That was…. not great. Wattpad mafia vibes with a thousand eye roll inducing and cringey moments.
Alina’s father is the head of the Moskal family which makes Alina a target. Kane works for the Moskal family and are ordered to protect Alina. Kane and Alina used to have a fling but nothing can happen now, it would put lives in danger. (How they already knew each other? Not a clue. We get no backstory)
- The H does not have a personality(warning, he’s also blond). I didn’t care for him at all.
- One of the most unlikable heroine’s ever. I’m pretty sure she was supposed to come across as a bad bitch but she came across as a spoiled brat.
Alina ”demanded” respect from other families when she took over from her father. She had not proved herself to anyone and acted like a self entitled idiot. And everyone had to bow down to her??? Respect is earned not given.
The mafia aspect of this was a mess. I don’t know how a mafia opperates but this one wasn’t opperating at all. I’ve read my fair share of unbelivable mafia romance books but this one took the price. Nothing made sense.
There is no tension or buildup, the h throws herself at the H over and over. Even better? Alina knows if her father finds out they did anything he would kill Kane and she doesn’t even try to stay away. It didn’t seem like she cared about Kane even though they were supposed to be in love secretly from the start(I think). No love was ever found in the air.
The epilogue was so poorly executed. I would not even go as far as to say HFN. I got the impression the hero was unhappy with their current situation and the heroine did not care about what he wanted.

I found this to be a fast read with instant attraction between a forbidden match. The bodyguard and daughter of his employer clash like waves. It's a lot of I can't keep my hands to myself moment that had me reading till the end. The action had entertained me but the love was bound to happen between them, her character was confident and she didn't hesitate to go for him. I liked the characters. And I found the family twist unexpected, it was good.

This book has plenty of action and spice! Our romance is completed with two extremely well written characters. What I love most about our main character Alina is her strength and her growth throughout the book. We watch her grow stronger and more resilient as she progresses. We have a bit of well written violent scenes that flow evenly with the storyline. Overall, a great mafia read!

First of all, I’d like to thank the author @fblackthornbooks @authorfrancesblackthorn for having gifted me an ARC from her new book. With this one, it’s her fourth.
After having read the two from the Under Seattle’s Sky Series, that were so sweet and candy, came Corrupted by sin, with some spice and a quick read.
Now Frances surprises us with Tainted! What a great read! Lots of spice and action. Both Alina and Kane are great characters, and throughout the story, we can see how Alina grows and becomes stronger and even colder.
I think that the author has grown A LOT since her first book. Besides being a totally different genre, there’s much more consistency in her writing. All matters are approached well, nothing that doesn’t flow. The violent scenes are well written and the book captivated my attention from beginning to end!! Congrats on this first Broken Path Book! Eager to read more.

NetGalley provided me with a copy of Tainted by Frances Blackthorn published by Victory Editing Netgalley Co-op is a story about forbidden love in the mafia world. After witnessing the murder of his parents, Kane is forced to survive on the street in the best way he knows how. Until he lands a gig with Nikolai Moskal as a bodyguard to his daughter, Alina. She is everything forbidden, enchanting, dangerous, and very much off-limits. Who could resist her?
I read this story cover to cover. I loved every bit of the story line. The story wasn't super hard to follow or complicated. Like every good story at parts, it could be frustrating watching the characters develop, but any good reader can read past that and see the true worth of this book. The first of the Broken Path series, and I can't wait to read more by this author. I would give this book 4 stars out of 5 only for the redundances in the beginning that alter and changes with the characters as you read on. By the time I finished I knew I would recommend this to my dark romance lovers who loves a bad boy with a soft side. Bravo to this Author she did well!

This book had so much action and spice that I finished it in a couple of hours. I’m a lover for the whole mafia, dark romance books and this did not disappoint.
Alina, isn’t the normal princess you would think. She’s ready to handle anything that’s thrown her way. Her father who is ruthless orders for her to be protected by a bodyguard but has plans of his own.
Kane, the bodyguard, takes his work and jobs seriously. When asked to make sure Alina is protected and nothing happens to her. He was caught by surprise what that would really mean.
Her father has secrets and plans of his own but Kane comes to the rescue with a plan of his own. Watching how the events unfold had me turning the pages faster and faster to see how it would end.
If you love a good bodyguard, mafia, or dark romance book. This is one you don’t want to miss out on!

