Phases of the Moon #4

Unblessed Witch

Rate this book
This wouldn’t be the first time I had died. Would it be the last?

Death at Astaroth’s hands was something I’d experienced more times than I could count. This time, though, as I lay on a slab of stone while he tries to siphon my magic for his own use, I realize just how incredibly different it is. I have something to live for—someone to live for. Five men waiting for me on the other side.

I’m fighting not only for my men, but the fate of Carmina.

Will I be able to defeat death and reap the reward? Or is this truly the end?

Unblessed Witch features characters that are all 18+. This is not a high school academy book, and the contents are intended for mature audiences. This book includes violence, mature content, PTSD, flashbacks of abuse, and sex. There is no bullying from the harem, just psychotic men trying to claim their girl.

Unblessed Witch is book four in the Phases of the Moon series, which is set within the shared universe of Dark Imaginarium Academy. All series can be read independently, but characters have crossovers and it is highly encouraged to read all within the universe to understand the world in its entirety.

Series within the Universe:
- Phases of the Moon by M. Sinclair
- The Storm Dragons’ Mate by M. Sinclair
- The Creatures We Crave by R.L. Caulder
- Blood Oath by R.L. Caulder

After reading Shadow Witch's ending, I will admit I was a little nervous going into this book, but I needn't have worried because M. Sinclair pulled through. Unblessed Witch was incredible! Seriously, the storyline was unexpected but engaging, there was even more magic, and do I even have to mention how much I love these characters? The ending was perfection! I couldn't have asked for anything better.

I can't believe it's over. The world that R.L. Caulder and M. Sinclair built was incredible. The Dark Imaginarium has to be one of my favorite universes. I had such a great time reading about Deva and her psychos. I'm going to miss both them and this wonderful world.

With 4 books and over 1000 pages between them
I was expecting a lot more. Despite them all being obsessed with each other from the get go the romance was a bit lacking. I don’t have a problem with insta love but the relationship still has to be interesting.

The fact this entire series takes place over just a few weeks does it no favors. Everything moves too quickly and it lacks impact.

Skippable series.

Deva is the type of character that you root for from her first moment on page. She's feisty and resilient, yet reserved, selfless, and surprisingly gentle. This last book of her series is fitting, and she finally attains the peace she has long deserved.

Each of the fellas are unfailing in their devotion, and they smother her in affection every chance they get. I felt like a proud auntie when Deva defeated Astaroth, and the buildup to get there was satisfying. This series is one I'll probably re-read every year!

Man this book was one heck of a ride! Certainly fitting for Deva. There’s a lot of ups and downs to deal with, emotionally and physically. The guys and Deva somehow pull through it, they are difficult to best when they are united. Astaroth gives everything he’s got and pulls out all the stops, and he’s formidable without all that. This is a wonderful series and I love the peace that Deva is able to find within herself.

What an ending! M Sinclair really is a genius with her world-building and character creation. Deva and her men were just phenomenal right to the last page. This was 100% a worthy ending to the DIA universe. I can’t wait to read what she comes up with next!

SIGH. Another beautiful series from M.Sinclair. I fall in love with her characters. So much emotion, so much depth, so much energy. I am constantly rereading her books as I'm in love with them

Unblessed Witch is the final book in the Phases of the Moon series, part of the Dark Imaginarium Academy. This book wraps up Deva and her men’s story. A HEA is expected with this book, but I just wish that there had been more drama to lead to an epic conclusion that lead to the HEA done up with a bow in the two epilogues.
For me, there was just too much dialogue. I wanted less dialogue in this book and less internal monologues. It was just too heavy on that, because that was over half the book. We get a steamy scene sprinkled in here and there. There is an occasional twist, but nothing truly surprising.
There was no “push” for me to devour this book to uncover how it all ends. It was just kinda “meh” for me, unfortunately.

