássaro Raro pela primeira vez no ano em que meu pai morreu. Mas como meu pai morreu muito devagar (meu pai levou onze anos para morrer, praticamente toda a minha vida consciente, até então) eu tive tempo para pensar na maior parte das questões que o livro levantava, e foi como encontrar finalmente um amigo que me entendesse.

"Consta que o mundo tem muitos anos. Porém raramente ele dura mais de um século. Somos nós que envelhecemos."

Algum livro já chegou na hora certa na sua vida? Se sim, você provavelmente sabe do que estamos falando.

Eu e a Gabriela aos 16 não exatamente indicamos esse livro para outras pessoas que não todas as outras Gabrielas que ainda vamos conhecer. Mas nós precisávamos deixar anotado aqui o que esse livro fez com a gente.

Leitura recomendada pelo meu amigo Otávio para o Day Zero Project #2: Ask 20 friends to suggest one book, and read them all.
A escrita em si é muito boa, já estou buscando a história de Mario e Tosca inclusive. Mas não entendi muito bem a ligação entre os textos, ficou um tanto confuso pra mim. O que é o pássaro raro? A resposta está no começo do livro mas e aí? No mais é o primeiro livro que não idolatro do Gaarder, geralmente me apaixono por todos os livros dele.

Ich bin beeindruckt. Diese Gedankengeschichten stammen aus dem Jahr 1986 und sind erstens sehr aktuell und zweitens sehr visionär.
Gaarder vertritt in diesem Buch gleichzeitig eine sehr optimistische und eine zutiefst negative Sichtweise auf das menschliche Leben.
Und beide Stellungnahmen sind logisch schlüssig und nachvollziehbar. Offensichtlich hat er schon früh intensiv über die Welt, das Leben und unsere Rolle darin nachgedacht

Boah ich weiß nicht. Irgendwie hatte fast alles aus diesem Buch diesen selbstdarstellerischen Unterton des Autors. Sowas geht mir ja schonmal per se mies auf den Sack. Auch inhaltlich habe ich mich dann gefragt, was mir das Buch denn vermitteln könnte, auf das ich nicht ohnehin schon selbst gekommen bin. 2 Sterne, würde ich wirklich nicht nochmal lesen.

Cuando leo a Gaarder, por segundos siento que ya le entendí a Hegel. Luego agarro la onda y me doy cuenta que no entiendo Nada. Hay un par de relatos que para mi gusto brillan con el máximo cinismo escandinavo post-Kundera del orgullo de Oslo.

Me gusta mucho tambien, como están presentes temas muy recurrentes en su obra, como la metafora del bosque, la escritura encriptada y autorreferente. Aunque creo que tengo que leerlo más para entrar mejor en su obsesion con la muerte por cancer o la religion catolica.

Como sea, sus textos premonitorios del web 2.0 son el gran salespitch de este libro. Bien podria ser otro, pero este funciona muy bien. you know, millenialls-wise.

Eita livro chato! Foram as 150 páginas mais longas da minha vida.
Embora o Jostein Gaarder seja o autor predileto da Agnnis Gama e eu tenha gostado muito do Dia do Coringa, este livro é filosófico demais para um cara tão direto quanto eu.
Trata-se de alguns contos curtos. O primeiro é ótimo e o terceiro é bem legal.
Tem um, que já não me lembro em qual ordem aparece, que se chama "O Homem que não queria morrer". Este é bem interessante. Pode agradar muito ou não.
Mas os demais contos são excessivamente chatos! São todos muito subjetivos para o meu gosto.
Pronto para o próximo livro!

Ein Buch, was alles anspricht, womit ich mich zurzeit beschäftige. Aber es kratzt nur auf der Oberfläche herum, hat ein paar schöne Gedankenstränge, die immer wieder neu erzählt werden. Mal aus Sicht einer Krebspatientin, mal aus Sicht einer Romanfigur, mal als Geschichte von zwei unglücklich Verliebten. Schnelle Lektüre für zwischendurch. Aber es ist ja auch sein Debut, deswegen ist es spannend, wie Ideen, die dort schon auftauchen, später von ihm aufgegriffen werden.

I made it to page 123 before I gave up. I would have quit sooner, but I had to order it from another library, pay the fee for said transfer, and it was in German (so pride entered into it). At the end, though, life's too short. Too bad, I liked Das Orangenmädchen.

its the first collections of stories I read by gaarder and it follows the philosophical inclination not entirely present in the novels I had last read. there is the ever present theme of awakening and leaving the illusion of reality for a greater perception of the world. diagnosis, characters from a book, an art critic....it's also a lesson in literary theory if you know what to look for.

wirklich interessant.

Ich muss zwar zugeben, dass dies nicht unbedingt mein Genre ist, aber dennoch haben mich die Geschichten zuweilen sehr gefesselt.

Ich empfehle auf jeden Fall, dieses Buch zu lesen.
Es beinhaltet viele philosophische Fragen, die interessant in Worte gefasst worden.

Amo este libro como el resto de Jostein, muchas historias , todas buenas, pero mi favorita fue Punto de encuentro: Castel Sant'Angelo, no lo vi venir, no acostumbro a leer sobre romance, pero me tocó el corazón esta historia y se que existe como obra de teatro, espero algún día verlo. Sobre la visión futurista que tiene, no la veo muy descabellada.

There are great, very good, good and dull stories in this book. It's the first official work from Gaarder and I liked it a lot. Many of the themes he would later discuss in books like Sophie's World, The Solitary Mystery and Through a Glass, Darkly are already here and that's a bonus for those, like me, who love his works.
