In the wake of Neverland’s destruction, Michael Darling harbors a heart that cannot find its place in the real world. John Darling is haunted by the memories of a native princess’s kiss. Tootles is a Lost Boy well and truly lost. And Wendy Darling writes of longing, and wears a gold button on a chain around her neck that once belonged to a notorious pirate captain.
But the mists are building around Wendy’s world. The storms have returned, and the winds are changing. Strange noises and shifting shadows re-awaken memories of a past they all thought they’d left behind.
Magic is stirring, crossing the boundaries between worlds, opening doors that were never quite locked, and filling the seas with promise – and danger. Something is coming… and it’s not leaving without what it came for.
In this conclusive book in Heather Killough-Walden’s Neverland series, Wendy and her friends face a future none of them ever could have imagined, and learn that everything they can’t find in the real world awaits them once more just past the second star to the right… and straight on ‘til morning.

'Peter Pan was never fully of the "real" world, something more than flesh and blood, something just short of immortal.'
This book is a disaster wrapped in moderately-good writing. The issues of plot, pacing, and romantic arcs gets even worse in here . . . and yet somehow the magic of Neverland still remains as beautifully-captivating as always. However, this seems only written to serve the purpose of giving Hook & Wendy their weird happily ever after.
'It wasn’t a natural approach. Fog didn’t normally move in such a manner. Usually, it sat like a great white cat on the horizon, crouching and waiting for the opportunity to slowly prowl in, heavy and cold. This fog curled in, however, like long locks of hair in the water. Or like magic.'
Thankfully, Neverland can't be killed, and it's back with an odd sort of vengeance that pulls the Darling family and all other related characters back to its familiar shores. But this time there's a twist with an even "eviler" pirate villain which basically seems to exist only to make Hook look better in comparison. There's also a weird plot element of a bad fairy surprisingly connected to Tinkerbell's past . . . and overall, the plot hinges upon romantic elements. Sometimes that works, but in here it was just cringey and too much.
"You shouldn’t have come back to this ship alone,” he told her, reprimanding her softly, like a father to a child . . . like a friend or a lover. “But I knew that you would. And I’m pleased that you did."
(my Peter Pan-themed gif streak is broken for this more accurate response) (but this also works too)
All the problems in the Hook/Wendy pairing in this series is summarized in that horrifically troubling sentence. Wendy becomes little more than something to be objectified and used by Hook, slammed up against a wall and handled roughly . . . all without any form of consent beyond the fact that she came to the ship wHICH iSn'T cONsEnT!! Not to mention the fact that a fatherly comparison is given between the two, which was the final straw in my mental gag-reflex about these two. If the author wanted a healthy, or at least believable relationship grown between Hook & Wendy, she should have spent a hell of a lot more time. But nah, it's all lustful glances and a beyond-cringey scene of a fairly non-consensual makeout scene where Hook's hands go further than they should have without even the simplest things of consent as the "pulling away to look for a moment" trope. Nope. He just freaking takes his precious Wendy for granted, finally able to get his hands into the real deal of her caramel-and-cocoa scented hair he apparently could never get enough of.
'His world had consisted of fairies and natives and pirates and mermaids that were nothing like they seemed. It was a world of magic and mystery. And within it, he had been a boy.'
While the majority of this book is a steaming pile of wreckage, Peter was actually one of the strongest elements and characters. I am not a fan of the ending written for him here nor how he kept being shoved aside in favor of Hook BUT he was still quite a fascinating character. Of all the retelling aspects of this series, Neverland and its Peter Pan are the best.
'Peter Pan grinned, his green eyes twinkling with that mischievous merriment she had so frequently told. He gently lowered her to the seat beside him in the row boat, and placed a quieting finger to his lips.'
Despite the frequently stated attraction between Hook & Wendy, there still always remains that unbroken bond between Peter and his Wendy. They fit so well together in all aspects, romantic or not, and honestly all the Hook eyes and hair-smelling traits couldn't erase this natural chemistry. I wish there hadn't been any romance at all because then this really could have been something I would have stood behind, weak writing be damned.
