Mary O’Reilly #12

Treasured Legacies

Rate this book
Was it raining outside? Dale Johnson wondered as he woke up. It was dark and he could hear the sound of rain hitting the roof. Suddenly, he was pelted with something small and hard. He opened his eyes and sat up, nearly fainting in the process. His head was pounding. What the hell happened?

He was pelted again and realized he was being hit with small pieces of corn. His stomach twisted and his heart pounded. He wasn’t in his house; he was in the grain silo!

Struggling to his feet, he lurched to the wall and found the hatch. He found the latch and pushed, but it was stuck fast. Pounding on it, bloodying his hands, he tried again and again to unlatch the door.

The grain was now being emptied into the silo in a rapid rate. Dust from the corn was filling the interior and Dale coughed as he continued to fight with the door. “Help me,” he yelled, “I’m caught in here!”

The roar of the auger and the dump truck drowned out his voice, but he kept calling out and pounding on the metal door. “I’m in here,” he screamed, as the grain filled the bottom of the silo, first covering his feet, then his knees, his hips and finally, it was waist high.

He thought about his family, especially his wife, who would be waiting supper for him. He thought about his grandkids, who he’d never see grow up. He thought about his kids and prayed they wouldn’t blame themselves for the accident. Finally, as the grain moved up past his chin, he took a final deep breath and thought about dying.

A farm accident or murder? Could the murderer be one of his own children? And how will the ghost’s legacy change Mary’s future?

When you have a special gift you have to use it and Mary O'Reilly has been given quite a gift. Mary sees dead people and her job is to help them solve their lingering issues so that they can move on to the other side.
As usual Terri Reid spins a quiet tail that leads Mary through the twists and turns in these poor souls past lives so that they can have closure and move on. With the help of Bradly, Mary's new husband and a very special guardian angel, Mary is able to help these restless spirits.
I love these characters and the humor that Terri brings with them as they work together to solve these mysteries!

Terri Reid happens to be one of my absolute favorite authors (and I read a LOT of books!) And with Treasured Legacies she proves that she belongs there in my top 3! We last left Mary just finding out she was pregnant, and the story picks right up where it left off. This book is all about Dale, who would kill him and why, when he was a beloved father and a simple farmer. Although it seems obvious, Terri always has her little twists and turns that keep you turning page after page long after you should have gone to bed! (At least in my case, it's 440 AM here!) Clarissa seems to be starting to accept that Mary and Bradley want her for the long run, which makes me like her again, and Mary experiences a few of my dreaded pregnancy woes (ugh morning sickness!) Great job again Terri, I will be EAGERLY anticipating your next novel, and your next, and your next..

Treasured Legacies by Terri Reid

In the 12th novel of the Mary O'Reilly series we see Mary helping a ghost by the name of Dale Johnson. He was murdered due to the fact of not wanting to sell his land. Can Mary help out the Johnson family find who had killed their father?
In the Alden household the family is receiving therapy to help Clarissa with her traumatic issues of abandonment, and trust issues. Also, Mary is slightly under the weather due to morning sickness. Not a dull moment goes on in the Alden residence.

Mary O'Reilly is trying to settle into her new married life, but between the behavior problems with her new stepdaughter Clarissa, and the discovery that she is pregnant, things are dicey. And then Rosie asks her to help out with a possible haunting at a farmhouse that is up for sale. I love this series and can honestly say that each story gets better. This one actually provides Mary with three ghost hauntings to solve, supported all the while by her new husband, Police Chief Bradley. Looking forward to her next adventure.

Hurry up Terri with book 13....pleeeez.

I'm in love with the Mary O'Reilly, well Mary Alden now, series. I try to read them slowly so they'll last...it never works out that way. I know that there has to be yet another book in the works because we all have to be present for the birth of her baby. I became enchanted with book one and could hardly contain myself when #12 was finally released. Will Mary have to give up the Roadster?

I think I'm addicted to this series! The main mystery in this one was more low-key and sophisticated, which was a nice change from the over-the-top drama of recent books. Reid is letting some of the characters breathe instead of just plowing forward with action-action-action. I liked that. I also liked how she weaved in the minor mysteries.

So this time around Mary is pregnant not only do they have to explain this to Clarissa but hope she will behave. Also there is now three mysteries saw. One of them involve a farmer name Dale who was murdered and that’s the main part. And at the ice cream store it shows two more ghost. One is a teenage girl from long ago waiting for her boyfriend to go cruising and another is a little boy waiting for his mother. Of course Mary solves everything no one gets hurt and it’s a nice little read.

Back on target after the last one

It was good - fast paced, funny, intriguing. Clarissa wasn't an issue in this book liken the last. What was missing was Ian. It threw the balance off - like when Mike wasn't in it. I hope he's back soon cause they need him to bounce off Mary. Otherwise worth your time.

Boo who

I did not like this one as much as the others So that's why the 4 stars instead of the 5 obviously You can't hit 100%With 100% of people All of the time This is a good story But it was bringing you to the end And I don't think That's what the writer intended To do but To leave things open

Thank goodness

A great mystery. Never saw who did it. Humor and a fun ending. Loved it. I hadn't found you due to your coversbeing black a white and sort of blah. I get them now. But a color one 1⃣ and then might make someone like me start earlier. But I will add you to my be author's list to read all you write for the current and future.

Required reading

I read this book when it first came out. I loved it then, but I needed it now. It should be required for anyone who has lost their spouse, loved one or partner in life. I lost my husband four months ago and this book in particular plus the whole series reminded me that we are only parted by time. We will be together again someday. Thank you Terri

I really enjoyed this adventure. Mary and her family are continuing to grow and she was able to help others move on. The author does a great job in such a short time making me care about the deceased and eager to learn what happened.

Wow, I read this one in a day! It may be my favorite so far. I loved the murder mystery; it unfolded at a perfect pace with great characters. I loved everything about this book, especially the assortment of ghosts, and the tie-ins with other characters. Can't wait to start the next one!

The main couple interactions is a plain torture...
I’d hate to give up such a good series just because i couldn’t handle the over the top cheesy love not so cute but silly sappy romance or whatever. It’s a shame.

Much better! No children being hurt or taken this time. Really enjoyed the 3 cases involved. I like the idea that loved ones can let you know they are there, even if they have moved on.

I can't get enough of this series. The mysteries are all different enough to keep it interesting, the cast of characters are likeable and entertaining, the stories are quick and easy reads and overall it's a great way to spend an afternoon in the world of Mary O'Reilly and friends.

Book 12 in one of my favorite series finds 'psychic sleuth' Mary, her police chief husband Bradley and Bradley's daughter Clarissa still adjusting to family life and changes coming up. She is asked by her friend Rosie to look into a farm that isn't selling due to the uncomfortable feelings prospective buyers are getting from house. There Mary meets Dale, the farmer, killed in a grain silo and not by accident and helps him to find his killer while also working on two other mysteries--finding the mother of a young boy's host and helping a teenage girl from the 50's who has not been able to move on. It was nice to get away from the serial killers (and Mary and family being in grave danger) plots of the main mysteries of last few books--this one seemed a little gentler and sweeter which I liked. This series continues to be good--easy, engaging reads with loveable characters that are easy to root for. Looking forward to #13. ;-)
