Anna Webb was only eighteen when her best friend’s older brother, Jaxon, broke her heart, but the scars it left are permanent. After vowing to never let herself get hurt like that again, good girl Anna has put her past behind her, working hard to become a successful financial advisor living in London. But when she returns to her hometown in Connecticut, she has no idea she’s about to be on a collision course with her past.
Jaxon Hale wasn’t expecting to run into Anna when he left his real estate development company in Los Angeles for a visit to Connecticut. And he certainly wasn’t expecting Anna to be all grown up. Before long, he’s remembering what it was the two of them had all those years ago, and he’s having a hard time keeping his hands off her.
But will Anna be able to let herself trust Jaxon again? Or will a second chance lead to a second heartbreak?
Excerpt:
His finger moved down over her mouth, his thumb stopping for a moment to rub against her bottom lip. His index finger traced a flaming trail down over her chin, across her neck, and down over her collarbone.
Anna bit her lip, willing herself not to cry out. This man, this moment, had been what she’d been thinking and dreaming about for years, and now that it was finally here, the reality of it was almost too much for her to bear.
“You look sexy when you bite your lip like that, Princess,” Jaxon growled. He’d inched closer to her, his mouth so close to hers that she could feel his breath against her cheek. “If you don’t stop, I might do something I’ll regret.”
Anna licked her lip, then bit it again, daring him to follow through.
“I’m serious, Princess,” he drawled. The side of his mouth tugged up into that sensuous grin. “Don’t tease me like that. If you start something, you best be prepared to finish it.”
“Oh, I’m prepared,” Anna said.
“You sure about that?”
Anna wasn’t. But she nodded anyway, unable to take the idea that he might stop touching her, might take away the feeling of ecstasy that was rushing through her body.
He moved his face closer to hers, and she felt his breath brush against her cheek. A hot shiver slid up her spine.
His eyes locked on hers, his gaze penetrating. The urge to kiss him flooded her body, but she was frozen, unable to move, unable to feel anything but his eyes on hers. Just looking at him was setting her body on fire.
His finger was still on her collarbone, drawing lazy circles. The slow burn of his touch was so contradictory to how much she wanted him it made her almost dizzy...
Ok, this is a super awesome super short read! I loved it! Jaxon and Anna were high school sweethearts but were separated for 15 years after he went off to college across country and she staid home to finish high school. She moves to London and comes home for a visit and runs into him at her bff's baby shower, who also happens to be Jaxon's sister. (I love friends to lovers and siblings-of-friends to lovers stories!) Anywho... the sexual chemistry between these two is off the charts hot! When they finally make it to the bed.... DANG! For such a short read it was well developed as far as the plot and characters went. The only thing that I found questionable was where the H Jaxon's parents were when his sister had her baby?..... Oh well, not a biggie. Good book! :) Hot cover ;)
P.S For Kindle owners, you can buy this one in a combo that has two other books with it for only $2.99, which is how much all 3 cost individually! http://www.amazon.com/Take-Three-Alph...
Ok i love Locklyn Marx but all of her stories just end. The happy decision arrives then boom its over. Give me a little something more I truly loved this book and her other books but seriously write an epilogue or something or once the happy decision is made go just a tiny bit deeper into it I always feel so jaded when it's over Marx books should all be 5 stars but I'm always short changed at the end because I want just a little more. There's so much depth and character building that when the story's over ur sad even though its happy.
This book in one word? Cute! It was a little too short for the price I payed, but a really sweet, kinda sad, but sexy love story. I liked both Anna and Jaxon, though I admit, not the whole time. At times I wanted to kick their asses, but I understand they were afraid of getting hurt again. And their encounters were just so... wow! Totally hot! I had to try and calm down my crazy hormones too many times to count. Like, almost the whole time. A very good read. Short, but cute. It's actually 3.5 stars.
This is not a novel. It is an extremely short story. I bought this as a five book set, claiming to be Alpha Male Romances all by the same author. This was the first of the five. There was no Alpha. There was no Romance. I am assuming the first of the 5 is the best, so I won't be wasting my time reading the other 4 stories.
Not grammatically perfect or new ideals but it cut right to the things you know you want in a book like this. I'd rather honestly getting me their quick to the delusional world than stringing me along pretending its some great American novel.
Great beginning and I love how both characters are still into each other after all those years have past. But I really didn't like the ending that much. Are writers just getting lazy or is it just me? Why don't these new books have great endings or epilogues anymore?!?
this book had such potential of being a great read. way too many unnecessary details and not enough of relevant ones. it was not a bad story at all it just lacked more.
Did not like it at all. The plot was medicore. No character development, And no real background plus the ending was predictable and rushed. If i could give this book less than 1 stars i would.
