Gallifrey #3.1

Gallifrey: Fractures

Rate this book
'It learns. It evolves. It wants. It hungers. And now Romana has delivered herself to its very door.'

Gallifrey is a world at war with itself. The Pandora entity, clothed in the body of President Romana's first incarnation, seeks to control the populace through mind control and manipulation. The real Romana has resorted to destroying key parts of the Capitol, hoping to weaken Pandora's power base.

But when one such attack goes horribly wrong, Leela is left injured and Romana's base of operations is exposed. Hunted by their enemies, Leela must make for a medical outpost on the fringes of the fighting while Romana seeks a desperate solution in the planet's Anomaly Vaults. But what each discovers will alter their lives, and Gallifrey's future, forever.

Every year I do my annual Gallifrey relisten, it gets better and better and makes me fall in love with this wonderful series and it’s characters time and time again.

I will never forget how important the Gallifrey series is to me or the opportunities and friends I have made because of Gallifrey. Thank you Gary Russell and co for creating such a wonderful and special series.

A great audio for start of series 3 of Gallifrey. Slight spoilers in this review so you have been warned.

You see more action and violence rather than political intrigued and manipulative Time-Lord's in their natural habitat. This time, Time-Lord's have to fight but not against aliens or Daleks; against themselves.

A civil war against Romana 1 vs Romana 2.

Its always fantastic hearing the two Romana's on opposite side of the coins and Inquisitor Darkel in the mix and seeing Inquisitor Darkel work with Romana 1 but ultimately working for her own end in the game.

I always loved this audio for Leela. Particularly with the incident where she comes blind but Leela has suffered a serious traumatic explosion-causing her to become blind but she STILL somehow managed to find Narvin, rescue him and drag him out of the wreckage and THEN take him all the way back to get help despite her own sufferings-a loss sense.

Leela is one bad ass warrior.

Then there was Romana and K9. Brilliant with K9 and their friendship with robot and Time-Lord. Always great to see and there are so many great quotes in this audio.

I also loved Elbon and his sneaky ways. Despite his claims as a medical doctor, he's just as much as a con man as the other time-lord's.

And I love Annos. He and Wynter would have gotten on well.

And I love the Sneaky Prisoner Reference Elbon says. "Be seeing you."

Overall, BRILLIANT as always.

So after completing Series 2 of Gallifrey, I immediately found myself wanting to start Series 3, the cliffhanger had me on the edge of my seat and I was so intrigued what would happen next. This range truly is as exceptional as people say it is and I'm loving every minute of it!

Gallifrey has been divided and Pandora is winning. Narvin and Leela need medical attention, Leela is blind and Narvin is on the verge of possible regeneration which must be stopped otherwise he succumbs to a terrible virus. Romana is running out of options and to have a fighting chance they must escape into the wastelands.

Stephen Cole has opened this series with an exciting and explosive epic where ex-politicians are being manipulated to spout out false propaganda and the villains slowly winning. This is a very intense and hopeless story where our heroes are seen at their weakest, Pandora is tearing them apart and with Darkel's help, Gallifrey will fall into universal war. I feel this is the story where we get to see Narvin finally realizing who the good guys are and will do anything to help his madam president stop a terrible evil from taking over their world.

Overall: A fantastic series opener that ends with a next-time trailer that has me ecstatic for the next story! 9/10

What a crazy timey-whimey paradox we’ve got here. Tons of fun political intrigue and shenanigans abound, but it’s all complicated by time paradoxes (or should that be pair-of-ducks?). This series has been much better than I had initially expected.

Shout out to Louise Jameson in particular for this one. Hearing ferocious, brave Leela dissolve into tears... it hurt.

An interesting conclusion of the cliff hanger of last series. Gallifrey is in turmoil amidst the political upheaval and retaliation currently occurring; Romana and Leela work to restore order to the chaos, though the two are still at odds, sadly. I love having both Mary Tamm and Lalla Ward work together as Romana I (Imperiatrix) and Romana II; I'd have loved to see them interact somehow onscreen.

Possibly the best Big Finish story I've heard yet. Atmospheric, full of twists, epic moments, intense dialog, and superb music.

Gallifrey has been plunged into civil war. On the one side is Romana, the rightful President of Gallifrey; on the other is Pandora, the embodiment of all the evil in the Matrix, which has cohered around the personality of a former Imperiatrix of Gallifrey and obtained corporeal form by stealing the biodata of Romana's first incarnation. Pandora's allies include the devious Inquisitor Darkel, the obsequious Chancellor Valyes, and numerous Time Lords who have been forced to do her bidding by a post-regenerative mutagenic virus that has robbed them of their free will. Romana has only a handful of supporters left, including Co-ordinator Narvin and Commander Hallan; most of her guards died defending the alien students whom Romana had invited to attend the Time Lords' Academy before war broke out, and whom Pandora had ordered executed. War fleets from the rival temporal powers are in orbit around Gallifrey, ostensibly out of concern for their students' welfare, while Romana and her surviving supporters are hiding in the Maelstrom Cloisters near the Outlands.

After the previous season finale Gallifrey: Imperiatrix, Romana now fights a war against Pandora for the rule of Gallifrey. However, Romana seems to be on the back foot. With all the TARDISes disabled, Narvin injured and Leela blinded from an explosion gone wrong, Romana seeks an edge in the mysterious Anomaly Vault.

This was okay, but it wasn't outstanding. Everyone gets some good moments and the Anomaly Vault with the threat of an unkillable assassin fractured through time are interesting. But I still found this one a bit dull. It's mostly setup for the season, moving a desparate Romana from contstantly on her back foot and on the run with very little support to at least having a base of operations. It gives Leela a new dimension with permanent blindness (at least for now). It has K-9 as a spy in Pandora's camp. It's somewhat necessary and has some interesting ideas, I just found it kinda of dull.

The civil war is in full swing. And Romana II is fighting Romana I. There is a lot more violence and a lot less politics but there are still many characters and it's hard to know who is really on whose side. Bombs, hospitals, traitors, and hidden creatures in the vaults.

Civil war has broken out On Gallifrey. Romana is fighting her younger self known as Pandora. Lela is helping but gets injured in an explosion and loses her sight. Darkel helps Pandora. What happens you need to listen.