Things I liked:
This was a short read—just more than one hundred pages. So if you like a mafia-bodyguard short love story, then you might like this.
Alina is strong and has a bold character, which I want in a female main character.
Kane is strong, and I feel like his character as a mafia member is realistic enough. I mean, even if a person is in that kind of field, surely he gets hurt, and not all the time they are strong, right?
On the other hand, there is nothing that I really don't like. Maybe I'm looking for more depth in the emotions of the characters. I just noticed that because it was so fast-paced, there are emotions and details that have been missed.
But all in all, reading Tainted was all worth it. I liked it so much! Spicy scenes are so hot 🔥

if you like short reads, spice, action, a bodyguard, mafia, & dark romance then this book is for you!
i liked the story a lot, i do wish the romance was a bit of a slower burn but that’s just my vibe & a rather more in-depth into kane & alina’s own backstory & of the other mafia family business backstory too. i liked how the story was mostly of kanes pov except for the last two chapters before the epilogue that’s of alina. i really enjoyed the side characters you meet in this story stian, klara, & ari! with the epilogue could there be the possibility of a second book maybe?? overall, this book was really good!
don’t forget to grab it on august 11th!

I loved this book from start to finish, it is quick to read and very streamlined in its plot. Its persoanages are unique and so well written, I loved how it captured the progress of the main character, Alina, during the story and the tragic events that were happening, she is a strong, resilient and above all, self-confident protagonist, I loved how she faced the problems and how she overcame her own demons. Truly the writing is EVERYTHING.
The action scenes omg, I love them, they are violent in just the right amount, which I love because if a book doesn't have action it bores me easily and this one didn't even come close.
I love a good bodyguard trope, and this one without a doubt I loved it, the pairing of Alina and Kane is explosive and frankly right for each other, they complement each other in everything and the spicy is SUPERIOR, I'm a huge fan.
Can't wait to read more from the author!!!!

This is a well written book with strong characters in Mafia Princess Alina and her soldier protector Kane. The author does a great job developing the story and painting her scenes perfectly. She pulled me in with all the action, danger, suspense and violence as well as the kidnapping and secrets. Add in the romance and all the emotions throughout and she delivers a terrific mafia story.

He used to be a hitman for a notorious mafia, but things take a turn when he's assigned to protect the mafia boss's feisty daughter, Alina Moskal. She's beautiful, strong-willed, and stubborn, which makes it even harder for Kane to resist falling for her. But his sole responsibility is to keep her safe and nothing more. Can he protect her from himself?
This is a short and spicy dark romance with plenty of action to keep you hooked. Just a heads up, though – there are triggers in the story, like torture and killings. But if you’re ok with that, then you're in for a treat with this page-turner by Frances Blackthorne. It's a fast-paced book, with no unnecessary details, and the twist in the story is fantastic. The way Frances developed the characters is spot on. I love the deep bond between Kane and Stian, the secret brotherhood that nobody else knows about. It would be amazing if there's another book coming up, focusing on Stian and Ari. Plus, I'm really curious about Klara and want to know more about her. I think this calls for a trilogy!

Tainted is the story of Alina and Kane. Alina is the daughter of a mafia boss and
Kane is ordered to be Alinas bodyguard by her father. They have a past together which is hinted at the beginning but Kane tells her this is a fresh start and he can be nothing more than her bodyguard. Kane tries to keep the relationship professional but they can’t escape their feelings for one another. Alina is a strong character who’s not afraid to get involved in the family business or stand up for what she thinks is right. Tainted is a fast paced, action packed story.
The one thing I did find was I needed more context of Kane and Alina’s past as I found it hard to connect to their love story and them as characters. They clearly had deep feelings for each and it would have been nice to have seen these develop or just some more glimpses into them before he became her bodyguard to understand their relationship better.