Slightly underwhelming ending

This series started off very interesting but, like the other DIA series, has an underwhelming ending. I will say, unlike Bexley in the dragon series, Deva does get to show her strength in the end but, too often this powerhouse woman is overshadowed by the guys around her, incomprehensibly. The guys are also more acceptable in this book than some of the earlier books and other DIA series but, that's mostly because they become shadows of themselves. All in all, I don't hate it but I've waited an awfully long time (11 months) compared to the length of this book (~230 pages) just to be disappointed in the end.

Deva (FMC) definitely went through a hell of a lot in this concluding book of this series. Her character had to evole and develop in order to finally be in the right place to face Astraroth. I've like Devas guys throughout this series but they all stepped up and gave Deva the strength she needed after how the last book ended. I also loved the inclusion of the other characters from crossover books in the Dark Imagarium Academy series as well as the brilliant epilogue that gave us a snapshot of the future. A cracking ending to an outstanding series. Loved It.

I really like M. Sinclair's books but I now wait until every book in the series is out. I don't like reading a book then having to wait a year for the next one, because I forget what happened in the first book and have to go back and read it again. I totally understand why you would do this but I still wait until the series is done to read it.

This was a really good book and ended the whole series nicely. I would recommend reading this series to anyone who is a lover of fantasy!

This was so good. The ending to the series was everything I could ask for.

There’s betrayal, twists, a ton of action, sweet revenge and I loved every minute of this.

Deva and her men grow more powerful and their bonds strengthen as they prepare for the battle of their lives. The men are sweet and unhinged and I loved it.

They all had a tough start so I was happy they finally get the HEA they deserved and a world changing for the better. Definitely recommend!

Thoroughly enjoyable

Although I downloaded the Kindle, I listened to the Audible version as I couldn’t physically sit down to read. Before I knew it the series was complete. It was thoroughly enjoyable.

Such a great end to the series. I love how supportive deva's men are of her. Deva is such a strong character and I love her getting her vengance and happy ending.

I've never been so angry about anything M. Sinclair has written, and I didn't think it was possible.

Finished - Final Review
I am not impressed by this book or this series.

At the start of book one, Deva was a powerful badass—a skilled assassin and a cunning thief. But the moment she stepped foot in Dark Imaginarium Academy, all her character growth came to a screeching halt. Her group of guys completely derailed her potential, controlling, manipulating, and outright bullying her into doing whatever they wanted. And. She. Let. Them.

She went from a strong, self-assured character to someone weak and indecisive, constantly trying to keep the peace and stop her men from doing what needed to be done. Instead of being the force of nature she was meant to be, Deva became a wishy-washy, guilt-ridden shadow of her former self. It was exhausting to read and disappointing.

I know the author had a lot going on in her personal life—pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum—while writing this series, and I can sympathize... But I hope this series was an outlier and not a reflection of how future strong female leads will be written. I don’t want to see another fierce, powerful heroine reduced to a weak, little bitch.

It seems like I have waited forever for this final book to come out lol

Everything came together in this final book beautifully! I especially enjoyed the beginning with how Deva managed to outmaneuver Astaroth while being held against her will.

I do wish we had seen/heard more on his reaction to that. That’s just me though 😂

It surprised me with one of the scenes in this book (in a good way) and I’m glad Deva was able to get a little bit of closure and understanding in what actually went down (sorry — no spoilers lol).

The guys were all super protective and possessive — and let’s not forget slightly unhinged (my favorite kind of guy 😂); but it was awesome the way they stood with Deva instead of trying to hide her away for her own good. They let her take the lead and make her own decisions (obviously there was a conversation about those decisions before anything was decided — another bonus), but that seriously impressed me since most often the over-protective hero(s) pretty much takes (or tries to) the heroine’s choice from her in an attempt to keep her safe.

That can get frustrating and, at times, be counterproductive to what they have been saying throughout a book (or series).

