Cara signorina Ricci,

Did I read it in under 24 hours, yes I did. It was a super easy read, short chapters, did keep me kind of entertained but it definitely got old pretty fast, I feel like she didn’t even want to marry him at the end still.

Ewww brother ewww what’s that, what’s that brother 😭

This was so bad omg we hated it from the very beginning but we love suffering so we kept going 😭
The characters gave me headache, they were so stupid and horny all the time. They did nothing but sleep together and it was so cringe and it felt so violent and just yikes 🤢 there was zero chemistry between them whatsoever. Crue was a psychopath and misogynistic asshole. His level of delusional is unmatched no body has ever reached this level before! And i think therapy is too late for him and he needs to shot himself in the head instead 🫶🏻
And to make u love him more i’ll just leave this here

“And you were late,” he adds, with a hint of anger radiating from him.
“So?” I shrug.
“I warned you not to be late.”
“And I couldn’t care less what you warned,”
“Who told you it was okay to have this much attitude?” he asks,
“Is this a joke?” I reply, leaning in.
“You have forgotten where you came from and what women mean to men.”
“And what precisely do they mean?” I lean back in my chair, crossing my arms over my chest.
“That they obey and do what men say.”

With that being sad. I want to say that the only good thing about this book is i got to laugh and be traumatized with my beautiful bestie buket 🤍 forever love being traumatized with u 🥹🫂

I stopped reading after this exact section:

“His jaw tics again, and he picks up a knife and cuts into his steak. “Eat,” he orders.
I look at the food in front of me and grimace. “I’ll be fine.”
“Don’t like steak?” he asks as he takes a bite. I watch as he chews slowly, his lips moving with each bite.
He looks like he’s trying to contain his fury. I am not sure for how long and I take some pleasure in knowing that.
“No,” I reply.
“We are at a steak house,” he points out as he swallows and lifts his glass of wine to his lips.
“That was your choice,” I remind him.
“And you were late,” he adds, with a hint of anger radiating from him.
Definitely the grudge-holding type.
“So?” I shrug.
“I warned you not to be late.”
“And I couldn’t care less what you warned,” I fire back.
He sucks a hiss through his teeth before he goes back to cutting his steak. “Who told you it was okay to have this much attitude?” he asks, and a rattled laugh escapes me.
“Is this a joke?” I reply, leaning in.
“You have forgotten where you came from and what women mean to men.”
“And what precisely do they mean?” I lean back in my chair, crossing my arms over my chest.
“That they obey and do what men say.”

Excerpt From Lethal Vows

You’re thinking… why did you stop reading?

Here’s why:
I’m all for the alpha male with a tinge of misunderstood emotional intelligence…. I’m just not into sexism. In any trope. It’s just… ugly. You know? Crue’s character is tainted now. I don’t care what mafia, king or whatever you are, you don’t say that. It’s twisted. It’s just being a shit human being. Maybe I’m not giving Crue a chance but no, I’m sorry, if you say that, you don’t really get a chance. I just can’t swallow that whole “women belong to men” idea. I can’t.

Whew!! Crue is the definition of a walking red flag, but when I tell you, I would love to be a character in this book lol. What a great book with these two amazing authors.

Lethal Vows is delightful. This is how dark romance should be done. Dark and yet hot with the strong characters. Both Rya and Crue are explosive. They maintain their strong characters through out the story.

Both authors done a great job. Miss Smith and Miss Russel should do more book. I dare to say Honey and Dawson's story next.

Entertaining book.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book (given by the author)...

3.5 stars

I really wanted to like this book since it started off with essentially a bang, but there are some issues for me. It’s weird because Crue was annoying and acted like a psychopath, but I actually liked him a lot; however, as for Rya she got on my nerves constantly.

To be fair, Crue probably shouldn’t have waited so long and the way he re-introduced himself into her life could have been less…deadly. However, Rya is not new to this life, she was born and raised in it and she even works in it as a criminal lawyer, but for some reason she believes she left that life behind; spoiler alert she did not leave that life behind nor did she escape their arrangement.

The book is basically filled with Crue trying to win her and Rya complaining until Crue pulls the ultimate move, which honestly was reckless, cruel and genius.

I did love the ending and the bonus scene it really made the book for me. I think for me it’s just that I didn’t feel the love between the dysfunctional characters until the end.

