Tammy is now with her family and happy. With her safe, Storey and Eric go to retrieve the imprisoned Councilman. They barely manage to portal out with the him before the guards arrive. Then the Eric's father, the esteemed Councilman does the unthinkable. He pushes Storey out of the portal.
Storey is now caught in the in-between, and as she starts thinking through her problem with her stylus, it's not very promising.
Back in Toran, the Councilman is arrested and place in the dungeon under guard. Eric is determined to find Storey and bring her back, only to learn no one ever returns. Of course Storey isn't staying put either, but her stylus is mapping where they go and Paxton is seeing it as he inputs the data from his stylus.
In order to do this properly Eric gathers all the things he could possible need including getting sketchbooks from her home, he also sneaks the broken stylus into his pack. There is no stopping him once he's as prepared as he can be and Paxton has no choice but to let him go.
In the meantime Storey is learning a lot about the history between the Torans and Louers. It's not pretty and her finding Dillon is going to reveal some very well hidden secrets.
Seems the best move Eric made was bringing the broken stylus. The soul contained is very knowledgeable and once a leader.
There are many complications both on the way out of the in-between and to getting home. Since the best pathway the styluses could follow was back to Tammy, she unwittingly attaches to them.
Plenty of suspense a few more surprise and the promise of a romance that will last.
I loved this three book series. The adventures of Storey and Eric were truly fascinating. They encountered many roadblocks but in the end, true justice was served. Very good ending and a great read.
I have to start off by saying that I only do reviews on a series, not on each book (I can never figure out how to do reviews without giving away too much!). I have become email friends with Dale since starting to read her books. I read the Family Blood Ties series and loved it. Because of all of that, I decided to read her other books even though they are not ones I usually would read (silly me!). I cannot begin to explain how thrilled I am that I did read these!!! This is a fantastic series!! The series opens with Dangerous Designs, continues with Deadly Designs and ends with Darkest Designs. The whole concept of bonding with your pencil or Stylus as it is also called, is intriguing, but to bond with it to a level that you can think and speak to it is something else. And then finding out that there are souls - real living souls - inside the Stylus - well, I think that says it all!!! This series is fantastically written, with the first 2 novels, ending with cliffhangers, well, not really even ending as each book flows directly into the next one. I love how Storey - the lead heroine, who the series is about - is able to think outside of the box, is willing to help anyone and everyone, even at her own expense, and is able to find great friendship, a potential life-mate and in the end is able to help different dimensions of people, just by being herself - an inquisitive almost seventeen year old girl. I think that anyone who is looking for a great series to read, should read this one. Dale has a way with words, and is great at being able to draw in the reader (no pun intended) to make you think that you are there in the story with them. In fact she does this so well, that I actually read the entire second book (Deadly Designs) in one sitting!! I have not done that in a really long time, so extra kudos to Dale! In all, READ THIS SERIES and any others from Dale Mayer - you will not be disappointed!!
It's been a while since I read book 2 in this series (you know, like, a year) but I had no problems jumping in and falling back into Storey's world. Or, not her world, as the case may be. With all the fiddling she accidentally did when she didn't understand what the stylus was capable of, her world is all weirded up. Plus, she's making crazy waves in the other worlds/dimensions.
Because Storey's motto is "Go big or go home!" (I'm just kidding about that. While I'm sure Storey has some sort of internal motto, that's probably not it. Although maybe it is. One never knows with a girl who can play with reality.)
Anyway. Big things are uncovered. Things that have the potential to alter the beliefs of many, many people. Eric's father has betrayed the trust of his people (not surprising) and Storey learns more about the styluses and the divide between the Torans and the Louers.
All in all, it was a very satisfying ending to Storey's, umm... story. She helps an entire civilization look at the world differently and uncovers something that had long been forgotten. Fun with some inter-dimensional craziness thrown in. I liked it!