M. Sinclair is one of my favorite authors simply because she manages to create the perfect balance in her male characters (yesyes, in real like these types would be walking red-flags, but that’s why it’s fiction 😂): men known for being slightly (or fully) unhinged but when they meet the right woman are possessive, protective and loving — while still being psychotic to everyone else 😈😂

🔹3.5-4 stars

🔹RH no MM

🔹Final book in a four book total series. Set in a larger world of the Dark Imaginarium Academy.

🔹Not much spice and while I’m ok with that but there could have been more imho. Only issue is the spice was paced at weird times which just makes it feel out of place. This last book was more battle/destroy the bad guy/wrap up the series so ig it was hard to get the P into the V when you are running around risking death at every turn.

🔹Gore. Be prepared.

🔹I overall liked the series and plot but skimmed a bit in this last book. I am just not a longer series reader. I’ve come to terms with this.

🔹Great HEA and glimpse into their future 15 years ahead. Love that she did that for us. Skip the epilouge #2 if you don’t want to read about any kids.

I really like the fmc Deva. She wasn’t TSTL and while she had been brought up to be an assassin, she wasn’t some overbearing badass who could “do it all by myself” 😤

The guys were all different enough but again, a large harem just confuses me esp when these series aren’t finished when I pick them up to read. 🤦🏻‍♀️😝I forget who is what and I just don’t have the time or energy to start all over again. I really REALLY wish authors would give readers a nice overview to catch us up on what had occurred in the book before. I know authors need time to write, so give us that gift of a review of the prior book!

Deva is the kind of character you can't help but root for from the very first page. She’s a beautiful blend of feisty resilience and quiet strength—both selfless and surprisingly gentle. In the final installment of her series, she finally finds the peace she has long been denied, and it’s a satisfying conclusion to her journey.

This book is packed with everything I love: betrayal, unexpected twists, non-stop action, and a hefty dose of sweet, sweet revenge. I was hooked from start to finish.

As Deva and her men prepare for the battle of their lives, their power and the strength of their bond grow even more compelling. The men themselves are a perfect mix of sweetness and unpredictability, and their dynamic with Deva is both thrilling and heartwarming.

Given their tough beginnings, I was overjoyed to see them finally earn the happily-ever-after they so richly deserve, and to witness a world being changed for the better in the process.

I highly recommend this book (and the series as a whole) to anyone looking for a gripping, emotional ride with unforgettable characters. As always, this review is entirely my own opinion, and I received no compensation for it.

I loved this ending so much. Deva is the epitome of bad witch with a B that you root for from the beginning. And seeing how far she has come, and what it took to get there makes you root for her that much more. This is one of those stories where I probably would have loved it even without the romance aspect. However, lucky us, it does have the romance aspect so we get to read about such a deep backstory for so many characters who are well developed and rounded. Add in their questionable morals, protectiveness, and love/lust for Deva, and this story is everything you could want.
It’s got it all. An amazing, deep main character with a plethora of heartbreaking backstory, a Big Bag who you love to hate because they are all the things wrong with the world, some morally gray characters who would do some questionable things for the people they care about, and world building that makes you wish you could go there in real life. Paired with a plot/storyline that just hooks you in from the first chapter, and you can’t tell me there’s any reason NOT to read the series/book.

So I saw a couple reviews that said the guys were greedy and wanting more magic. Which if you actually read the book is entirely untrue

Spoilers ahead
Deva is about to die at Astaroths hand and instead takes all her magic that he’s trying to steal and flows through the bond to her men. They didn’t ask for this magic. She gave it so that he wouldn’t have it.

Then, when she came back to life, they told her to funnel her magic into them so that it would be more manageable. Not once they ask for more magic not once they try to steal her powers or anything like that so people really need to read before making assumptions or just judging based off what you think is happening.

I wish we got more of their future at the end of the book, but I did love the series. I absolutely love everything this author rights and I can’t wait for more in this world another whatever she writes next.

