I had assumed this was going to be a book of photos with some notes on the details or thinking behind them. Instead, it was a collection of photos and associated poetic musings. Sometimes the links between images and words were relatively straightforward, other times they were more ethereal and difficult to pin down.
Overall, I found the book lyrical, meditative, and evocative. An interesting experience.
You can feel the connections between the visuals and the words! Hiva Rashvand’s contemplations on photos taken is masterful. When you catch what connects the photo and the prose it reminds you of how we can be very different, while also having very common reactions to heartwarming feelings brought about by little, captured, moments in time. So much said, with so few words. A make-you-feel-good read!
"Thoughts Behind the Shots: A Photography Collection, Poetry, Prose" by Hiva Rashvand is a lovely blend of visual and literary artistry. Rashvand's book is an exploration of the emotions and stories that linger behind each photograph. She weaves poetic narratives with each image and invites readers into a deeply personal space. It’s a captivating journey through the lens and pen of a gifted artist.
I enjoy photography and an occasional book of poetry. This was a nice little combination of both with photos that I could stare into for a long time and verses on the same page that took me beyond the photo in my mind. It was a very nice escape book - very relaxing.
Water no get enemy The two-laced hands were my favorite allegory. It captured my imagination and reminded me of a stanza in an Afrobeat song that went…if water killed your child, you would still have to use water to shower…. Think about that.
Hiva’s innovation of storytelling with poetic pictorials was excellent. I will recommend this book. One person found this helpful
