excellent read

This historical novel was a real eye opener to me. The early struggles of the unions is clearly depicted whilst at the same time an interesting, human life story is woven for us. An excellent book.

A bitter sweet tale of friendship, romance and hardship, centered around the tale of the Tolpuddle martyrs. Thoroughly enjoyable!

I really enjoyed this book set in Cornwall around the tale of the Tolpuddle martyrs. It was an interesting insight into the history of the period and the poverty and deprivation of the time. It is only the first of many works by E. V Thompson that I will now be pursuing. Having Cornish ancestors who came to Australia in the 1850s gives me an additional interest in reading about what their lives may have been like during the 18th and 19th centuries.
