Congrats! You are now a father of twins, a girl and a boy.
Gage Winters thought his SEAL training had prepared him for anything and everything. Was he ever wrong! Training and experience had taught the SEALs that the odds were that, at some point in their career, a friend or acquaintance would be killed, wounded, suffer from PTSD, or suffer from the throes of addiction to drugs or alcohol. Death and taxes are the only certainties of life!
After the deaths of his best friend,Tucker and Tucker's wife, Christine, two weeks ago in a car accident, the custody of eight-month-old twins, Maya and Brennan, has been given to Gage per their wills. He's a batchelor with no experience with kids, let alone babies, and he's now in custody of twins! BUD/S training was a snap compared to this. Online reading says the twins should be sleeping thru the night and napping during the day. If he could only get them to read it for themselves and agree to it.
In the past, he's made mistakes in his life, but he swears to never screw up again. He owes it to Tucker and Christine, along with the men who lost their lives in Afghanistan due to what he considered to be his fault. The investigation found him not to be at fault, but that meant nothing to him. He still blamed himself. He can't change the past. But he can and will be better from now on.
At twenty-eight, he had always thought about having a family. Like almost everyone else, he always thought he'd have nine months to adjust to the news. He never thought it would happen with the appearance of an attorney at his door. Luckily for him, he had inherited a house from his uncle, so he had room for them. He's on paternity leave from his security job. He'll return when the twins have settled in enough to consider daycare for them.
Now at 4 a.m., Kylie Fredericks, Christine's younger sister, is at his door with suitcases in hand. She wanted to check up on Maya and Brennan. She was upset at not being named guardian for the twins, but her work as a Feng Shui consultant did require her to travel. Now that she has just returned from Tokyo, her apartment has been sublet for three months, and she has maxed out her daily limit on her debit card. With no way to pay for a hotel, she shows up at Gage's home.
Just as they start to settle in, Kylie is mugged in the park where she had taken the twins for an outing. Next, someone breaks into Gage's home. The living room is trashed, but the only thing taken was Kylie's laptop. What could a Feng Shui consultant possibly have? She is also keeping a secret from Gage. If and when he learns of it, will it be the beginning of the end of their relationship?