But alas, the problems remain. And so my enjoyment aside, this is a sub-par retelling whose Neverland beauty simply cannot erase.
As always with Heather's stories, whether she's writing about fairies, werewolves, heroes or villains, it's her ability to paint a picture (using beautiful prose, I might add) and bring her characters to life that wins me over every time. James Hook, Wendy, Peter, Tink, and the whole gang are three dimensional and so life-like you'll be thinking about them well after the story's over. Both books - Forever Neverland and Beyond Neverland - are wonderful reads, and I would recommend reading them back-to-back. Wonderful tales for the adventurers (and romantics) in us all.
Story Line: 1 stars out of 5. To be honest, this book really just was disappointing. I didn't like the plot much. The only thing that kept me going was the romance between Hook and Wendy. I really didn't like the romance between Tinkerbell and Peter Pan. That is probably the only thing I liked in this book besides the main characters. The ending really just made me angry. I will never pick up this book again after this. The first one was so much better! This one is a real let down.
Wendy is kidnapped by a group of pirates. He wants her to write about Neverland. His name is John Angel. He is using her. He wants to become the pirate king. Captain Hook is the pirate king. Hook, Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, John, Michael, Tootles, and many others come back to Neverland. They all make it their some way or another. Hook's ship is flies through the air to get back to Neverland. Michael falls out of the sky into the lagoon. John follows his school steps to get there. Peter Pan and Tinkerbell fly there.
Hook, Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, John, and Michael all work together to rescue Wendy. There was a lot of unnecessary violence in this book. I know I'm dealing with pirates, but come on. It was not worth it.
You are also introduced to a bad fairy/pixie. His name is Nero. He was Tinkerbell's betrothed. He wanted no one to be happy because he wasn't. He was bad to the bone. He tried to strangle Wendy twice. He even shoved a sword through her back. Wendy almost dies due to this.
The last twenty pages made me absolutely angry. Peter Pan dies rescuing Captain Hook. I think that was the dumbest thing. I really can't stand that Peter Pan was killed by a bullet. I just can't comprehend that. I really can't!! I do like that they are no longer enemies. That really touched my heart. One thing I was really impressed with was the book cover as well. It was beautiful...the book itself...nope!
Characters: 3 stars out 5. I really loved Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Wendy, Michael, and John. I really disliked Nero, John Angel, and Tinkerbell. They were all annoying. I just didn't like there characters.
Somehow I still have a favorite quote. Favorite quote: ""When you grow up," he clarified coolly, "you find you have an awful lot of the past to contend with."
Writing Style: 2 stars out of 5. It really could have been better. The formatting is still awful. It really annoying. I hate when chapters are bunched together. I also found a few grammar mistakes polished throughout it. She didn't really do a thorough job when editing it. That's okay though. I really enjoyed her first book. I will give her another chance if I decided to read any of her other books. (I know I make mistakes in my editing too sometimes.)

OMG!! Holy S$%t!! This book just blew my mind! Disney has nothing on you Heather!! I always would think about the next story of Peter Pan and this series just is amazing. I am really having a hard time trying not to give out spoilers at this time. I wanna cry right now because I have to wait for the final book. PEOPLE THIS IS A MUST READ!!! Have you ever wondered what happened next and how did it come to begin with? I have and this book would be amazing in a movie. Captain Hook was such an intense man and Wendy... boy that explains a lot in being the only girl lost boy. Bravo on a great written book.
I absolutely loved this book. The idea of the Darling children after they came back is what hook...pun intended, me into reading this. What kept me reading was the fantastic story that presented itself to me with every page. A delicious and different take on a classic story. Surprises, turns and twists you will not see coming. Worth reading, and reading again.
First book was excellent, and was thankful for the fact a sequel existed. Second book wasn't quite as good, but it could be I'm a little older than YA. But it wrapped everything up (I cried, darn it, how could you?!) but then the book ended as though there could be a third one. I hope so...
I thoroughly enjoyed both of these books.I It was a completely different spin on the Peter Pan take and will engage any reader of any age! Absolutely wonderful storycraft
I can nor believe it took me so long to read the second and final book. I loved the first and honestly the second did not disappoint. I could easily read 2 more. But the best books always end when there is potential for more story instead of dragging it out.
