Trapped with a Navy Seal

Rate this book
I never imagined my trip overseas would trap me with a grumpy Navy SEAL.

Losing my sister made me realize life is short.

So, I head for Japan with her eight-year-old son, Alex.

A handsome older Grump sits by us on the airplane.

Alex's fidgeting appears to agitate the Grump.

But Alex's cute face finally wins him over.

Turns out, he is good company.

We land in Japan and say our goodbyes.

So we think.

Alex and I are ready to begin our new life.

Until we meet our new neighbor Derrick the grump

I don’t see much of him.

Until the winds roar and the earth starts to shake.

I panic thinking of Alex; who is at school.

Trembling, I grasp for the door.

And there he is, Derrick.

A navy SEAL and protector.

He ushers me to safety on his rooftop.

As a 30-foot tsunami heads towards us.

Trapped together, we share our deepest fears.

The isolation and darkness ignite an indescribable bond between us.

We have to rescue Alex and find a way to safety.

Or our newfound love will never get a chance to blossom.

I was looking forward to this book and am so disappointed. There was so many mistakes in it, confusing at times and more. It’s not worth it. All these other reviews sayings it’s great but not sure what they are reading. These are the main things I found.

1) this is not a military romance, the title says Navy Seal, the description makes you think he is in the military. No he got out of the military and is working in Japan

2) Going to the bathroom and stating what they are doing is so unnecessary, not once not twice, but multiple times.

3) confusing mistakes. Amber for example lives in New York, first they say they live in an apartment, a friend of Alex’s lives 2 floors down who they are going to visit. A few lines down it says “soon we’re out of thr house in front of Jason’s house”. Another storyline with Derrick, he’s flown into New York from Tennessee but he’s in a cab going to the airport, going through downtown New York. It continues on throughout the book

4) the earthquake/tsunami, well that was interesting to say the least. How does a 30 foot tsunami wave hit that fast while the earthquake is happening in they are not on the coast, then the water never receded until days later. They also had electricity afterward but just for 1 lightbulb. They finally got to the school days, at least 3 if not 4, the kids were buried but safe, yet hadn’t been found until Amber & Derrick showed up.

5) the ending - just rolling my eyes.

Really enjoyable book, could not wait to see how it unfolded. It is very creative to weave their stories, they have very individual stories yet are somewhat similar. The writing goes in great depth to understand what the two main characters went through.

TRIGGER WARNING: Tsunami and aftermath of the flooding/ destruction described.
Amber has had a hard life. After the death of her sister she becomes the guardian of her young nephew, Alex. When the opportunity to work in Japan comes up she jumps on it. On the plane they meet Derrick, who has distanced himself from everyone due to his own past. All of them are surprised when they discover that he lives next door to the house Amber and her nephew move into. When a natural disaster strikes, Alex is at school. Will Derrick's training be able to save himself and Amber? Where is Alex? How are they going to survive? Can love come out of this tragedy? Is there a way for them to find closure and healing from past hurts?
This is a page turning emotional story that will keep you glued to the end wondering what happens.

Amber has had it hard in life and with the death of her sister, she becomes the guardian of her nephew, Alex. Wanting to start fresh with him, she takes a job offered her in Japan. While on the plane, they meet Derrick a navy seal, going home to Japan. Having his own baggage, he has separated himself from being very friendly to anyone, grumpy is the word, although he has taken to Alex. When they land in Japan and find their homes, Amber finds she and Derrick are neighbors. When a natural disaster strikes while Alex is in school, will Derrick be able to save both Alex and Amber? Will they both be able to put their heal from their past hurt and baggage? Will there be a relationship developing between the two? This is a really good story that keeps you turning pages to see how things turn out. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

When tragedy strikes, will Derrick be able to save Amber and her nephew Alex?
ARC Review ✨
Derrick lives in Japan but he takes a trip and on the plane trip back he meets Amber. Amber recently lost her sister, so she gains custody of her nephew. Amber ends up traveling with her nephew Alex to Kyoto, Japan. She's an artist and has to travel there for her job. She decided that they're going to live there for a while even after she finishes her job. A tsunami strikes and Derrick has to save himself as well as Amber and Alex.
I really enjoyed this enemies to lovers story! This was my second book written by Skylar White and I enjoyed it just as much as the first one! She has such a beautiful way of writing and a talent for being able to suck the reader right in from the get go!

3.75 - 4 stars.

I enjoyed learning about a new culture and way of life, seeing the way they became part of each others lives and how they handled the ups and downs. There were a few parts where I wanted a little bit more explanation or depth and I would have liked to have seen them a little later down the line, but the story held my interest and wondering how things would work out.

Natural Disaster Protector

When tragedy strikes, Amber is now responsible for her nephew so when a job opportunity in Japan presents itself, she decides to jump on it. This sets the tone for the plot and her continuous run in with Derrick who has his own past that needs healing. It takes a natural disaster to bring them together not only to heal but become a family they all need.

Warms up

So this book took me multiple chapters to get into it. I almost gave up on it but glad I didn't. You have a grumpy Navy Seal and a sweet artist who end up meeting each other and you can't help but hope something will happen. Over half way through the book something big happens that made my heart race and I couldn't put it down till I finished. It definitely has a great ending.

Twist of fate has them meeting an ex Navy Seal (Derrick) on the plane and even more living in the same building as him in Japan.

Sweet, clean, easy to read romance. Had a great time reading this!

Wow what an incredible story the life of amber is, her sad upbringing, taking her dream to Japan and Meeting a grump that may not be such a grump after all. They are 2 people who have had a hard life , Through hardship you can find love. I highly recommended it. Thanks to the author for providing me with my review copy.

Love the Japanese setting

But the romance between the main 2 characters needs a lot of work. They need some romantic moments, a kiss, some sparks, then a romantic proposal. I also think that maybe the proposal should have happened in Japan, before he asked her to go back to the U.S. and give up her dream life in Japan?? Or maybe just visit his/their families in the U.S.?

Derrick, an ex-Navy Seal, has been living there for several years and has a solitary life.
Amber, who lost her sister a few years ago and is now the guardian of her nephew Alex, takes advantage of a job offer to start a new life in Japan with Alex.
As fate would have it, Derrick and Amber meet, and it's on the plane to Japan that their story begins...

It's a fast-paced story. I would have liked a little more interaction between our MCs before everything came together. I found the ending a bit rushed, with so much happening all at once.

It's an enjoyable book, with an original story but the story is too rushed.

Not impressed.

This story had a lot of potential but was disappointing instead. The story telling was clipped and a bit redundant in places. The characters seemed lackluster with no personality or depth. Would not recommend the book.

Amber is the guardian of her nephew Alex after her sister dies . Deciding life’s too short , her and the eight year old set off on an adventure to Japan where she’s found a good job. They encounter an old grump on the plane but the adorable Alex wins him around and they wave each other off as they alight the plane … Little did Derrick an ex Seal realise that he would soon be close quarters to Amber and protector to keep her from danger , exposing vulnerabilities to each other as close proximity traps them together on the roof of his home while averting a thirty foot tsunami…. Both have scars on the inside and just maybe the medicine they need is each other to heal ..now if they can work together and Derrick uses all his training to strategise a plan to find Alex then they’re on a new assignment, a daring mission to save him (and them ) to give love a chance , from disaster to an happy ever after…Very good rollercoaster journey of emotions and well written with empathy too.
