THIS IS NOT A DIET. IT’S A REBOOT. Throughout much of their lives, men have a weight advantage over women, whose bodies are naturally designed to hold more fat. Fair or not, men’s hormonal make-up, muscle mass, and unique metabolic profile make it easier for them to stay lean. But certain conditions can overturn that gift—the passage of time, the pressure of work and others, the wrong ‘fuel’—and lead men to a hormonal state that more closely resembles, well, women.
If you have a beer gut, fatty pecs and are ‘softer’ then you used to be, especially where it counts the most, keep reading. Help is in your hands. Designed to restore optimal testosterone levels, eliminate dangerous visceral fat and improve sexual performance, REFUEL™ gives you the rules, skills, and step-by-step plan needed to optimize the male biochemical blueprint, including:
-- How to boost T-levels and supercharge sex naturally, without hormones or drugs --Gender-specific nutritional engineering—or why a generic weight-loss approach just doesn’t work --No sweat tactics to jumpstart your metabolism, build strength and maximize energy, naturally --The 5 commandments for getting it up and dropping the gut --How to man a kitchen—with 15 great tasting dishes anyone can and should make --How to engage and include the women in your life as partners in your program

One of many books that were gifted to the Library, I have been taking "first dibs" and poking through them, Refuel is the kind of book I likely would not have sought out, but since it landed on my desk it was worth a read.
The author clearly has investigated, and is invested in the topic of male-focused weight management, and as this is a topic of interest for me recently, worth the time to read.
It is prescriptive, it explicitly lays out how to live leaner, how to make better choices, and does address topics tailored more towards the masculine than most health and diet books. Moderation and science of environmental toxins round out the text making it both informative and engaging.
Title is pure nonsense, while testosterone does come up with regard to how men can exploit their body's natural mechanisms for ramping up metabolism, the nonsense about "supercharged sex" had to come from some crafty publisher....just terrible.
If you are looking for a fresh male perspective on health I would recommend the book.
I bought this book to read of new ideas to improve my own health. I found the content to be undistinguised in terms of fresh and new ideas. I do feel this book may benefit those who have little to no exposure to exercise and healthy eating. The chapter on everyday toxins and how it impacts the endocrine system was interesting.
This book was practical, educational, motivational and yet very readable.
For me (with 16 years of consistent exercise but very limited cooking experience/skills) the best part of the book were the recipes in the back. They were easy, fast, healthy and most importantly tasty (my family loved them). I will be reading his other books and will cook up all of his recipes!
It has some interesting information! The beginning feels long for me. Like it takes a long time convincing you about toxins and why you should do this.
There are some food tips I like, but that seemed hard to follow for me. So my challenge would be to make this simple enough for my routine.
But seems like it could be an effective diet plan. I don't like to diet as much as a healthy lifestyle. I found it hard to get read over all, but it seems like it could be helpful.
This book was a surprise find but no surprise given Dr. John LaPuma’s track record of publishing great recipes and practical, useable nutrition information. I will be ordering several copies to give to some men in my life (four brothers and several brother-in-laws) who know that as a chef and nutritionist myself, I’m always presenting options for them to be as healthy as possible. Even if your man already knows his way around a chef’s knife, this book is a great addition, especially the Man Memos and Hot Tips, new recipes and a 24 Day Plan to help him REFUEL!
