Imogen Green runs a shop in London. But it’s not just any shop. It’s been in her family for generations. Behind the façade of gifts and trinkets for all occasions, there is a room where she concocts potions and lotions to make all kinds of wishes come true. As long as the wishes are ethical, that is.
Her only problem is Detective Miller.
The grumpy officer is suspicious about the goings-on in The Little Shop of Possibilities, but so far hasn’t found any proof of any wrong-doing. When he and his partner, Detective Rose, are sent to investigate a series of break-ins along the high street, Imogen must tread the fine line between fulfilling her vow to help those in need, and avoiding Detective Miller’s need to enforce the law.
Imogen’s side hustle may be seen as black-marketing by the rule-following police officer, but the real danger is the black magic that seems to be increasingly prevalent in London. Who is the dark practitioner causing Imogen to work overtime to counteract their effects? And will Imogen and Detective Miller be able to work together to solve the two cases before it’s too late?
Author of love stories with a difference: The Strange Imagination of Pippa Clayton, Daisy Roberts is Dead and Imogen Green's Little Shop of Possibilities. Claire's festive short story collection Love, Christmas was released in 2024.
I think this is the best book in Claire Gallagher's rapidly growing catalogue. A mix of romance swirled with just the right amount of fantastical seasoning.
I really am loving this authors story telling. Her writing style brings you quickly into the story and lets you get to know all the characters quickly. Loved this quick read - didn’t want it to end!
I thought this was a fun story and different than I typically read. I could truly imagine the shop, loft, and storefront. Imogene was a delightful character!
My only complaint is that I wish this novella was a full length novel. The characters are developed, the plot was engaging, and the potential for future stories is definitely there.
I got into the book really quickly but there were too many little things that weren't quite right that took me out of the story. Like the writing style is very basic. If you enjoy 'show, don't tell' sort of writing then you probably won't like this book. Also, the characters felt inconsistent, especially the MMC. He went from just quiet and grumpy, to rude and borderline misogynistic. He'd say "Shut up, woman", boss her around in her own home and slapped her ass. I mean, if you find those qualities in a man attractive good for you but yeeeah big ick for me.
This witchy closed door romance novella was super cute! I liked the contrast of modern day and witchy traditions. A perfect autumn read.
It felt a little fast paced/like some character development was glossed over to fit into novella length, perhaps. But overall really enjoyed. The epilogue threw me for a minute, I cannot tell a lie 🤣🤣
I would absolutely read other works by this author. This was a fun witchy world to read about.
I was thankful to get an ARC of this boom in exchange for my honest review!
Book 57 of 2024 was “Imogen Green’s Little Shop of Possibilities” by Claire Gallagher. It was my first read by this author, and it won’t be my last. It was a great cozy mystery/romance/with a little magic sprinkled in. I could easily see reading a whole series about Imogen and her detective. 4 out of 5 ⭐️.
Its a cute little book to give yourself a break between larger series. It's light and easy to read and passes by quickly. Keep in mind to help it move that quickly you give up pretty much all world building and character development.
I read the first few pages and cannot wait to read the rest. As soon as I finish a couple of books I committed to read. This will be a nice break from too much serious reading.
This was the first Claire Gallagher book that I’ve read. It was a quick read, but there was plenty of time to get to know the main cast of characters. I would love to see Imogen, Xavier and Annie (not to mention Bobby, Bogrud, Millie…) appear in another book. And I will check out Gallagher’s other books. I’m curious to see if they also have a magical aspect.