Also, if you’re someone who reads reviews, don’t listen to everything people say. A lot of people have assumptions and a lot of people say what they wanna say but honestly just read it for yourself.

what an ending

This was so bitter sweet. Deva and her story is in my top 3 favorites of M Sinclair stories. Her and her guys have just been through so much. So while yes I was excited to read the end of the story, I’m also sad. That being said, it was the perfect ending to their story. I wouldn’t change a single thing. Deva is as strong as ever and I don’t mean just physically but mentally as well. She gets to have her final showdown with her biggest demon from her past. And she shines. She takes her power and finds the way to help better the world she lives in. I also love how she takes her past experiences and wants to make the lives better of her community as a whole. She’s the best person for that. I was literally clapping along to this book as I was reading it. If you haven’t read any books from the Dark Imaginarium Academy, I highly suggest you do. Even if you don’t want to read all of the books in this universe, i definitely recommend giving this one a look.

An amazing ending to the story of Deva and her mates. I’ve always been curious on discovering how Astaroth could ultimately be defeated, and this was poetry mixed in with a healthy dose of karma. There is plenty of action involved in this final book in the series, and a wonderful epilogue that truly put a big smile on my face.

This shared world is one of my favorite places to visit. It holds so many interesting characters, fascinating worldbuilding, and I love how it’s all connected with each other. I loved Deva’s story: the struggles she faced and overcame, her amazing mates, the found family they built around themselves, … And there is a lot more to love once you focus more on the details, like their familiars and the connections between them.

So yeah, this was a wonderful series and it’s a little bittersweet to say goodbye to them. I wouldn’t mind some second generation stories in the future…

Whew - what an ending!!

I am so happy with the ending to this story. Deva and her guys faced the ultimate showdown...a war with Astaroth. Deva started the book captured...and spoilers, she was tortured and died. Holy man was that emotional. Seeing her spend time with her mom when she came back to life was healing. (You have to read this book to know how that's possible 😉) Understandably the guys did not want her to leave their side when they rescued her. Then she had to face her fears - war with Astaroth, being the one to defeat him, almost losing one of her men.
We do get two nice epilogues so we can see how things are going after the conclusion. It was healing to see how far Devas ideas for policies and a more equitable future for all witches played out. Also - their kids are so cute.
I encourage everyone to read this. But for sure start with book 1! And then binge all the other DIA books 🫣🤣

I can’t believe it’s the end for Deva and her men Grimshaw, Aleksander, Osborn, Lazaro, and Cage. We finally get the show down with Astaroath. He is trying to take over and has taken Deva. We see her coming into her new power and takes on the fight to finally be free. Along with the guys we finally see this final showdown. And we finally get to see Deva and the guys get their happily ever after. They truly deserve it after everything they have gone through. I loved watching her grow closer to each of them and watch their relationship build throughout the series. I also enjoyed how this series interwoven with the other three DIA series and we get glimpses of other catchers. It was also one of the few series that I really liked all of the guys equally with no favorites. Each one of them has a quality that Deva needs to be happy and she definitely helps keep them each sane. Such a great series that I would recommend for others to give a chance.

WoW!!! What an ending this was to the Phases of the Moon Series. I do believe that this has become one of my favorite of hers now. She is just such a good writer, I have really not liked one of her books.

So how can you be so excited for a book yet so sad? I was looking so forward this book but on the other hand sad because it is the last. And what a great ending!! M. Sinclair sure does know how to write endings that leave the readers happy!!

Deva as a character is strong, and likable. I admired her strength both mentally and physically. Man she sure does come through on her battles she needs to face like the queen she is. She is the type of character that I fan girl over so much. So many qualities I just love about her.

The epilogues, we were blessed to have them. I loved it even more, I ate up all that I could read of Deva and the guys.

Overall an amazing series, and one I would definitely recommend.

