The Way Of The West
With his wife's killers dead and buried, Conrad Morgan--known as The Loner--is on his way to Mexico for some peace and quiet. But on the way he's sidetracked by some intriguing travelers who are hunting down a valuable golden artifact. They're not the only ones who want to get a hold of the treasure. A running gun battle with some killers lands The Loner and his cohorts in the Jornada del Muerto--a hellish, waterless wasteland in New Mexico Territory. And now it's up to The Loner to get himself and his new friends out of this arid stretch of land before they perish from thirst. . .or lead poisoning.. . .

Good book, good plot and what I expected from this writer. It was definitely worth my time as this book was more like an Indian Jones book than anything. However, it didn't satisfy my concern after finishing the second book in this series. There's not much more to do with the character. The story arc is over and the author is trying to revive his character. In reality, it seems he's just continuing the series because it's selling. Personally, I think the story arc should've last more than two books because of this reason. What's to expect in the next what twelve books in this series when it all started with him getting vengeance for his deceased wife? I'll continue to read the series but I feel like his story is complete.
This is the second book by this author. Plenty Of action and suspense. Well written. Waiting for more books about Kid Morgan who seems to be taking a reputation that might one day subsume his famous father's mantel. Perhaps the settling of the old West could make him obsolete, too.
I binge read the series in one month, 12 books. That makes my 2nd western in one year and I loved it. This one takes place during the Wild Wild West and it was such a great adventure that I loved every minute of it. I recommend this to anyone who likes a fun adventure in the West .
I like the fact that Kid doesn't desire female company. It keeps his character in a spot I enjoy with this thoughts, etc.. though the bad guys in some of these can get pretty bad. This one was definitely a different type of Western with more of an uncharted/tomb raier vibe which was cool.
This is a great book. Very good writings, terrific characters and a fulfilling reading experience.
The plot is very well thought out with layering that works well. The traveling written involving the characters could make the reader reach for a glass of cold water and want to turn on the air conditioner.
The characters are well developed with some outstanding touches. One is superior dialogue that distinguishes each character well.
The worse part of the book is still another terrible misfire collage of images that is used for the cover.
Love the historical touches that are the foundation of the story. How all of that is resolved along with a final footnote are wonderfuly written and best part of the book.
A good old fashioned Western novel. Being from New Mexico myself there, Tex. I thought it would be interesting to see if I could recognize any place names. No disappointed. The Loner "Kid Morgan" is traipsing through the New Mexico Territory in the late 1800s when he comes upon a wagon, driven by a woman with a male (priest) passenger, being chased by some desperados. He saves the woman and her passenger and gets involved in a wild adventure in search of an artifact from Inquisition Spain. Fast paced, many gunfigts along the way. Fun. il
Greed, murder and intrigue seem to be involved in this adventure involving the "THE LONER". The Vatican, a Count from Italy all searching for a gold candlestick taken during the "SPANISH INQUISITION"; it was used to escape from Europe to America. The Loner happened along to help priest/padre and the anthropologist who were pursued by Indians. Lots of action, exposing what extremes people will use to get what they want. Why don't you relax and follow "THE LONER" you'll find enjoyment, a bit of flowering history of the Midwest, especially Arizona..ENJOY
Frankly, I started this book thinking it was just another Western. Well, it is a Western but combine it with a little Indiana Jones and Have Gun Will Travel and it becomes an interesting story. This was well written but I think I stepped in a series and I could have known more about the main character. Nice shoot them up, action adventure story.
Conrad Browning-aka Kid Morgan- decides to help out two pilgrims being pursued by an Italian count. All are looking for a religious artifact missing two hundred years. The Count is willing to kill anyonew who gets in his way, or rather have them killed.
Found this at the local bookstore, so am caught back up in order. Other then the first two, the books really don't have to be read in order, so not a big deal.
Out author not only knows our Western history but enlightens us also on what life may have been like very long ago, and how events of long ago may affect the present.
