'You shouldn't even exist. You're an anomaly. And we Time Lords stamp them out.'
The dark days have come again. It's the end for Gallifrey. The most learned civilisation in the universe has come to war. The Capitol is in ruins; pitched battles are an everyday occurrence, futures are being changed. The first Imperiatrix, back from the dead, has stolen power and nothing will stop her ambition.
Except, perhaps, for a small band of opposition who believe that it is time to stop running and fight back. But war demands sacrifice, and to rid Gallifrey of Pandora, Romana's will sacrifice will be great indeed. That is, if she can remember which Romana she actually is. For there is some warfare that is more pervasive than others...
It's completely different to the Time-Lord politics. Oh, the politics is still there, especially with Inquisitor Darkel scheming against Pandora and Matthias being very Braxiatel like with Romana and Pandora but I loved the fighting. I've always loved seeing the Time-Lord's fight and on audios.
I also loved Captain Annos, Commander Hallen and Leela in this and their friendship spark through wartime. And poor, poor Hallen. I suppose he did get his trial sort of with what he did to Leela's k9. Not in the way he expected.
I also LOVED Narvin. I love it when he's in stressful situations, he kind of makes puns or jokes like:" I just put the strong back in our stronghold."
And I loved the neutral talk scene with Narvin and Darkel. That was excellent.
Gallifrey just continues to remain my favourite series every time I listen to it.
Gallifrey Series 3 has already started in such an explosive way that every story ends on a note that immediately excites me for the next story. It's been such a fun and amazing experience so far, listening to these for the first time. It's weird to think that the first line of Gallifrey audios before its revival of sorts is nearly over.
Darkel is working against Pandora, believing her to be incredibly unstable and incompetent but realizing the danger, she has to do this discreetly. Narvin has a decision to make between his madam president or the 'winning' side and his true allegiance will finally be revealed. But Romana has a devastating plan to put into formation something that could destroy Pandora for good but also destroy herself.
Stewart Sheargold has concluded the Pandora storyline in such a fantastic way, despite this not being a finale it does feel like one in scale and it's incredibly well done. Just seeing how far the characters have come since the very first story is both very satisfying and heartwarming to me.
Overall: It's a brilliant story that has me intrigued to see what will happen next and what exactly Darkel will be up to now. 10/10
Lynda Bellingham could've read the phone book and I'd have listened to it all. What a deliciously menacing voice she had. 10/10 would listen to her talk politics with Narvin again.
I'm glad that Romana and Leela were able to make up; them being at odds added to the plot, but was also saddening. I'm starting to really like Inquisitor Darkel
While being only the second story of Series 3 of the Big Finish Gallifrey series ends the Pandora threat, it doesn't end the series. Essentially, after being desparate and somewhat in despair last episode, Romana takes the fight to Pandora after Pandora and Darkel attempt to infect Romana with a new variant of the Dogma virus from last series failed. It's good, better than the previous story, and I was entertained, but it isn't grabbing me as much as some of the others have. Still, it's an enjoyable story and I look forward to the next one.
I really loved this one. K9 as the spy. Everyone seeming to turn against everyone else. Romana and Leela finally taking down Pandora. Romana trying to sacrifice herself to save Gallifrey. Narvin doing what he can for Romana because she's president. Darkel just being totally reprehensible and failing all the time cause she's just not as good as K9. Mary Tamm did such a great job as Pandora and the lost Romana. It is lovely to go back and listen to these again.
And the war against Pandora comes to an end, with perhaps a shade more Matrix-technobabble than I'd have liked, but otherwise quite satisfyingly. I have to say that I'm really liking the interplay between Narvin and Leela this series - I hope the writers will continue to contrive reasons for them to work together.
Pandora and Romana's forces are in full blown war with each other for Gallifrey's leadership. Pandora and Darkel release a Free time virus hoping to kill Romana but it doesn't happen. What will happen next. Find out.
Great characters. Mary Tamm is wonderful as Pandora and Romana I. Loved K9's role, and the interaction between the characters. Very witty and intelligent dialogue, with twists and turns along the way.