The Phases of the Moon books were a slight improvement over the Storm Dragons’ Mate series, but they still fell short of their potential. The protagonist, who has supposedly endured extreme trauma—including extensive torture and multiple deaths—doesn’t behave like someone who has lived through such experiences. Her trauma is mentioned, but not meaningfully explored or respected, making it feel more like a convenient backstory than a genuine part of her character.

She has five mates, and the relationship dynamic between them unfolds far too easily, without the complexity or emotional struggle that would have made it believable. The story also promised a powerful arc—she was meant to be the assassin of the big villain—but instead, she comes across as passive, lacking the strength and leadership one would expect from someone with her background.

There was enormous potential here, both in character depth and plot, but unfortunately, it wasn’t fully realised.

This final book in the Dark Imaginarium Academy world is a thrilling conclusion to Deva's story.

I've been looking forward to it for a long time, especially with that cliffhanger ending! (If you're not 100% sure what happened, just reread the last few chapters of the previous installment, and you're good to go)

Picking up right where the last book left off, it dives straight into the action-packed fight against Astaroth. So expect a lot of action and some tense situations (my poor heart).

While I would have loved to see more of the men in action with their amazing power, this book does a good job of wrapping up the story and giving us a satisfying ending.
It's like a warm hug, a perfect way to say goodbye to these beloved characters.

If you're a fan of the series, this book is a fitting end to a fantastic journey.

Great finale!✨

The final showdown has arrived, and boy was it a doozy. Well worth a read. Deva is such an amazing, fierce + resilient FMC. She's a true survivor in every way, + will do anything to protect those she loves. Everything comes to a head in this penultimate book. Everyone she loves is in jeopardy, + our fierce warrior is determined to protect them all. Get ready for oodles of action in this exciting read. I loved the characters, and the world building was oh so fun and multi -layered. What do you expect as it's part of the Dark Imaginarium Universe 😉. These characters finally get their HEA, and I loved the added epilogues where we get to see how things are at different points in time down the line. Just a glimpse into their future world, and boy is it fun. Spin off anyone? Overall a really fun read indeed!!

Wow! Wow! Wow!
So I'll start off saying going into this last book of dia i had mixed emotions. I was so sad to see the last of these amazing stories come to an end. On the other hand after that cliffhanger from before I was dying to know what was going to happen. Let's be honest if your like me you too were ready to see asteroth die a slow and painful death for everything he's done. Deva is so amazingly talented in how she's grown not only as a witch but in her personality. I appreciate so much that her past didn't define her. Her men have all been perfect matches. This story really shown in her coming full circle into her powers and forging a new path. I'm so sad to say goodbye but the ending was beautiful! Thank you sinclair and caulder for this amazing world and these four amazing ladies! I hope you would do something like this again.

It’s over :( Deva and her men fought for and won their peace and happily ever after. I feel so bad for the guys having to feel everything Deva went through when she was captured without being able to do anything about it. That and finding her coffin. I can’t blame Oz for losing his mind entirely. I find it amusing somehow that Lazaro, the calm collected one is also the one to lose his shit when something happens to her. I love that Deva only became more badass and that even with all her power, she wanted a normal school experience and then went on to be a teacher, not some kind of head of state as often happens in books. The ending was sweet. I liked how the kids were described and part of me really wants a novella of her friends’ stories with their men/man. I really enjoyed this series and will reread for sure.

This is the final Phases of the Moon book, and the last of the linked Dark Imaginarium Academy shared universe, and I can't think of a better finale!

We pick up immediately where the previous book ended, with Deva facing down Astaroth, and her men trying to find her and get her back. Exactly what they all do gives a satisfying conclusion to the cliffhanger and sets up the rest of the story.

Deva is a fighter, and her men are all wonderfully possessive, but also know when to take a step back and let her deal with things herself, which I love to see. They know what she's capable of! They are well suited to each other. I loved the reappearance of their familiars, who had been hidden away safely, such cuties!

I love finales and epilogues that show where they go after the story, and this has that in droves. I love a happy ending!