Extra thoughts:

How do you have a best friend for most of your life, that you say you speak to regularly but haven’t seen in a while and didn’t know some important facts. She didn’t know her best friend was married, didn’t remember who her boyfriend of over 10 years was and definitely didn’t know she was her in third trimester of pregnancy. I’m sorry but that’s not how best friend relationships work, did her friend not even invite Rya to her wedding? Like I’m confuse do they not talk about their lives at all.

Also the Rya’s mother situation, the way she is described as a heartless woman who wanted money and not her daughter quickly changed when we meet her and see how see interacts with Rya.

It felt at times that maybe the authors weren’t sure where to take this book or they were both writing two different books for certain situations.

I love T.L Smith as an author so so much and i was genuinely so excited for this books release but i felt as if the book fell flat.

To start with, i wasn’t a fan of the way the 14 year time jump was executed. We had no
perception of what these characters were doing in those 14 years just to be thrown straight into their lives again as if no time had passed. If there had been more of a back story before the jump then it would have been more enjoyable

I felt as though there wasn’t much chemistry between the two main characters and their dialogue was lacking, it felt quite bland which was very frustrating since i so desperately wanted to like this book.

I really liked a lot of elements of this book.
I loved how perseverant Crue was. That man was not taking no for an answer (right up until the end anyway, and as much as I didn't like what he did I feel like he only pulled that shit to back Rya into a corner).
I also, up until a certain point, liked how stubbornly Rya stuck to her guns. She didn't let Crue steamroll her for a single second, no matter what he threatened her with or what crazy shit he did, which I admired. However, once she'd established a relationship with Crue and he'd proven himself and his intentions, her stubbornly sticking to her guns went from admirable to annoying.
Another issue I had was with the writing. I couldn't put my finger on why I didn't fully gel with it, but sometimes you read something and you're instantly sucked in and enamoured by the writing and other times you have to actively make yourself ignore how clunky and kind of... not very good it is. This was a small case of the latter for me. It wasn't bad enough for me to put the whole book down, but it was enough that I took notice of it and had to work hard in places to move on from it.
In laments terms, it was a little bit... wattpaddy?
Still solidly enjoyable, but not perfect.

THIS WAS ASS. This sucked so badly. I hated everyone in this book all of them were stupid. CRUES WAS A ANNOYING BITCH. YOU WILL MARRY ME. Stfu this isn’t the 1950s. Ummmmm new flash women have rights.
AND WHEN HE GOES TO MARRY HONEY AFTER THROWING TEMPER TANTRUM. OMG ARE YOU REALLY THAT MUCH OF A SOUR BITCH. LIKE THEY DONT LOVE YOU THEY DONT LIKE YOU. AND DONT GET ME STARTED ON WHEN EVERYONE BLAMED RYA FOR CRUES TRYKNH TO MARRY HONEY OR ANGLE AND THE OTHER PEOPLE ACTING LIKE ITS WERID SHE DOESNT WANT TO MARRY A MAN SHES KNOWN FOR LESS THAN A YEAR.
I ALSO COULDNT HANDLE IT WHEN HE STARTED TALKING ABOUT HOW HIS WIFE SHE BE SUBMISSIVE. YET AGAIN IT NOT THE FUCKING 1950s.
Also it was corny as fuck.
He’s a possessive and protective 🐺🐺. THIS BOOK IS MY SUICDE NOTE.

The plot was interesting that's why I picked it. Well, let me say that all the rest wasn't. I felt inconsistency in the writing and I realized later that there are two writers? Furthermore, the characters despite being in their thirties they were acting kind of immature? I'm really not so sure, it felt just cringey.

Fuck you, Tiktok.

sorry, sorry. it is my fault, too.

As much as I like an independent, strong FMC, it gets tiring when all they do is fight with their head.

This had a good premise, and it was executed badly. The MCs didn't have that much spark together. I do not see the pull they're seeing.

bruh, I don't even know what Crue looks like. He was never described besides being psychotic and a mafia. Which, btw, the mafia's biggest role here was Crue being the leader and that he needs to be married soon. Also, he's in New York re-establishing his family's power so the mafias in NY don't forget. forget what? what became of it in the end?

There is something going on with the mafia that the author barely touched cause the author focused on this so-called push-pull relationship that I couldn't see. 🙄

idk. i'm off to get victimized by booktok again. bye.

Loved the dedication and that was pretty much the only thing I liked about this book. The characters didn’t have any chemistry or tension together - he was just basically either forcing/asking/begging her to marry him and then her telling him no and just wanting him for sex. Just with this, I’ve summarized 80% of the book for you.