Well, she did it again. I was waiting for this book, like FOREVER!!!! and I was not disappointed. If you want to know what happened with the Darling's children, the Lost Boys, Peter Pan, Tinkbell and Captain Hook? mannn this is the book for you. Like in Forever Neverland, first book in this series, "Beyond Neverland" is full of magic, adventures, ups and downs, suspense, surprises, impossibilities and Pixies dust. Beyond Neverland is an excelente book for all ages. This book is a must read, easy to get into, from the begining it transports you to the magical world of Neverland, a place where every child want to go, and those like me, a child in heart, a place where all the impossibilities are possibilities. So come on, Happy thoughts, let's fly to Neverland! a great adventure await! :-)

I have been looking forward to this book for a long time. I loved “Forever Neverland”. I admittedly can’t remember much of that story line anymore, but when Beyond Neverland came out I bought it instantly.
This book was written in a way that it sounded like poetry. It makes sense for this type of book more than the author’s other works. It was beautifully written.
This book takes up two years after the end of the first book. Neverland was destroyed by Wendy’s story to save their lives. Hook and Peter Pan had worked together to defeat the Never Bird. Hook is transported back to his world where he is the pirate king. Wendy, Michael and John all go back to their world where they are each separately going to either boarding school or university. Wendy is about to turn twenty. Peter Pan and Tinkerbell are somewhere together (perhaps London) trying to survive.
One night a strange fog arrives and all the players know that it is not normal. Someone is after revenge and everyone is drawn together again. New villains are introduced to the reader and we learn more about Tinkerbell’s past.
Favorite quote: “Sometimes, if you’re lucky, fear leaves as monotony sets in.” –Michael Darling
I fell in love with this series when I was about 14 and I have reread it probably 5 or so times since then. I'm 20 now! I love this reimagining/sequel series to Peter Pan and wish there were more books in this series!
I seriously LOVE this book. It literally had me at the edge of my seat 99% of the time. You literally have no clue what was going to happen next. Which, I love! I love when books have different outcomes than you expected, have you guessing on what will happen next to the point you are literally freaking out because you have to know, and can be original all at this same time. In my opinion with those qualities alone make a good book. But, at times I can seriously have deep freaking hatred for those qualities. Just because...you know... the unexpected became WAY to unexpected and didn't turn out into your liking. If you have read the book you know what I'm talking about (the deaths of two certain people). They were literally the last two people you expected to be kill. It just blew my mind. This book takes off two years later after Wendy destroyed Neverland by the way. Just saying. So like I said before, this book was freaking AMAZING! I love this series so much and it's original. Which makes me like it even more. If you haven't read the second book yet, or haven't read the series at all then I REALLY recommend that you read it. =)
Peter Pan was one of my most-loved stories when I was a kid so I never thought I would like a sequel. I tried this one only because of the author. I have loved everything I've read of Heather's and this was no exception! This story starts five years after the Darling children return from Neverland. John stops believing and Wendy has to see a therapist. The real world can't believe the story the children told and that causes all sorts of turmoil in their life. Peter and Tink are in the real world making sure the Lost Boys set up in good lives. I won't tell any more, you're going to have to read it. Rest assured, Heather has written a wonderful story and has only made minor tweaks to the characters (due to their age). I loved the concept and the execution was fantastic! The back-stories (especially Hook's) are awesome! I'd really like some more of that. Heather is one of about five authors that write in a style that allows me to actually visualize the story as I read it!
Two and a half stars. Slightly better written then the first book, though still a bit disjointed at times. The plot also seemed a bit more developed, leaving only a little to be desired verses "a hell of a lot" the first one left me with. But it was also significantly sappier and I ended up skipping over pages because of the excess mush, and for all her supposed training and martial arts classes, Wendy still needed to be rescued an awful lot.
Progress is progress, however, and the writing does show a marked improvement in the two years that passes between the publication of the two novels. I doubt I'll ever have the patience for another reread, however, but if I were inclined to ever reproduce and ended up with a daughter, I would have few qualms about offering the two Neverland Duets to her as reading material.