When I was able to sit down and read this book it was such a quick read! So much happens in this book that’s it’s a continuous page turner and then when you reach the end you’re like “it’s over?!”
I really enjoyed this book it’s told from Kane’s POV for majority with a few chapters in Alina’s POV towards the end.
Alina grew on me, I didn’t really like her (or more I was unsure of her) in the first few chapters, but towards the end she definitely grew on me.
I LOVE Kane! He is that tortured soul book boyfriend (cuz you know he has to have a troubled past) so having majority of the book in his POV made me so happy!
There is Mafia vibes in the book (Alina’s father is a real piece of work and got what he deserved) but it’s focused more on Kane and Alina with Kane as her bodyguard.
Although I won’t lie Kane and Stian’s friendship is probably one of my favorite parts of the book.
What Stian does for Kane is just amazing! We all need a bestie like that!

I can't lie this book took my back to my Wattled days and I am not complaining. I loved the forbidden romance between Kane and Alina, the bodyguard of the mafia princess. This was a very fast paced story with a quick turn of events in the middle that I did not see coming.
At first I wasn't keen on Alina I thought she was a tad annoying but I very quickly grew to like her and loved the fact that she wasn't portrayed as a weak girl but rather a strong independent woman who stood her ground. I'm happy we were able to see her character development and growth throughout the story.
If you're looking for a quick mafia romance read I would definitely give this book a go when it come out, 11/8/23!

An interesting aspect of this book is that the entire story is told from the MMC’s POV, except for two chapters. I don’t think I’ve ever read a romance written this way and it made for a unique reading experience. And we have Alina, a bold FMC who knows Kane is who she wants and isn’t afraid to make the first move. Her character arc into the leader she needs to be is a dark journey but one necessary if she wants to survive amongst cutthroats enemies.
There is instant attraction between the two and the story is pretty fast paced but it worked for the length of the novel. I really enjoyed it and recommend it those who enjoy these tropes! I’m also hoping we get stories for the other characters we meet, especially Stian and Ari 👀.

I've read my fair share of mafia romance/suspense books and they all have a good amount of sweet/spicy that balances out the action. While this book was a decent mafia story, I felt like it was just missing something. I wanted to root for the main characters but the introduction to them fell flat and I didn't really know their "story". How did they become lovers and fall for each other? I wish that were explained more. The action was good and I would recommend for if you are looking for a somewhat spicy mafia story.

I personally liked this story of dark romance. It's not the darkest I've read, but it is still classified as such.
What I enjoyed most was that its only 142 pages long so it's nice for a quick read.
There was an error on page 95 that I found.
I enjoyed the story because of the female character, she was crying out to be the boss and the story showed her vulnerability and how she grew in confidence.
Overall I enjoyed the story, and there was just enough spice to the story . I would recommend to read.
What I enjoyed most was that its only 142 pages long so it's nice for a quick read.
There was an error on page 95 that I found.

‘Tainted’ by Frances Blackthorn is a mafia dark romance. Kane is Alina’s bodyguard but he’s been her father’s assassin far longer. Alina is a mafia princess who has no illusions of her father’s cruelty. Their sexual attraction is too much to ignore which sets off a series of betrayals and violence. Frances has written a story of passion, courage, and resilience in the life of mafia men and women. Lots of action and changes for Alina.

This my 1st read buy this Author and very much enjoyed. Kane has one job to protect. his bosses Moskal daughter Alina. this is no ordinary family this is a mafia family. But from day one it's going to be hard as their attraction. Kane lost his parents and never knew where his sister went. and has never forgotten her. But there is big trouble for Kane will he come out the over end alive. I loved this story will be reading more from this author.

What I liked about this book:
✨It was a quick read with only 152 pages.
✨This book had the forbidden match trope/ Bodyguard
✨There was lots of action and some spice 🌶️
What I didn’t like about this book:
🌛at times it was to quick paced
🌛 I didn’t feel much of a connection with either MC
🌛 I felt like this story should have been longer
It’s definitely not for everyone but I’d recommend if you like Mafia romances, bodyguard romances, or just need a spicy short read!

This is a very fast paced book. Kane is being challenged each day and when he is given his new assignment he is resigning himself to a life of torture. Protecting the one thing he can’t have no matter how much he wants her. Will Kane be able to protect her while keeping a distance or will all of that go up in smoke when things shift?

The elements of romance and suspense made it quite a top notch read for me. I was thoroughly enthralled by both the hero and heroine. And that ending? I never saw it coming. I seriously can’t wait enough to get my hands on the second instalment already. Really loved and enjoyed it!
