A fascinating text from the 14th century that purports to trace the ruling dynasty’s descent from King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba (referred to as Queen Makeda). According to this account, the Queen of Sheba was an Ethiopian Queen who came to Jerusalem seeking the wisdom of King Solomon. Struck by her beauty, Solomon used a cunning trick to bed her, after which she gave birth to a son. Contrary to the desire of his father, however, this son – King Menelik I – decided to return to Ethiopia, taking with him the Ark of the Covenant and divine authority.