It is strange how long it took me to read this series as I was very invested in the vampires and werewolf type stories so I finally got around to reading it. I must say I was not disappointed and I really enjoyed the different take on Peter Pan and the crew. What a tale that is told - full of magic and mystery and a whole new spin on the classic tale of Peter Pan albeit a much more handsome and captivating Captain Hook that's for sure. Heather is such a wonderful storyteller and she sweeps you along into a world that you never want to leave and the romantic in me sighed in anticpation. It definitely exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend this story to all and sundry.
I am not sure how I can put into words what a phenomenal read this was. As many of us did, I grew up on the story of Peter Pan and love the fact that with this book and its prequel we are given a beautiful story of what happened to all of the characters after the original story. And as a side note, Captain James Hook has never been so smoking hot:) I literally could not put this one down and was blown away at the ending (with tears shed to be sure). Sad to see this series end but grateful to have been a part of the ride.
Heather Killough-Walden never ceases to amaze me with her exceptional writing. All of her books are captivating and I find myself unable to put them down once started. This book is no exception and is by far her best yet. Heather brings her twist on Peter Pan and Neverland to an epic conclusion in this book. I.found myself rooting for the unexpected people, I laughed, I cheered and I cried. The words "The End" on the last page made me truly saddened. This book is a must read!
I think Wendy and Hook's "relationship" caused the biggest issue here for me. It was written very twisted and controlling. Not healthy, but the author was making it out as romantic and dreamy to be overpowered. Creepy.
Tootles once again meant mostly nothing to the story but he got dragged into it nonetheless.
Wendy let fly the F word. Not impressed. Definitely not necessary.
Some people just wouldn't die. That's annoying.
It seemed very short and not fleshed out enough in my opinion.
In this sequel, the author delivers a story as good as the first! It mainly focuses on Wendy, as she comes to grips with her feelings for a character she accidentally fell for in the first book.
This book definitely had me hooked! I laughed, I cried out in fear, and I stayed up till the wee hours of the morning to finish! I love when fairy tales are retold with a twist, and the conclusion to this story definitely delivers! Five stars!
This one was a little harder to get into then the first book. It honestly has nothing to do with the writing or the story. We just we have so many characters to catch up with since the end of the first book. They aren't all in the same world, so many of the chapters are from different POV and about different worlds that she has to build for us. Once we got past all of that, the story really took off. Of course it had me sobbing at the end. Great story and I'd love to read more from this world.
I read this book back to back with the first book in the series, Forever Neverland. I absolutely LOVED IT! Adventure, romance, revenge and redemption; who could really ask for more? Why give up fairy tales as we grow up if the fairy tale can grow with you? I'm already planning when I can read this series again.
I have always hated that peter left Wendy, and this book helped fill the void the original Peter Pan story left in my heart. I have always been obsessed with Peter Pan and Oh my gosh, this book forever ruined him for me, but in the best way possible. Every time I think of Peter Pan or hear a song, I start to cry. What I would give for a book three!
Wow... Heather Killough-Walden did it again!! Made me fall in love even more with Captain Hook!!! I loved the continuation of Neverland and getting to see how some had changed and others had not. Absolutely love this series!
I enjoyed this book. I wished there would have been more one on one interaction between Wendy and James. More intimate. Their characters, especially James was so strong and intense but I just didn't feel like I got enough of them two together. But overall I enjoyed the book as a whole.
The immense pleasure I had in reading the sequel to Forever Neverland!!!!! This Highly anticipated sequel was so worth the wait! HKW continues to bring us a Hook you cannot help but fall in love with & villains that are sexy & BAD BAD BAD!!!!! I wonder if a trilogy is in the works here.....?
Really good. Really really good. Both this and the first story in the series was a great re-imagining of Peter Pan. I loved where she took the characters and how she expanded on the original world building.
omg ..what a story ...had me blubbering before the end ....maybe we should call Heather Killough-Walden Wendy now she is such a great storyteller ...I really really hope there will be more of these Neverland stories ....
hkw you did it again another excellent read i love the way this one ended i started right before going to bed and couln't put it down until i finished it was a late night but totally worth it was unputadownable
