A Run for the Mystic is the eighth book in the Shady Grove Psychic Mysteries series. This small town paranormal mystery with an amateur female sleuth will appeal to fans of Annabel Chase, Amy Boyles, and Lily Webb.
Ada Bell knew you'd be reading this. Okay, well, she knew someone would be. (Hi, Mom!) That's pretty much the extent of her psychic powers. A life-long mystery buff, Ada has devoured everything from Murder, She Wrote to Nancy Drew to Psych!, so she was pretty much destined to end up here. Ada loves Scooby Doo, superhero movies, STEM heroines, and cake. Mmm, cake.
Aly’s physic powers are once again called into action by her boyfriend Cal after a day visiting as a V.I.P. at the horse racing where his cousin Jacob is taking part in races, but the day then turns to disaster when a jockey is murdered. The unlucky jockey was last seen having an argument with Jacob beforehand and so the police suspect him. Aly investigates to try and clear Jacobs name but finds it difficult to talk to anybody with security at the track. Earlier she spotted a reporter that never usually covers sports events and wonders what he is doing there. A fun read and gives you knowledge of horse racing behind the scenes. I would recommend this book and look forward to the next one. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I'm really hoping the next book will continue to bring back the chemistry between the characters. The last couple of books were a little flat. Still holding out hope Sam gets his old memories back, and him and Aly get back together. I also really like how Aly's powers are growing and she's more comfortable with them. As for the mystery; that was fun to read. What a delightful twist. There's also the beginnings of a cold case investigation, which sounds intriguing. Can't wait to see what that has in store.
Off to the races in this great book becauseCal’s cousin is racing . Let’s take a look… His girlfriend Aly is forced to compare notes with the police when one of the riders becomes deceased. She’s an expert sleuth you see, not just any old busybody. Cal begs her to use her psychic powers to help out his favourite relative . But there’s an awful where withall and things are moving so slow. This is just the pace they know. Doesn’t help things though. Great writing as ever by Ada Bell who tells a story extremely well. Immersive and fun . My number one.
Another great book in the Shady Grove Series. I have enjoyed all of the books in this series (and the sister series, Haunted Haven), and this was no exception. All of these books have been easy to read and engaging. The last few have had some emotional roller coaster moment too. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next in the life of Aly (and Emma too!).

Another fabulous book in the Shady Grove Psychic Mystery series! I loved the race track setting, the characters, and the twists and turns that had me guessing whodunit until the very end. The author did something really clever with A Run for the Mystic - in addition to the main murder mystery, the amateur sleuth starts investigating a cold case which is going to unfold over the next several books in the series. I can't wait to find out what happens next!
